Treadling my Bernina KL-117 through 2, 4 and 8 layers of Denim. No big deal for her, could also have been 10 or 12 layers. Sewing 8 layers of Denim doesn't even require a special needle: there is a standard size NM80/12 needle used.
The friction drive of the electric motor is disabled by the white cord, leather rim for treadling is set up. The first few Years I had this machine, I used her almost every time electric. But since a Year or two, I more and more prefer to sew my things with muscle power.
In Zig-zag the transition from 4 to 8 layers has a bit uneven stitch length on the under side, and the thread tension in 8 layers zig-zag is a bit too strong in general, but (this is standard thread tension) I'm content how she sews.
This beautiful old Lady will turn 74 this Year and as it is to see (and hear) she is far away from the end of her lifetime. So useful, so reliable, so smooth.
The question is not how long this machines live, the question is how long we can accompany them through their life.
I hope, we'll have some decades in front of us.
