I really feel this is Bach's supreme work. It is so wonderful that Dr Croft and JSB had "a good idea" for a tune! Years ago I went into Salisbury Cathedral to arrange the funeral of a distant relative. The organist was playing this softly. I claim no real musical skills but it still fascinates me how the theme twists and turns. The ending gets very dark and then suddenly rushes up to the light in the pedal.

Have just come out of church with this ringing in my ears on the day after my mother Ann’s passing. Very much appreciate an articulation that takes its time and is not in a rush to catch the bus. The lovely dog is a bonus. Thank you.

I came to this while reading ‘So This is Music’ an old book which suggests listening to St.Anne’s Fugue to understand horizontal music. Love your playing and it’s lovely to see Murph 🐾🐾🎶🎶

Very nice playing - tempi, articulation, registrations, etc. Like how you bring on the 32' Pedal Reed at the conclusion (I ALWAYS do, as well!) 👍👌👏 Thank you.

I like your tempos. Some artists play it so fast that it is just a blur.

There's a video game song that (I think) was inspired by this fugue. It's called the SS Anne theme from Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow

The first thing that came to my mind was “O God, Our Help in Ages Past” by Issac Watts

Well spotted! It's called the St Anne Fugue because it's based on the hymn tune of the same name, which is most frequently sung to the words 'O God, our help...'. The original melody was by William Croft, who was organist at a church dedicated to St Anne.
