Seeing a real live giant squid blew my mind!
@ParaRob9 ай бұрын
It was a video on a screen, but it'd definitely be amazing to see one in person. I don't think the tanks at the STL aquarium are big enough to hold one of those big guys. Their size is tough to comprehend even after seeing a real one. They're pretty rare and they have a very short life span. Life expectancy is 5 years. They must grow incredibly fast! The biggest one ever caught was 43 feet long and over 1,000 pounds! I can understand why they were considered ocean monsters by sailors hundreds of years ago. Pretty cool stuff!!
@vargasfamily2829 ай бұрын
@@ParaRob I was wondering how they could house a giant squid in their aquarium. I didn’t know their life span is so short.
@ParaRob9 ай бұрын
@@vargasfamily282 That screen did look very realistic tho. I was surprised as well when I learned how short their lifespans were. I think that even if they had a big enough tank, they wouldn't be able to simulate the pressure of the deep ocean that giant squids live in. As rare as they are to see, it's even more rare to see them alive. If they are caught or seen in open water, they either die from being brought up or are dying so they float to the top. Most of the time, however, they sink and become food for the scavengers who patrol the ocean floor. I have no idea why I remember so many random giant squid facts. Lol!! But I looked up what the largest one was and confirmed their lifespan because I wasn't sure if I remembered that correctly. I retain the most random information and spit it out years after learning it without talking about it in-between. Haha!! My sister gets so annoyed (and amazed) on long road trips when I just come up with that stuff out of nowhere. Have a great day!

There is a new Aquarium being built near me in Utica, Michigan call the LegaSea Aquarium that you must go to when it opens ! A big reptile KZbinr who has millions of subscribers owned it but he passed away a few months ago before it was finished. This is a huge deal in my town and you can watch the progress on the channel and then see the finished progress. They currently operate a reptarium across the street as well. So many more details go into this but that’s just a basic background on this aquarium! Please go to it when it opens in a few months !!!!

I wish he could have seen it completed and been there for the grand opening, but he is definitely watching down from above and he will live on through LegaSea Aquarium forever! I'd love to visit it and his reptarium some day. He was always so positive and so kind. He made so many people smile and will continue to make people smile for many years to come. Thanks for sharing about LegaSea! I hope they have continued success! It is most certainly deserved.

32:37 Next closet would be how Spain hosted both Expo '92 and the Summer Olympics in 1992, but in different cities. Spain decided to build the Madrid-Seville High Speed line because that was where the World's Fair was while Barcelona held the Olympics. I think Seville's airport is a lot smaller for being the capital of its region without transatlantic connections, so they assumed most people would fly to Madrid and maybe spend a day or two there to get over Jetlag before going to Atocha to reach Seville while Barcelona is a fairly major airport and Barcelona-Seville is a short flight anyway-like that route by high speed rail today is like the edge of high speed being competitive to flying

I think Mystic Aquarium is very nice, and there's also the Old Mystic Village and the Mystic Seaport. I highly recommend them all, especially since I volunteered at Mystic Seaport for a few summers about a decade ago now. Additionally, if you're still in a train mood, Essex Steam Train & Riverboat is a nice stop in Connecticut as well. And if you _do_ head up to Mystic Seaport, watch out for the Charles W. Morgan. Old whaling ship, and she still smells like it, ha ha
