St Luey....my hometown. I remember seeing all those river barges going up and down the river...Peabody coal trains crossing the railroad river bridges....and of course the snow and ice. Brrrrr - gets pretty cold there.....but I now live in Georgia.

Thanks for posting, Captain. I was born in Cape Girardeau and my grandmother told me she had crossed the river with mules and a wagon when she was a child around 1900. I never saw it freeze that hard in the 50's or 60's.

Seeing those deckhands out there breaking up and making up tow reminds me of working one winter on deck. So you want to work on the river, come on out it is all gravy but some of it gets lumpy.

Amazing video and time lapse. I wonder just how far south this ice is getting to?
@marktwained7 жыл бұрын
Last week it was gorging up just a few miles upriver from Cairo. There were boats getting hung up and not able to shove through. Worst I’ve ever seen that far down.

I always wondered about the waiting that riverboats have to do. Like at the beginning of this one where it looked like he had to wait at least over one night before it was his turn at the lock. I'm guessing that those tugs have sleeping quarters and kitchens to pass the time. If you ran out of food or booze in transit, does the newest, greenest guy have to ride a dingy to shore to get more?
@DonaldKing237 жыл бұрын
That is amazing.

I've noticed on some shoreline barge moorings, typically two large chains are used. Are the chains permanently linked to one barge, to which all others attach? New Sub
@marktwained7 жыл бұрын
Yes, generally it is. It is a “spar” barge or anchor barge. They are normally older barges retired from service, and used for tying off.

Don't worry about that coyote unless he's carrying a box of ACME Explosives.

i guess it's pretty randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released movies online?

Ya know, if y'all would leave our ice alone, the rivers are some of the best high speed snowmobile riding around. Honestly, I don't know if I'd trust a big river like the Mississippi but smaller ones like the Cedar and Iowa Rivers in Iowa are awesome for a long high speed run.

It can be hard on equipment. We did not have any damage from this trip.

You can use the word "ICE" all you want. All that we ask is that you don't let it come out as "Ice Ice Baby..." Please. As for this video, you've assembled an ice composition... whoops, I meant a nice composition here with a good balance of video and still shots. Very icely done.

Wait till the big thaw comes...it's all gonna head south. Hope the flooding won't be too bad.
@marktwained7 жыл бұрын
I would prefer running on flood river as any, on the Lower Mississippi. I can make much better time north and south. When it gets high we can cut of river miles by running slack water outside of channel.
