Can’t believe a bunch of schoolchildren beat John Lennon to the Christmas #1 that year. Quite iconic this song!

They also beat Stop the Calvary, also. When British music *was* at zenith. Also, how things like "TOTP" were so influential (another begone of British media culture/society), when everyone turned to BBC1 to hear the top songs as there was then *no* other alternative! No wonder the music industry since the internet age has collapsed. I know it is progress, but I would *still* kill go back to that age. Same way with going to old-fashioned high street cinemas *that* at the time still had so much more character and atmosphere (before a lot were killed off in around 1998-2001), along with Hollywood *still* pumping out new ideas for films. Not to mention BBC/ITV producing *many* top and memorable TV classics (Fawlty Towers, The Sweeney, Dad's Army etc).

In America We embraced the late John Lennon it topped the Billboard, Cash Box, Radio & Records and Record World charts with "(Just Like) Starting Over. We also had our Yacht Rock and Urban Cowboy Country music to fall back on. Those little brats tried to infect North America as well. It almost got a release in both in the US and Canada on Capitol Records but was nixed in favor A Taste of Honey's "Sukiyaki" released in the spring of 1981. Bette Midler's "The Rose" Johnny Lee 's "Lookin' For Love" Anne Murray's "Could I Have This Dance" George Benson's "Give Me The Night" Robbie Dupree's "Hot Rod Hearts" and "Steal Away" Dan Fogelberg's "Longer" Ambrosia "Biggest Part Of Me" Eddie Rabbitt's "Drivin' My Life Away" Manhattan Transfer's "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone" Pure Prairie League's "Let Me Love You Tonight" Jefferson Starship's "Jane" Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" Gino Vannelli's "Living Inside Myself" Joyce Cobb's "Dig The Gold" ZZ Top's "Cheap Sunglasses" .38 Special's "Hold On Loosely" and "Rockin' Into The Night" Delbert McClinton's "Giving It Up For Your Love" The Pointer Sister's "He So Shy" J. Geils Band "Love Stinks" John "Cougar" Mellencamp's "Ain't Even Done With The Night" Dionne Warwick's "Deja Vu" Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker", "Treat Me Right" and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" 38 Special's "Rockin' Into The Night" The Brothers Johnson's "Stomp" Benny Mardones' "Into The Night" J. Geils Band's "Love Stinks" Donnie Iris' "Ah! Leah!" Ambrosia's "Biggest Part Of Me" Christopher Cross' "Sailing" and "Ride Like The Wind" Carly Simon's "Jesse" Devo's "Whip It" Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright" and "This Is It" Kenny Rogers' "Lady"

They would've got the Xmas No.1 spot anyway, even if John wasn't assassinated.

Capitol Records was about to release this trash during the summer of 1981 instead they chose Juice Newton's "Queen Of Hearts."

I couldn't bare watching this. John Lennon should have got a posthumous No1. Instead, this crappy song goes to No1.
