Purchased a house with IG pool last summer, and have this same heater (but hooked up to propane tanks). Pool inspector said it was shot and needed replacement ($2000+!!!). I googled and replaced thermistor, and thing started right up! Thanks for this video...we just closed the pool but I am planning on giving the heater a thorough cleaning and this video is helpful!

Though lengthy, I found this video incredibly helpful. I replaced the manifold as well as the thermal regulator in 1 hour.

Super helpful video, thanks!! My heater has been occupied by mice. They chewed through hoses and wires. Your video provided me information to take it all apart and clean the whole thing. This is life savings. Really appreciate it!

A commercial spa. I had to take the tank lid off today. Anh it’s call a (stay)rite not a (star)rite. Jk. The stack flue temperature reach 480 degrees causing the heater to shut down after a minute. Mine had 10 nuts on top of the tank. It’s not fun to take the tank lid off but there was so much scum on the heat exchange. A lot of wire brushing today. Funny I come home and see your video. Nice to see another Vietnamese know how to diy. Great more Asian taking away our poolman’s business. Lol

That was an easy fix for the manifold. I can't believe Leslie Pool Supply wanted 900.00 bucks to replace the manifold.

Awesome informational video! What lubricant did you use on the manifold bolts? And what was the tube of sealant you used on the ignition switch and combustion chamber gasket?

do you think it was just as simple as that thermal reg? mine is making a noice like you mentioned but your old manifold looks overall healthy

Had lots of problems with that model first year thermal sensor in exhaust went, next year main display board went. When i called up Pentair the basically told me 30 day warranty if you bought on line. this is the second one the customer has had last one only lasted 4 years
@philindeblanc2 жыл бұрын
Wow really? I know someone who has this for 3 year no issues. But ?? I was considering this vs a raypak. I actually didnt know it was Pentair, which I would stay away from.

Lot of extra work when you just needed to replace the thermal regulator.

I am planning on getting this particular model (Propane) and I'm glad to see a complete tear down. So my observation tells me that the only problem you had was the igniter. I still have a few questions here perhaps some one knows if this can be installed indoor as my pool system is in a shed. I see that has some exhaust perhaps it can be extended to outside. I appreciate the video a lot even if it is long but the tear down really shows a lot of the components. I'm looking to find more answers and will soon purchase this.

pentair website has current (August 2020) version of the installation manual on their website. It has everything you need to know about installing indoors and out. You need to extend exhaust it to the outdoors, and they very strongly recommend that your intake air comes from the outdoors as well, although not near your exhaust. Older versions of installation manual are on manualslib.com: 2001, 2008, & 2014. I particularly like wiring diagram in the 2001 manual for troubleshooting. After they added the interchangeable molex plugs to allow for 220 operation, the updated wiring diagram can no longer be followed.

A little more testing with an electrical tester would’ve told him the igniter was bad instead of tearing the whole thing apart saving lots of time, the lube was for the O-rings not for the bolt threads

I am about to open my pool . I can't tell the lights yet but I know what it's been doing the last two season. It starts and runs the first time I turn it on. Once it got the pool to temp and kicks off it tries to fire again but just buzzes alot. I let it sit for a few hrs and it will run again. Any Ideas so I can get parts ordered?
@officerkrupke49662 жыл бұрын
Remove outer cover to expose inside workings and locate where buzzing is coming from. I suspect it is the gas valve.

Blower will not start unless pressure switch and high limit switch are both closed . Test with ohm meter with pool pump running and switch connections removed. Both switchs are located on manifold.

What would u say is the average cost to heat up your pool every time u use the Sta-rite? I recently inherited one and am gathering info! Thanks

Natural Gas Pool Heaters You can figure about 1 therm per hour per 100,000 BTU’s for Natural Gas. For a typical 400,000 BTU pool heater, that’s 4 therms per hour. Currently Natural Gas runs about $1.00 per therm, natural gas prices do fluctuate so keep an eye on this site showing the Cost of Natural Gas Per State. In our example, 1 hour on Natural Gas will cost $4.00.

They definitely do fail. His ignitor was fine. He described short cycling. Which is when the heater continually shuts down and reignites once at certain temp (below the set point). This guy needed a thermal regulator, a very common failure. That would have cost less than $20 and about 10 min to replace. Calling a pro would have totalled less than $100 and he spent over $1000. Way to stick it to the .
