Lena is like the favorite aunt. "Oh, it's Auntie Lena...YAY!" Zulu is pretty quick and agile, Lena kinda lopes along...and...boys will be boys. I wonder did Mr. Wilde & Luke get their race on as they usually do? Lena has those great big draft horse feet, and Zulu has the dainty race horse feet.😂 Fascinating dynamics here.

Once you start properly observing their behaviour it is very interesting indeed. My parents taught us kids to always note which cows or horses were behaving in a certain manner and to find out why. I’ve become quite hooked on it now with your herd Graeme, it’s fun. Zulu has her very own style of walking, just like a model on the catwalk with those long slim legs. She’s a find looking mare. 😊

@@profanetruth17 I am pretty sure things happen on a backstretch that’s deplorable but one cannot generalize and smear all racing people doing such horrible things. Our barn is a hobby barn and is ethical. We don’t crook and we don’t abuse our horses. Racing is a hard sport and where there is money involved things happen unfortunately. That goes for every equine sport on this planet but it seems so easy to just slander people in the racing industry. Any vet will tell you that people will ask for things to make their horses jump higher or stop faster. Whatever…..It is nuts what some will do to horses for money. But once again Zulu had no such experience.

Wow! I loved this video so much! I think I was smiling through the whole of it. So much interesting goings on. I love how Lena is so chill, even running around she keeps her composure and when she stops she goes all statuesque, striking a pose 🙂 I wonder if Lena's avoidance, if I can call it that, of being friendlier to a few new arrivals has anything to do with her being intelligent and aware of the difference between the permanent herd and temporary visitors? Do horses think about that sort of thing, I wonder? So many things to like about this video Graeme. It was fascinating to watch you assert your control in such a patient and persistent way, until Zulu accepted it. I loved how Luke was standing and watching Zulu and Lena circle around, he has such awareness in his expression! Thank you for an awesome video! ❤❤❤❤

Zulu so effortlessly moves Lena and Luke around! A very powerful horse. I am looking forward how she'll be in a few weeks or maybe even a few days time when it's not all new and she has found out that being more approachable and a bit more mellow gives her more access to what she wants as well. I liked how she kept her purpose and she kept thinking about what was going on and how she wanted to influence that. (Those traits may make things more difficult, but I still admire her for it.)

Yes, she can move others, that's for sure. The question might be for you then, why did the others not bother fighting much? How many horses have my horses seen come through and the start is always kind of the same but the end is always different.
@StableHorseTraining2 жыл бұрын
Michelle, the idea I would give to you is to take control of the one that is trying to do the controlling. Have that horse look at you when you enter the area, if you request it, they should stay by your side and never leave it. Similar to what Zulu is doing actually, but just do it with a higher knowledge to produce a friend instead of a minion.
@laurabongard26822 жыл бұрын
I think perhaps Zooloo was upset with Luke for interrupting her attempt to become friends with Lina. She obviously wants to be friends with Lina. With regard to Luke, she'll make friends with him later. In the meantime, he is in the way. If you notice when Luke is far enough away from Lina, she begins her friendship overtures again and she is just engaging in all the classic things a horse does to make a friend. (I think. I'm just guessing and going with my feelings.) I love the way you went about telling Zooloo you are the head horse. She has had to recognize a head horse before, but now she knows you're one too. I know you know you did a good job with that. Roni is positively gorgeous now. You definitely notice him in a crowd. You've got some pretty large horses in the arena together. Lina looks leaner, but it's looking great on her. She is beautiful as always.

I can't wait to see who is coming at the end of the week😀 That was interesting. You comment things we might not see or interpret differently. Funny that as soon as Luke got in, the girls started acting because they both ignored each other in the first place. Zulu makes sounds of happiness when rolling! How do your horses behave towards strangers? For example, if a totally unknown person stands completely still in the arena with no treats, nothing, would the herd come round to sniff him/her or would they stay away, I wonder?

Very interesting Graeme. You explain well what we see. Zulu is used to a heard dynamic. I have only seen her on top in the herd dynamics. I find it interesting that she chose Lena. There must be a reason. She chose I guess the stronger horse …. Is that because of size or demeanour? I see some of the same things Benny does. He herds …. And claim. She spent over a year with him so maybe she learned from him. But thank you for this. When you explain it is easier to see what’s actually happening.

I saw the very first video of Zulu by herself. She was going everywhere sniffing the ground with great interest. My impression was that she was getting 'data' about every resident horse. I'm not surprised to see her 'take charge' way among other horses. I feel that may be the only thing she's interested in. Just an impression. I personally like to see friendships, but I like your assurance that Zulu isn't combative. It's all fascinating!!
