Googled - The word curry has been around for 800 years or so and means “to rub down or groom a horse.” It comes from the French word correier,which means to put order to, prepare or arrange. This makes perfect sense as to why it's called the curry comb because we are rearranging the horse's hair into a more ideal direction.

Keep the hair for the birds🕊️ the nesting season is coming.. Joka doesn't care she keeps eating! But she loves the scratching with the brush! In Iceland, they have a very thick coat in the long winter... You have a lot of traffic today.
@StableHorseTraining Жыл бұрын
Yes, usually I apply a filter that blocks out the noise of the traffic, but when I did that it also removed the sound of the brushing and it just felt weird.. So in this one you get both. It also was a time of the day that traffic was a bit busy from school pickup etc.
@martineinfrance Жыл бұрын
@@StableHorseTraining thank you for revealing your secret! because for quite a while I thought you had less traffic than a couple of years ago! That's great for us but still bad for you in real life. Here is the same. Traffic has drastically increased unfortunately covering the birds' gossips at certain times of the day! Anyway, thank you because hearing the noise of the brush is great!

There's an amazing deshedding tool called the Equigroomer! It wss originally made for horses but can be used on dogs and cats also. It gets rid of undercoat without irritating skin or pulling coat. All animals I've seen being groomed with it have thoroughly enjoyed it! Maybe something to check out? :D

ah yes, the heavily overpriced and glorified piece of wood with a hacksaw blade embedded in it. Got it as a gift from somebody that loved it, used it once, never again.
@snickerdoodle9267 Жыл бұрын
@@StableHorseTraining Hahah alright! It was pretty cheap where I got it, and worked well. Glad to know you got it for free since it seems you really didn’t like it. May I ask why? Did the horses seem to not enjoy it (i remember you saying some deshedding tools can be a little uncomfortable for horses at first) or did it simply not work as well as you wanted it to? ^^

The sharper the tines with more serrations and "hooks" the more it pulls hair out. You can see it in the video on their website too. It doesn't matter to me, I don't care and am not personally invested either way, it's just not something I want to use on my horses.

Every year, I find myself wondering where in the devil they were hiding all this hair! My horse is not nearly as shaggy as Yoka, but he always sheds off a huge amount of hair in the Spring. And I don't know if eating hair is harmful, but I always try to avoid this sort of brushing in the area where the horse is eating from the hay pile. Seems like the hair could cause some digestive problems. I am just going with my 'feelings' on that one, so ignore it if you disagree.
@StableHorseTraining Жыл бұрын
I'm not going to "disagree" but I can say without a doubt that I've never seen any problems with horses that cogroom or groom themselves and I have also never heard of it being an issue. They don't get hairballs like cats and their intestines are huge and pass a lot of material. So, while it's probably a bit better in some way to make sure it doesn't fall in their food (I don't think it did here), it shouldn't make much of a difference.
