When Did Peru Turn Into Namibia?!

For a long time, surf media has been referring to Peru as the Land of the Lefts*.
Then came Namibia.
Upon its international arrival, Skeleton Bay commanded the focus of every computer and phone across the surfosphere. All remaining luster for left-hand points was immediately pointed in Africa's direction, igniting what I’d like to think was a decade of fiery resentment within the once-revered surf nation of Peru. With COVID-19 creating incredible barriers to entry and the world at a general loss for viral African Go-Pro clips, now was the perfect time to strike.
The sand lay steady, the swell aligned, and in the past month, Peru has taken back some of the love lost to its peppy African step-sister. See above for evidence.

Happy to have experienced this wave, but on a day that looked a lot different than this 😅. The incredible thing is that there's at least 12 more waves within 1 hour of this that are also amazing. Some on surfline, some not 😉. Peru's an absolute meca of left's!

Can you tell me when Skeleton Bay blew up that much? I was for a couple of month in Namibia in 2014/15, several weeks at the coast at different seasons but I didn't notice any surfing scene at all. I wasn't into surfing that time, but I would have noticed for sure. Now that I am a bit into surfing, YT algorithm is showing me all these top class surfers going to Namibia during big swells but it seems to me that this is not going on for so long yet.

Lobitos, i never scored that wave but i surfed another one called "the pool" or something like that... lobitos main break was starting to get good when i left, it looked like it would have been sick when the sand was lined up.... a great place to stay.
