I first heard this song when I was a teenager. Now, at 54, I still love this song! The melody, the lyrics, the singers and of course the philanthropic spirit it conveys... Absolutely lovely and timeless. This was a benefit single for victims of famine in Africa. It raised over $60 Million, which was distributed to Ethiopia, Sudan, and other impoverished countries. Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song, and Quincy Jones produced it. This talented trio was perfect for the job: Quincy Jones was the hottest producer around, and his Rolodex (what would now be a contact list) was filled with the biggest names in music. This all-star charity single was modeled on Band Aid, the British group Bob Geldof put together the year before to record "Do They Know It's Christmas?." Band Aid, which included Bono, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, and Sting, served as a template, showing how a disparate group of famous artists could come together in one day to record a song. This was recorded at A&M Studios in Los Angeles on January 28, 1985, the night of the American Music Awards, which was held at the nearby Shrine Auditorium. Since the artists were all in town for the awards, it was much easier to get them together to record the single.

There are a few things I want to inform you about StaceyRPG (nice last name. lol) . . . 1 - In 1985, Canadian artists also came together for a benefit song . . . Their name was NORTHERN LIGHTS (how fitting) and they performed the song 'Tears are Not Enough' . . . 2 - As to Bruce Springsteen, aka "THE BOSS" . . . I will boldly make this statement . . . I attended the Born to Run concert at the Montreal Forum in 1985 . . . and I was left overwhelmed, in awe and motivated. He performed over 3.5 hours and I was completely exhausted after that concert . . . BUT . . . that concert also changed my life . . . . It was the BOSS that showed me what hard work and dedication can do to achieve your goals in life. The BOSS made me a business man, made me own 4 companies and taught me to live my life for others . . . 3 - YES, times have changed . . . there are no morals and values left in people. Today it's all about me, me, me and MY MONEY!! Men have become women and women are classless. Everyone is greedy and yet they are just slowly and methodically bowing to that greed and the corruption it brings . . . . 5 - . . . . There are many artists in this reaction that you can react to that will help your channel grow by leaps and bounds . . . 6 - and lastly . . . Happy Holidays to You and Yours and I wish you growing success in 2025. Remember I love you in a RnR kind of way . . .LOL

I remember when every single radio station played this song at the same exact time in 1985. I was 11. I kept changing the station because I knew I'd probably never experience something like that again. Please watch the documentary about the making of this song. It's so amazing. Like you said, it was a magical moment in time that may never be replicated. New subscriber, by the way. Loving the content so far! ♡

3:47. Who is he? That is The Boss. Bruce Springsteen. Kinda blows my mind that people do not instantly recognize all the people in this video, they were absolute TITANS in the industry. But its 100% understandable when i remember that most reactors did not grow up in the 70s and 80s like i did, lol

I was waiting for this reaction, and to be honest I was shocked when you said, "Who is this man?" for Bruce Springsteen xD America showed us who they are when it comes to music, this is indeed a legendary song by all means! Also, I'm happy because pop/rock singers from my country back in the time of ex-Yugoslavia created a song based on the USA version, as some kind of support, the song is called "Yu Rock Mission - A Million Years", different lyrics but the whole concept is very similar. Anyway... I love your videos, peace! ❤

66 Year old BabyBoomer here. We had the best music, shared experience and the time of our lives. People today do not know talent, they are soul less, Godless creatures. We did something you young people will never do. We lived life. Take your face out of your phone and look around you. As for music, kids today for the most part are clueless as to what music is.

Kay grandma, that's a big stretch. I will freely acquiesce the music aspect. However your generation put us into gas shortages, recessions and a drug epidemic, not to mention global warming. Your generation is no better than ones before or after. Your generation is also the reason we drink and have no way to afford a house.

Greetings from Finland. You are so right that these times we live now could use that Unity that there was in the 80's when these songs were made. I recommend from the bottom of my heart to watch from Netflix if you can the document called "The Greatest Night in Pop". It is awesome and story behind the video and song is amazing and it has all the answers for your questions and I quarantee that you won't regret it. I've loved this song and other songs that were made for this cause "Do they know it's Christmas" from Band Aid, "We are Stars" from Hear 'n' Aid (80's Metal musicians project) and of course the Live Aid concert back in 1985 and I never knew the story behind this USA for Africa until I saw the document and how they actually did it. The story was so amazing that I had my eyes in tears when the document ended ❤ (I love the saying "That you are never too old to learn something new" and I've experienced many times 🙂 )

Wikipedia: ''USA for Africa was created based on an idea by Harry Belafonte to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia by putting together a band with mainly black artists. The idea was developed by producer Ken Kragen following the example of Band Aid, a band consisting mainly of British and Irish artists who also raised money for the famine at the end of 1984 with "Do They Know It's Christmas?". Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the song "We Are the World" for USA for Africa, which was produced by Quincy Jones. The song was recorded on January 28, 1985 and released as a single on March 7. This single reached number 1 worldwide and is one of the best-selling charity singles ever.''

Watching these artists come together in the middle of the night after an award show to record this is unbelievable!! Look up Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats who put all this together really brought the planet together!! Noble Peace Prize should have been his for what he contributed to this world!! Much love to you and your family these holidays and keep up the great vids!!! ❤❤❤❤

"We Are the World" is a charity single recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. With sales in excess of 20 million physical copies, it is the eighth-best-selling single of all time, meant to raise money for the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia. Soon after the British group Band Aid released "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984, musician and activist Harry Belafonte decided to create an American benefit single for African famine relief. With fundraiser Ken Kragen, he enlisted several musicians. Jackson and Richie completed the writing the night before the first recording session, on January 21, 1985. The event brought together some of the era's best-known recording artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, and Tina Turner. Some major artists, such as Prince, did not participate. "We Are the World" was released on March 7, 1985, as the first single from the album by Columbia Records. It topped music charts throughout the world and became the fastest-selling U.S. pop single in history. "We Are the World" was certified quadruple platinum, becoming the first single to be certified multi-platinum. Its awards include four Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award. "We Are the World" was promoted with a music video, a VHS, a special edition magazine, a simulcast, and several books, posters, and shirts. The promotion and merchandise helped "We Are the World" raise more than $80 million (equivalent to $222 million in 2023)[1] for humanitarian aid in Africa and the United States.[2] Another cast of singers recorded a new version, "We Are the World 25 for Haiti", to raise relief following the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
