Bro how are people acting like Punk wouldn't be able to act crazy in WWE, when that's how he left WWE the first time? I feel like people are forgetting when Punk left WWE, he'd been unhappy for months... if not years. He despised that company. He had so many backstage feuds... including with HHH. He then got fired on his Wedding Day, then got in a lawsuit with the WWE doctors for saying WWE was an unsafe company to work for on a podcast with his bff (who he now hates as well). People acting like the AEW thing was so sudden... he's got more beef than an Otis/Bronson match, and half of them are still working there.

The Stunner isn't a move that makes as much sense in real life, but the idea of jacking someone's back and trying to give them whiplash (in real life, the person wouldn't land on their knees, they'd theoretically land neck first, with their legs off the ground, an impact that would be far more devastating). I've heard people dying when they feel off a stool changing a light. They landed neck first and died on the spot. On Rey, I think he helped expose a larger audience to the Lucha style and while others did that first, his 30+ years of doing it cements him as the best. Look at other wrestlers he's come up with. He looks like he's in his early 40s, remains a focal point for the WWE midcard, and stands as a testament for how timeless top wrestling stars can be. Compare him to Jericho or where the ECW guys are. He looks great, moves well, and will remain relevant as long as he wants to be.

I don't know if Shelton Benjamin should have been World Champion. Outside a couple exceptions (or experiments like in Jinder's case), you need to be able to stand in the ring and talk to the audience to further storylines and carry programs. He never really did that. I do feel he still could have been higher on the card. Get a world title match here and there to better see if people would accept him as the top guy and WWE never really gave him that chance to potentially prove people with my opinion on him wrong.

For the Rey comment, the two people that you can thank for the smaller guys being brought to the US (starting with Rey and Psychosis) is Konnan and Heymen. Rey also was part of a good 6 year span of "smaller guy wrestling". With guys like, Kidman, Juvitued Guerrera, Eddie, Chavo, Jericho, Malenko, Saturn, Benoit, 3 Count and Syxx(X Pac), Owen Hart and Brian Pillman. Before that Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, Piper, Rick Martel, Rick Rude, Million Dollar Man and HBK were considered the "smaller guys".

As a cutter style move, the Stunner stylistically fit Austin really well, and I don't think it sucks, but other cutters have better utility (RKO) or more impressive visuals (Cody Cutter). I'd definitely say it's second to the RKO but definitely doesn't suck as a finisher because it's rare to see any cutter not used a finisher tbh.
@ThisIsMarkJones Жыл бұрын
I sort of get the point with the Stunner ... honestly I preferred the way Austin used to do it before his neck injury in '97, particularly before he introduced the gut kick ... he used to make it look so good back in '96 when he first debuted the move.

I love the Angelo Dawkins take. I agree with every word there. The first time I think I watched Dawkins wrestle a singles match was at a ppv I dont recall which one now. They were broadcasting from 2 locations. And if I recall correctly, the singles match Dawkins performed in was at a concert. They had a ring set up on stage. I thought it was a filler match. But good god Dawkins put up a clinic. I dont even recall who he was wrestling against but it was impossible to forget Dawkins. Its unbelievable the way he moves. His agility, athleticisim, how light on his feet he his and just the sheer raw power he has. I remember a segment on Raw where they had him tackle peak monster Strowman to the ground while Strowman was doing his train thing outside the ring. But yeah, ever since these I took notice of him more and more and I do believe he is better in ring than Ford, who himself is ridiculously good. But in the end, Ford is the more likely to get a push and I completely understand that as well. Only thing that differentiates them two is that Ford's character seems to have that 'IT' factor. Whatever that is. Im sorry, I cant quantify it or place it into words. But yeah, that's a great take sir.

Rey being a small wrestler was a blessing and a curse. He did a lot of smaller wrestlers and high flyers in wrestling in general. But he never fit the image that WWE had for their champions. I’m a massive Rey fan and I loved seeing him wrestle, but you knew watching him in the ring, Rey could lose at any moment if his opponent stood up and caught him. That feeling, I felt, followed him over a lot of places which would work sometimes like when Rey beat Big Show and Kane. But then you have Cena vs Rey for Heavyweight title, which is one of the worst decisions WWE could’ve made surrounding the title. He was best with other cruiserweights or technicians and was phenomenal with those who could fly and wrestle e.g. The Guerreros. But against the real big guys, it just didn’t work out the way it worked for Cena, HHH, Rock, Austin and the other greatest wrestlers in WWE history.

Not sure if this is the place for hot takes but.... Hot take: Pamela Martinez (Bayley) will be considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time whenever she chooses to retire. With the exception of a couple injuries, she's been on weekly main brand television for over seven years without any breaks. Most of the women in WWE have had their best matches against her. Brooklyn in 2015 has gone down in history as the pivotal moment of the women's wrestling movement that we're still experiencing today. She's a five tool ring general, and a backstage leader that has been integral in WWE storytelling over her entire career. She's played a large part in inspiring a generation of young women to lace up their boots including Roxanne Perez, Indi Hartwell, and Cora Jade; who all mentioned her by name. In my humble opinion, she's the greatest of all time. No one has ever changed the game more than she has.

These hot takes videos are great but they only show me that people don’t fully grasp the TV show aspect of wrestling. Someone may be the best ever in the ring, but they have to have a character and they have to be able to be flexible with what stories they can tell. Wrestling has so many potential roles people can fit in character-wise, the wrestler just has to accept their role and make it work.

Punk won't leave like AEW, he'll leave like he did in WWE. Once he's not in the position he wants to be in, he'll be out. There's still fuel in the tank to finish out the Tribal Chief run. He loses the title and slowly loses power and respect. Makes an enemy of the whole Bloodline, then they retire him. Edge also had the Rated R spinner belt. The spinner belt does have a lot more of the pomp and circumstance you'd expect a world title belt to have, which is why it still worked even when it wasn't with Cena.

For instance - Remsburg is clueless and will not notice any cheating until it is convenient, might take a bump too. Aubrey is always paired up with Jericho specifically because of kayfabe "they hate each other" so there will be tension and shouting involved. Knox is very lax about rules and will not count to 10 outside of the ring even in times where he could have counted to 50 had he wished to. It gets tiresome.

I would like to see OC with it, but he will have earned it. Spinner belt. I just didn't like it. I thought it was dumb. It did look good when it didn't spin, but I thought the spinning part was just dumb. Shelton is an amazing talent. "Nothing" would be hyperbolic, but Punk's fanbase is generally behind him for being the anti-WWE guy and metaphorically crawling back there probably won't bring most of them along. Being altogether burned out on chicken-shit heel champions with giant factions constantly interfering, I would say that Jericho and Omegas runs did nothing for me. (And neither does the Bloodline, to cover that side of the table, it got boring somewhere around the 5 month Kevin Owens feud in the first year) Following from that, I'd obviously say that any of the like 9 actual tag teams in WWE getting the belts and a story in their division rather then spending the tag belts as props for the upper midcard and main event storyline.
