I MISS this era. I grew up watching this as a pre-teen to teenager and then until his retirement. I was born in '82. It's nice to see some of the stuff I never got to see. He was LEGEND. #LoveLetterman I got to see him in 96' with my mum. Was fantastic!

OMG...the adult theatre/root beer barrel joke! Hadn't thought of it in years, and for some reason months ago, remembered it again, still shocked they had that sweet woman in the audience tell it. How great (?) to see it again now!

I know this guy, indirectly. An excellent writer and musician. My friend Rob introduced me to Andy's work, and I have been following him ever since. I particularly remember the "Good Day" song, and the Rabbi Finkelman tunes. Rob interviewed Andy via cassettes many moons ago, and Andy was very mischievous.

As I listened to Andy sing, I just knew I've heard that voice before. After a little investigation, I found his song "So Far So Good" here on KZbin. That was the one I remembered! For many years, I've been listening to a program called "Across the Great Divide" on KPFA radio out of Berkeley. The original host retired back in2014, but until then several of Andy's songs were played every once in a while, including "Railroad Bill" and "Don't Get Killed." Glad I stumbled upon this!!

Andy Breckman’s music is brilliant! Look for “Railroad Bill” - one of the most brilliant pieces of folk music ever performed! Also, he created the show “Monk.” I had no idea he was a Letterman writer! Yay!

In the early years were writers able to spring things on Dave once the show was already being recorded? Because a lot of the later writers said when they submitted ideas, the ideas were escalated up to Dave. But it seems like early on Dave was caught off-guard a lot like it was the first time he was hearing about things. Haha. Right before Dave said enough of the bird on the shadow puppets, I heard someone say tweet tweet. 🤣
