I've never seen an interview with a combat soldier be conducted with such grace, compassion, humility and understanding as I just watched Lara Logan do. The questions were spot on and to the point and more importantly she didn't rush the answers or interrupt. Kudos to the Australian 60 minutes team and Lara Logan for such a heart felt, heart rendering job and God bless our fighting men and women who sacrifice so much for their country and get so little in return.🇺🇸

He is truly a hero, but he sees things the way he does bc this is how a soldier thinks. This is how we were trained to think. The whole point of the "Army of ONE" slogan. Ty for ur service sir!! I pray that 1 day u can wear that award proudly if for no other reason than for those u cared for who didn't make it home.

I had the honor of serving with a 19 year old PFC Sal Giunta in Qalat, AF on FOB Lagman. I was the PSYOP attachment to his unit. The 173rd ABN was one of the most professional and hard charging infantry units I supported and they were consistently assigned the most difficult missions in our AO. I am not the least bit surprised that this man stepped up and earned this medal when his number was called. I am honored to share a combat patch with this man. Here's to the better days at FOB Apocalypse, Sal. I cannot imagine the bravery you had to show that day. My hat's off to you, SSG Giunta.

I was a soldier. It is never about us. Giunta is the epitome of a Medal of Honor recipient. He didn't want the medal. He would have much rather had his friends alive and well. In the end, for us soldiers, it about the person standing next to us. We develop a bond that goes beyond words. Beyond friendship. I wish i could put into words what I am trying to express here. Military and former military will understand. It isn't about us. It is about those standing next to us.

Thank you Staff Sergeant Giunta. We veteran's are honored by your exceptional representation. I can't begin to imagine how hard that is. I heard David Bellavia speaking of you fondly yesterday during an interview. I guess it is complicated - civilians might not understand at all and veterans might expect too much? John Basilone went through way too much. My brother worked with Ryan Pitts and he is also a humble dude just looking to get along for his family. Humbled to be close in this regard. Many blessings sir.

What a truly decent and honourable man. Dignified, modest, and really hating the significance that his bosses have singled him out for. Although he couldn't save his friend's life medically, he saved him in just enough time for the man to know that he was back with his brother soldiers who loved him. The family got their son and brother back home too, albeit too late, but home nonetheless. The greatest insult was that the military later surrended the entire valley!

DAVID FERNANDEZ Thank you. I think I was a pretty good wife given the circumstances. My husband was frequently paranoid about me sleeping w other marines while he was either while he was at work or deployed. He had nothing to base it on for me personally. I gave him no reason not to trust me. I don’t even flirt. I’m really not good at it! Lol Reassuring him I was faithful did next to nothing for putting him at ease. He believed what he believed and that was it. I didn’t even know anyone where we were stationed aside from my one girl friend who was the wife of my husband’s friend/fellow marine. Plus I was at home all day with our two kids both under 2 yrs old. Apparently that really is that common of an occurrence with the wives. Which is really sad...Worrying and upsetting him was the very last thing I wanted to do for him while he was deployed. That’s something military men and women should not have to worry about on top of everything else.

DAVID FERNANDEZ there’s of course “evil” people in both men and women. We’re not together. We’ve been separated since October 2009 and yet we’re still legally married. We couldn’t get along. It was toxic. He had a really severe drinking problem that I believe made it all much harder than it could’ve been. He became abusive in every way you can be abusive while he was drinking. He’s three years sober now but the damage in our relationship is already done. Just remember, there’s also a lot of good loyal caring females out there as well :).

I’m just a kid from Hiawatha, the suburb of Cedar Rapids that Giunta grew up in. We went to the same high school. I was a Cub Scout that marched in his Medal of Honor parade. Undoubtedly influenced me into enlisting. Lost some friends. I can’t even imagine what he’s going through on days like today. Wherever he is, whatever he’s doing, I hope he’s doing alright.
