Amazing how good this dog is both physically and mentally, house trained and now a loyal family member for last 8 weeks...People guess him now at 4-5 years of age and I must say he's looking fitter and stronger since we got him with daily walking and better diet. I found my amstaff in the middle of the road at 4am after closing up my bar. I walked the rest of the way home, and he followed me the whole way. Did my due diligence to try to return him to his owner, but no one came looking for him. He is the most wonderful dog ever, and if one day I get another one, it will absolutely be an amstaff. They're incredible dogs, and I can never see myself without one now.

My AmStaff is so calm that he’s referred to as “Buddha” by my neighbors. I live in NYC so we encounter many dogs on our walks and in the dog park. When an aggressive dog growls or lunges at my boy he always remains calm - stands his ground, isn’t submissive, but doesn’t lose his cool and never returns the aggression. It’s true what the guy says about the strong bond - I don’t know about staffies but AmStaffs are not independent dogs. They are velcro dogs who need to be with their person (or preferably on their person) to be happy, and they live to please.

@@jazzypoo7960 If that’s her in your thumbnail she’s a beauty! Was she ok? If it’s a stray it might not have had its shots - I hope your girl doesn’t have any serious consequences. I was walking my boy the other day when a Westie (West Highland Terrier) came from nowhere, viciously trying to bite his face. He did his signature move: quickly turning and slamming his butt into the Westie. The owner came running over from a few feet away and grabbed her dog - she was attending to her baby in its carriage and didn’t realize her Westie was untethered. She was so grateful that my dog didn’t attack back - she said she’d understand if it did because her Westie was asking for it. I’m also very grateful that my boy is so calm - he’s been attacked by big dogs too and although he does defend himself as best he can, he never tries to bite and the situation is always over when the owner gets the other dog under control, so there’s never a situation where two angry dogs are going at each other. I thank and praise him for that whenever it happens (3 times in 5 years) Long life and good health to you and your lovely girl!

I was a little alarmed when I read about the history of the Amstaff breed, but I quickly found that he is a gentle sweetheart dog who is eager to please. At 45 pounds, he is a little small for an Amstaff, but about average for the blue heeler. His coat and colors look very Amstaff. He is very trainable. I have since taken in a German shepherd and the two dogs get along very well. It's hard to tell which one is more intelligent.

4 days ago we gott a staffy from a shelter.......when pucking him up, it turns out acording to his passport it's a pure bred amstaff. Stil love the stinky lummox. 6 mnth old never saw a sunset or sunrise. Outside is a little scary, and listening to me is hard, but he is getting better at it. He was not socialised but plays with other dogs, sits on his own, and follows like a champ. I'm very proud already. He will become my balance and coordination service dog when he is 1 year old. The only noise he makes is toilet time(2 high-pitched yaps), and a dog that stares too long gets a soft, anoid, sit-down growl. No aggression for food, humans, or dogs. He loves the kids. But for some reason, shepherd breeds, Dutch sheppards, especially seem to not like him or the other bully breeds in our neighbourhood

He has an independent nature where he will go off and chill by himself untill I move and then he follows to watch and protect me from the other room untill I say it okay and he will lay down and gnaw on a chew toy. Amazing breed if you take the time to bond and train and play , he loves running laps at the park. I have Been helping him be the best dog he can be since 6weeks.

I tell them apart by two main physical differences. Amstaff have relatively longer and more straight legs albeit that their body is similarly stocky and hence stand taller than the Staffy. Amstaff also have longer muzzle which makes their head look more brick-like than the Staffy, which in comparison have a more round face. Other than these, most Amstaff have their ear cropped by their owners while the Staffy rarely get ear cropped.

I never had a dog before but I've been involved with dogs and learning about them all my life, have a very good understanding and knowledge of obedience training, setting boundaries, rules and limitations and I do consider myself capable of being a calm and consistent leader, so would it be more challenging to go for the slightly larger version of the Staffy?

They all have individual personalities but are very loving, intelligent and eager to please. It would definitely depend on the living space you have & time for walks/runs etc, The Amstaff will require more space & exercise. They make fantastic guard dogs (NOT ATTACK DOGS) and just personally the Amstaffs "look" more intimidating to a potential foe... they will let you know if somebody's outside, and you can tell by their bark if it's a friend or a stranger (I love that!!) The Amstaff will definitely not be more of a challenge to own... just more to love💖

Have my, what I think is an Amstaffie, from a rescue center, full of beans, great with the kids and other folk, loves annoying the cat 😄, I’d like to send you some photos of him to try an help establish if he is an Amstaffie, the center had him down as a pocket bully but I don’t think they are correct at all.

Hi ,my boy ,King is a pure 3 yr old 82 kg Amstaff, he is perfectly trained and a big soul with me and his chihuahua sister and people BUT dogs he doesn't know he just wants too kill AND I MEAN KILL , I have too walk him with a harness and lead and collar and lead as if another dog not on a lead comes near us he goes ballistic and has broken many leads , so I make sure he has a back up on at all times. He has 2 Guinea pigs he regards , treats and protects like his puppies , so how do I get him through this very last problem of unknown dogs ?. Thank you so much

I found a bully type dog on the street. She's 80 lbs and tall. Trying to figure out if she's pit, am staff or English staff. Probably a mix of sorts
@jeaneanking1663 жыл бұрын
Not likely to be any of the above. Simply to large. She’s likely an American Bully or mix.

What’s the difference between an Am Staff and American Pitbull terrier?
@Croft-do5io15 күн бұрын
This is actually a complex question. They have a conjoined history (the AmStaffs being the show line and the APBT is the working line, yet historically, the same individual dog could be registered as two different breeds). Today, they are different breeds, but most Americans, even those who work in shelters, cannot tell them apart, let alone Brits who have almost zero exposure to these breeds given the 1990 legislation. They do look different to those who can draw on lots of experience with purebred examples of each and they do show up as distinct breeds on a DNA test (although it doesn't take long to develop distinct DNA, see the very recent American Bullies). Briefly, AmStaffs are taller and heavier and have a boxier head, pit bulls are more aquiline and are more likely to have the pittie smile. Certain white parti-color patterns are more common with the Amstaffs. Anecdotally, my purebred APBTs have tended to have a spicier temperament than those with AmStaff in their mix. I also find the AmStaffs more likely to guard property while the APBTs are usually very soft with people. Both (in common with the British staffy) can have high prey drive reflecting their shared history as a catch dog. Both have a very resilient cheerful temperament but can get riled up & bouncy when they play. I like both and would have more of either, but they both require a responsible owner who will not allow them to break free and chase. They both tend to be mellow in the house and I find them both eager and pretty easy to train.

Here is the interesting history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier... The Staffordshire Bull Terrier originates from the old Bull and terrier dogs of the UK, which were a cross between the Old English Bulldog and various terriers such as the White Terrier and Black and Tan Terrier. There were also Irish versions of this dog that used Irish Terrier admixture. The English Bull and Terrier dogs did not have one standard, but had three main types: the Cradley Heath type (more bulldog characteristics than Terrier characteristics, shortest type), the Walsall type (similar to the Cradley Heath type, but with some Whippet bred in for speed and agility which made it the tallest type) and the Darlaston type (more Terrier characteristics than bulldog characteristics, medium height). Another type of Bull and terrier would also be created called the Hinks Bull and Terrier. The Cradley Heath type would later be renamed the “Staffordshire Bull Terrier” and the Hinks Bull and Terrier would be renamed the “Bull Terrier” in which the word “and” was left out. The Walsall Bull and Terrier would make its way to the USA and there, it was developed into the American Pitbull Terrier by adding some Irish Bull and Terrier into the bloodline and the American Staffordshire Terrier was bred from this line. The rest is history. Here is a family tree of SBT, AST and APBT: ibb.co/P1hTbZH Source: molosser.co/staffordshire-bull-terrier/
