8:46 i’ve had Pitbulls and Staffy bull terriers practically all my life. I started with the American Staffordshire terrier that my son brought home that nobody wanted. She was a brindle, and then my son’s girlfriend got a gray pitbull, and when they no longer could keep the dogs I adopted them. As the years went by I kept adopting the Pitbulls. I’ve had them for many years, and I’m always so sad when they die. They made me so happy to have them part of the family. They were wonderful loving family dogs, so as I got older and I became unable to walk anymore, I bought a golf cart and my recent staffy bullterrier runs beside it as I drive. He is so happy and lovable, he wants me to do this every single day and I if the weather is good we will go. They are the best breed of dog I have ever wanted. My recent staffy’s name is Jax. ❤

When I was 8, I found 3 abandoned stafffy puppies in the alley. I took them home, and they all grew up to be beautiful and strong. We kept the boy and rehomed the two females to family. The Boy was named Chulo and he was an absolutely monster. He was so muscular and had stamina for days. He used to pull me on rollerblades for hours. He onced faught two loose dogs that ran at me when we were on one of our walks. He did not let them get close to me and absolutely destroyed the other two dogs. One was a Rottweiler and the other was some sort of Shepherd mix. He died at around 12 from health issues.

She has one that looks just like him. Anyways, my question is what should I go with, a Staff Pitt Bull or just say half and half?
@crustydownunder Жыл бұрын
I've breed pitbulls and staffies. I adored my Pitbulls, but they need way more attention. If you take them out in public, you must always be aware of what your dog is looking at. I never had a bad experience with the pitbulls, but that's because i was always on my guard. And I spent lots of time training them. Staffies have become my favorite, by far. I have property, but I can leave them outside all day and they never go past the boundaries. We have hundreds of sheep, on the otherside of the fence, but they never bother with them. We have several horse on the other side, but again, the staffies aren't phased, and simply socialize with the horses. Going up to the fence to say hello. Staffies will eagerly play all day, or, just lay about in the sun, or the shade. They are great with my grandkids, and put up with anything. My oldest dog (whom I've spent 12 years with is the smartest dog I've ever seen). He follows a dozen hand signals, and knows hundreds of words and commands. I've also breed blue and red healers, of which I had some very smart dogs, but no smarter than the staffie. The difference is the healers would bite my kids when they were toddlers. I much prefer the trusted staffie.

The problem is that "pitbull" seems to mean 2 things in America. It can mean "American Pitbull Terriers," but that's usually only among dog enthusiasts. The second meaning is "pitbull-type," which means all dogs of a certain appearance. I'm betting less than 1% of America's "pitbulls" are registered Pitbulls, but the second meaning has taken hold. I'm glad you're educating your friends, because dogs keep dying due to the "pitbull-type" use of the word. Imagine if all the so-called pitbulls in shelters were just labeled as mixes or cross-breeds, instead of an age-old scareword that has been hyped up by the media for decades.

I've had Pitbulls and Staffies, not a lot between them. Choke chains, back in the day (sorry), halties and harnesses had little effect in stopping them pulling. Sooo, back to basics. The leash is a command, dog sits at your side, leash is attached while the dog stays in position and the step forward is the visual command to walk at heel backed up with the verbal command. When (if) the dog is walking at heel I let the slack leash touch the shoulder, it reinforces the correct position. To get to this point I bore the dog into obedience. When it loads the leash up I give a soft verbal rebuke and gentle tug on the leash. Inevitably that fails so it's back to sit and heel. When the dog ignores the rebuke it's sit, stay, heel. Rinse repeat. A short walk can last a long time but I've managed to get every dog to heel on a slack leash with this slow and patient method. A pocket full of high value treats helps a lot if you walk a measured distance and reward the heel at the end.

All I did was offer to play with him and we did for less than an hour. Took him home and after a short period of checking out his new home nestled up to me and went to sleep. Now I don't know what I would do without him. He's very attentive and eager to please has a moderate prey drive and has helped with some vermin on the farm. His favorite prey are Pheasant and Partridge which he has yet to catch not for lack of trying, it's so interesting to watch him stock the birds. The only thing I have issues with, is that he has been a real pain to train. He is 18 months now and he is getting there, but its really hard work! He loves to run at people and dogs, but he only wants to play, and tyhat can be intimidating to people and to the dogs too! I have mostly got him to a level where I tell him to WAIT or STAY and he drops to the floor and stares at the other dog ( he still runs up to people ) and most of the time, he will wait until the dog has passed, but if the other dog shows ANY attention to him, he goes. This is really annoying me, and I am always ending up saying that he is not vicious and he isnt, he is a bloody softie, but people are sometimes genuinely scared of him just because he does look a bit pit bull-ish. But I love him and he absolutely adores me and so the idea that I could rehome him, is simply not even a thing... That will NEVER happen.

My wife and son can't take him on a casual walk because they simply are not strong enough to stop him if another animal flips his switch. They're one squirrel away from a broken tail bone. And I have hard wood and his zoomys are so powerfull he slid once and busted through my reptile tank and the sheetrock. I've had my head busted open to the skull playing. (He headbutted me with his teeth, immediately looked like someone told him santa wont real lol)I've been drug down hills. He can snap cattle bones in half so playing tug of war with something small is dangerous and thats not his fault.Let's just say those first two years would have been to much for people not used to hounds or working dogs etc and he'd have found himself in the pound for no reason other than he's alot of dog and required alot of patience and confidence to train and socialize. All in all everyone is amazed at his temperament, guardian traits, physicality, power all while not realizing I know them and they would have sent him to the pound by around 1 year old for being a good dog with no leadership cause they think companion/pet line traits are "good". Personally I think those traits say the dogs retarded. Non aggressive, accepting of strangers, lethargic, submissive, reactive (with fear or anxienty). imo a dog thats ganna be a legend is full of wanderlust from born to 1. And a straight hellraiser 1-2. By 5 Years old you'll have a beast. I'm not sure about other places but here in VA dog fighting was very active well into the early 2000s so many of our local lines are directly traced back to fighters. Within only a few generations. I'm not not sure if that effects our pool of "putbulls" physically or mentally in comparison to a general pitbull from say north Carolina which tend to look and act more like hounds.

Lots of people think the Staffy is a pitbull.
@Petethehun2 жыл бұрын
I adopted a 5 month old part female Lab (80%) and part Staffy (20%) that just turned 8 months old. However she is much more Staffy in appearance. My other dog is a 3 year old male part Australian Cattle dog and Brittany Spaniel that looks just like a Dingo except the ears are down. Touching to see how much they like each other. They play off and on all day in the house and back yard. I am retired so take them for a couple walks a day that adds up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day. It’s crazy how strong she is and seems not to care if she tumbles down the stairs or off the couch. She is still young and does not know her strength. The male dog on occasion is like a bowling pin when the “tank” runs into him. Funny but concerning. He lets her know when he’s had enough. Her lab genetics makes her a powerful swimmer when I go to the lake. Came back from a week by a lake where she swam about 3 hours a day. She likes to put her head under the water. Is this a Staffy trait too?

I agree with most of what you said, except that staffies are better with kids. I live with an English staffy but used to breed game bred pit bulls, and I can tell you there is nothing more perfect than a game bred pit bull!!

They are the same breed they come from the same stock but its like breeding the taller ones together and the shorter ones together. They both show no signs of quit they will keep going and going until they are literally exhausted and pass out. They are the best dogs in the world they love their owner like no other.

I was at the dog park & my staffy/Am pit bull mix was bouncing across the park and someone asked me what breed she is. I said, "She's part Kangaroo". "Oh, wow!", he said. "That's so cool!" I didn't have the heart to tell him the truth, lol. She bounces like she's built on springs!

During the "Great Depression of the 1930's" the American Kennel Club added American Pit Bull Terriers to their registry under the name ofStaffordshire Terrier.... With that being said they're both the same breed except the "Staffordshire terrier" is bred slightly different under the AKC standard

The difference between staffs and pit bulls are always vague. I’ve never heard anyone give an account for how the staff got its long legs. I have a 3/4 staff 1/4 greyhound. People who are in the know think she’s pinball.Makes a lot of sense when you think the best fighting dogs came from Ireland and the Irish are also keen for hunting.I’m suggesting the origin of the pitbul came from designing a lurcher …. A greyhound to catch up and the staff for the attack = a pit bull is born
@curtisfranzen9862 жыл бұрын
I believe that part of the identification problem is that there are several different breeds in the US that are genetically described as Pit Bulls.
@curtisfranzen9862 жыл бұрын
Amstaffs are one. Originally bread as hunting dogs, they are taller, faster, but just as strong. My Cookie is proof. She is 75lbs, 18 inch at the shoulder. Cookie is currently cuddled up with my wife Kathie. Ya, "vicious dog". But most people still call her a Pit.
@paulfletcher39982 жыл бұрын
@Rich Pedley - the reason you've never heard an account of how the SBT got it's long legs is, SBT don't have long legs, thus no one has talked about it. The SBT is a compact dog. The Pit bull has nothing to do with the Lurcher or the Greyhound.

A common reason why people don't like staffies is because of the idiots who parade them around like some kind of accessory. Any well brought up staffie I have met has been a lovely dog

Geez I don't kmow if I have a Staffie an AmStaff an American Bully or Bull Staff. One has a slightly longer muzzle is eternally patient, loves and recoginzies smaller weaker critters, and is super energentic, loves to run, and exercise. The other is more snub muzzled, a born leader, and makes sure the other one knows its place. However, has no where near the prey drive, or exercise needs of the other. Both are extremtly loyal and affectionate. Any ideas out there, KZbin land? I adore them both.

adopted a staffy back in 2011. he recently died and was looking for another. found a woman on gumtree who was selling her almost 3 year old 'staffy' due to her landlord throwing them out and with a reasonable price i said yes and took him. but the more i look the more he does not look like a staffy. people in the street when on walks have told me he looks like a pitbull. i always thought of pitbulls to be aggressive and nothing like the staff. but he's so well trained and loving. he loves to play and give kisses and sleep on my lap. but now i'm concerned that he may be a pit because of what people have been saying and as i live in the uk the pitbull breed is apparently banned over here and i'm afraid he might be forced to get put down. he is such a playful little guy and one of the cutest puppers i've owned. he's a gorgeous golden brown colour with golden eyes and a reddish/orange nose. which also makes me think he is not full staff as staffs only have black noses. but i'm just worried. i feel like i was scammed into believing this dog is a staff but it would also explain the low price he was sold for if she lied to get rid of him. i really don't want him to be put to sleep but i need to know what breed he is

My Pitbull has proven that chewing is the way to go when he is bored. He has destroyed all his toys. His main goal it to take their "heart" out AKA the squeaker, has chew all his beds and blankets, the chairs, couch, cardboard, pens, pencils, sticks, clothing, shoes, you name it, and recently has started on vinyl flooring. He gets exercised, but to get him tired for a few hours happens when he gets to play with other dogs, he absolutely loves it.

I have a Pit bull since he was 2 Years old things for him to chew on were bought immediately he understood what's his and what's not I've never had him chew as much shoe because he's always had his own if I ask him where's his toy he brings me a rope or pull ring not a stuffy because they belong to the kids you can even leave a plate of food around him he won't touch it I say all of this to say pit bulls are highly intelligent and will learn if you are consistent with training
