8:46 i’ve had Pitbulls and Staffy bull terriers practically all my life. I started with the American Staffordshire terrier that my son brought home that nobody wanted. She was a brindle, and then my son’s girlfriend got a gray pitbull, and when they no longer could keep the dogs I adopted them. As the years went by I kept adopting the Pitbulls. I’ve had them for many years, and I’m always so sad when they die. They made me so happy to have them part of the family. They were wonderful loving family dogs, so as I got older and I became unable to walk anymore, I bought a golf cart and my recent staffy bullterrier runs beside it as I drive. He is so happy and lovable, he wants me to do this every single day and I if the weather is good we will go. They are the best breed of dog I have ever wanted. My recent staffy’s name is Jax. ❤

When I was 8, I found 3 abandoned stafffy puppies in the alley. I took them home, and they all grew up to be beautiful and strong. We kept the boy and rehomed the two females to family. The Boy was named Chulo and he was an absolutely monster. He was so muscular and had stamina for days. He used to pull me on rollerblades for hours. He onced faught two loose dogs that ran at me when we were on one of our walks. He did not let them get close to me and absolutely destroyed the other two dogs. One was a Rottweiler and the other was some sort of Shepherd mix. He died at around 12 from health issues.

Thank you so much! I'm looking to adopt an amstaff from a shelter, but they have her listed as a pitt. My family has owned pit bulls, German Rottweilers, and shi-tzus my whole life, so when I took the amstaff home for a dog visit day, she acted NOTHING like the Pitts I've owned in the past, so I started doing research and I am so thankful I now know I can register her as an amstaff, (my apartment managers are assholes to pittbulls) I can't wait to go get her!!

We got her at 10 weeks and even then she would make him go to sleep with her every night around 10. Bailey just had a litter of 10 puppies on December 13th, the daddy was a pit, gorgeous. She has one that looks just like him. Anyways, my question is what should I go with, a Staff Pitt Bull or just say half and half?

@JWildberry
@JWildberry 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is that "pitbull" seems to mean 2 things in America. It can mean "American Pitbull Terriers," but that's usually only among dog enthusiasts. The second meaning is "pitbull-type," which means all dogs of a certain appearance. I'm betting less than 1% of America's "pitbulls" are registered Pitbulls, but the second meaning has taken hold. I'm glad you're educating your friends, because dogs keep dying due to the "pitbull-type" use of the word. Imagine if all the so-called pitbulls in shelters were just labeled as mixes or cross-breeds, instead of an age-old scareword that has been hyped up by the media for decades.

Easy misconception. And a common one. In America they are still to be considered pitbull breed due to AKC registration. But we've had both breeds and cam easily tell the difference. Wonderful breeds altogether.

@@JWildberry They are both strong bloodlines..from the Original Pitbull from England.( the Bull and Terrier ..Old English Bulldog ).the Staffordshire Bull terrier...the Term Bull refers to Bull baiting...( you put a dog in the Pit to bait the bull Hence Pit Bull) Both have baiting qualities..strong necks ..jump high onto a rope ..shake ect. Unfortunately Pit Bull is a type of dog..thats just History..and the US hate the blanket term..as a lot get mistaken for Ampt.

Thank you so much for all you are doing to educate us! I"ve had what I thought where pitbulls for my companions for many years to now question whether they may have been staffordshire terriers or pitbulls? I guess it doesn't really matter since everyone that I've come in contact with has become the love of my life! They truly are fantastic family loving companions. I think my pup who is soon to be brought home is close to 70 lbs is probably more in the pitbull range. Your videos are helping me to know what I may be up against, since I've been told he needs some guidance and direction to put it mildly! LOL

Thank you! I came to this video to learn more about the differences between both breeds and actually got that information from an actual person and not a robot voice saying the obvious over and over. It's also pleasant to hear someone talk about american bulls without just calling them killing machines and talking about the ACTUAL problem of bad owners. Every dog is wonderful and different in its own way. And people need to learn how to accommodate their dog with training instead of just buying it and just staring at it all day.

I've breed pitbulls and staffies. I adored my Pitbulls, but they need way more attention. If you take them out in public, you must always be aware of what your dog is looking at. I never had a bad experience with the pitbulls, but that's because i was always on my guard. And I spent lots of time training them. Staffies have become my favorite, by far. I have property, but I can leave them outside all day and they never go past the boundaries. We have hundreds of sheep, on the otherside of the fence, but they never bother with them. We have several horse on the other side, but again, the staffies aren't phased, and simply socialize with the horses. Going up to the fence to say hello. Staffies will eagerly play all day, or, just lay about in the sun, or the shade. They are great with my grandkids, and put up with anything. My oldest dog (whom I've spent 12 years with is the smartest dog I've ever seen). He follows a dozen hand signals, and knows hundreds of words and commands. I've also breed blue and red healers, of which I had some very smart dogs, but no smarter than the staffie. The difference is the healers would bite my kids when they were toddlers. I much prefer the trusted staffie.

I've had Pitbulls and Staffies, not a lot between them. Choke chains, back in the day (sorry), halties and harnesses had little effect in stopping them pulling. Sooo, back to basics. The leash is a command, dog sits at your side, leash is attached while the dog stays in position and the step forward is the visual command to walk at heel backed up with the verbal command. When (if) the dog is walking at heel I let the slack leash touch the shoulder, it reinforces the correct position. To get to this point I bore the dog into obedience. When it loads the leash up I give a soft verbal rebuke and gentle tug on the leash. Inevitably that fails so it's back to sit and heel. When the dog ignores the rebuke it's sit, stay, heel. Rinse repeat. A short walk can last a long time but I've managed to get every dog to heel on a slack leash with this slow and patient method. A pocket full of high value treats helps a lot if you walk a measured distance and reward the heel at the end.

I love Staffys! I rescued one and he's the best! Easy to train once you establish trust and provide for their needs. We are best buds and have been from the start. All I did was offer to play with him and we did for less than an hour. Took him home and after a short period of checking out his new home nestled up to me and went to sleep. Now I don't know what I would do without him. He's very attentive and eager to please has a moderate prey drive and has helped with some vermin on the farm. His favorite prey are Pheasant and Partridge which he has yet to catch not for lack of trying, it's so interesting to watch him stock the birds. I think he would make a great hunting dog but most of all he's great companion.

I had a female staffy she was 130 lbs. of pure muscle and she was over 2'6" at the shoulders. she was very, very intelligent, and super protective of me. I got Lady from a animal pound she was about 6 months of then. I was 17 years old at the time and she lived and I enjoyed 4 wonderful years with her. and some man shot and killed her in my yard. he thought she was a pittbull dog. and I have served 27 year's in prison for shooting and killing him. I have not had a dog companion since and I am 48 years old now. I would give anything to have my Lady back

I adopted a 5 month old part female Lab (80%) and part Staffy (20%) that just turned 8 months old. However she is much more Staffy in appearance. My other dog is a 3 year old male part Australian Cattle dog and Brittany Spaniel that looks just like a Dingo except the ears are down. Touching to see how much they like each other. They play off and on all day in the house and back yard. I am retired so take them for a couple walks a day that adds up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day. It’s crazy how strong she is and seems not to care if she tumbles down the stairs or off the couch. She is still young and does not know her strength. The male dog on occasion is like a bowling pin when the “tank” runs into him. Funny but concerning. He lets her know when he’s had enough. Her lab genetics makes her a powerful swimmer when I go to the lake. Came back from a week by a lake where she swam about 3 hours a day. She likes to put her head under the water. Is this a Staffy trait too?

I have a Staffy and he's the softest, freidnliest dog i've ever had, my daughter was only 4 when I got him as a pup and he loves her so much and he loves her firends visiting, he plays on the trampoline with them too, he will defend himself against dogs that bite him, thankfully I've always had him on the lead on the few occasions he has being bit, but, he always assumes other dsogs will play with him, and cats actually, oh, lets not forget, he gives great hugs, not kidding at all, he often comes over to place his head over my shoulder and stays there with his wagging tail

@@ACJr7 In America the "pit bull" is separate from the American Staffordshire bull Terrier. The UKC recognized APBT or American Pit Bull Terrier as it's own breed. My Pitbull has proven that chewing is the way to go when he is bored. He has destroyed all his toys. His main goal it to take their "heart" out AKA the squeaker, has chew all his beds and blankets, the chairs, couch, cardboard, pens, pencils, sticks, clothing, shoes, you name it, and recently has started on vinyl flooring. He gets exercised, but to get him tired for a few hours happens when he gets to play with other dogs, he absolutely loves it.

Geez I don't kmow if I have a Staffie an AmStaff an American Bully or Bull Staff. One has a slightly longer muzzle is eternally patient, loves and recoginzies smaller weaker critters, and is super energentic, loves to run, and exercise. The other is more snub muzzled, a born leader, and makes sure the other one knows its place. However, has no where near the prey drive, or exercise needs of the other. Both are extremtly loyal and affectionate. Any ideas out there, KZbin land? I adore them both.

My Wife, Kathie and I recently adopted a "Pit Bull" from our daughter, Liz. Her name is Cookie. She is 18" at the shoulder, and weighs 70+ lbs. When I say rescued, I truly mean it. Liz literally found Cookie on the streets of Tulsa. Pregnant, starving, and and dehydrated. Thankfully, Liz volunteers at a No Kill Shelter, and took Cookie there immediately. Of course, we all know that no one is going to adopt a 70+ pound "Pit", I get the "Daddy Please!!" call. Liz adopted Cookie. Gives birth to 7 puppies, all of which were adopted to forever homes. Liz personally oversaw this process. How do I end up with Cookie? Due to "reasons", Liz had to move. Her new place had breed restrictions. So now I have a 70+ pound "Pit" living in my home. Now I had to do research. Liz's vet said Cookie is a Pit/Lab cross. Cookie has NO Lab traits. She has ALOT of Amstaff traits. I mean like the definition of an Amstaff. This wonderful dog cuddles with Kathie, gently plays with our grandson, cuddles with me, and does still give the "Eyes locked" gaze at a potential threat. Cookie is a GOOD GIRL!!

@@curtisfranzen986 It’s obvious to see where Liz inherited her humanity from, good job to all of ye who did this kind deed for a lost little dog family. Do you not worry about Cookies past and the reason why she was abandoned. Maybe she was from a bad family and abused and she may have some hidden aggression issues that might appear out of the blue some day in front of your grandchild.(I hope not, I pray). I adopted a small Jack Russell from the pound once, cute as a button. Every time I’d drop a rake/ sweeping brush then reach to pick it up, he’d try to attack me. I keep him well away from the kids after that I just couldn’t trust him.

@@thebee8415 I have an educated opinion. Cookie IS an abuse survivor. I still see it. Every day. Cookie has horrible nightmares, she jumps if touched unexpectedly, she has severe separation anxiety if both Kathie and I happen to be out of the house. It's heartbreaking at times.

@@thebee8415 To answer some questions. Cookie was abused and neglected. To be honest, I don't know how Cookie isn't aggressive towards everyone and everything. Also, while Cookie will listen to me, and even cuddle up, make no mistake. COOKIE IS KATHIE'S DOG!!
