I met Brian about 9 years ago and immediately appreciated the breeding program he had established at Steadfast. Now have two Staffordshire Bull Terriers from him and will eventually go back for a third one.

He nailed with the pitbull folks talking about the past , saying don't put with other animals because they would kill them, so then what is the point for having a game dog that can't work in a pack ,or can't be in a house with kids..

First let me say I think you are 100% Sincere in your Endeavors into this Breed,...."BUT"! You spoke about A.P.B.T.'s Being "Man Biters" and "Bad Mothers". People Biters come in "Every Breed"...and "Bad Mothers" Come in Every Species" of Animal on the Planet Including "Human Beings!! Where the Difference Lies.. is in the Frequency of these Traits showing themselves within a Particular Breed! Pit Bulls are on the Extreme Low End of these "Genetic Flaws", Especially when the Breeder is Known for his Discipline, Dilligence, and Dedication in making Sure that Dogs Showing these "Traits" are Not Allowed to reproduce, and thereby Perpetuate an already Negative and "Exaggerated" Behavior! Also, you spoke of "toughness" being an "Important" Trait in the Breed,...But also Good Temperament with Children! Well it is "GAMENESS" that Seperates Staffys and PitBulls from all other Breeds And "GAMENESS" that makes them one of the Most (if Not The Most) Stable Breeds around Children! If a Bulldog(that's what I call PitBulls) is a Man-biter, How woukd His Owner Tend to His Wounds after Subduing a 400lb Boar to Feed His family with!? Bulldogs Do Not threat Display like other Breeds"...they Do Not Bare their Teeth and Growl Menacingly! Why?...Because they know what they Are! Thousands of years of Breeding has given them a thicker, tougher Hide, their Brains Produce more Endorphins to reduce the feeling of Pain! They Wag their Tails while in Combat!...They.Dont understand why Another Dog does not enjoy "Scrapping" I like they.do! And therein Lies the "Responsibility" of Owning a Dog with an Incredible Prey Drive! It can be Lonely at times.! But Irresponsible, puppy Peddlers that have 2 "Viscious" Dogs that they know will Bite, maim, and even possibly kill...will still Breed and Sell a terrible Accident waiting to happen. And.Show Breeders are just as Bad as they Breed the Essence and work Ethic right out of the Dog in exchange for a Prancing Ball of Fur that is incapable of performing the very task for.which it was bred...and is a socially Maladjusted Bomb waiting to go Off! My Bulldogs were Well Bred, socialized, friendly to a Fault and never harmed another Dog unless they were Jumpedl! But the one thing I will never compromise is having a "Game-bed" Bulldog in my Home and around My Children!

I own an elderly 12 year old mostly STB, 80%+ with some APB, AST and bulldog. She was rescued from a very bad situation. Since we have had her she has had liver failure, cancer and is riddled with arthritis. Her gameness is off the scale. Her most recent bout of ill health was multiple slipped discs one of which was almost severing her spinal cord, her back legs could barely function. She still dragged herself across gravel cutting her paws, tail wagging to pick a fight with a mastiff 4 times her mass. After some expensive surgery she is now on the mend and back to 4 half hour walks a day. On a good day, she glowers with silence malevolence at other dogs on bad day she is tugging at the leash , tail wagging and chittering in anticipation of the fight. Even if she wouldn't last a minute. With people despite her past she is a little standoffish but sweet and will stand patiently to be petted by women and children in particular. Around the house she is a couch potato and happiest when sleeping next to me while I work, one paw or her head on my lap. I think if I had have had her from a pup she would be a better balanced dog and a fine example of the Staffords from the early days of the breed. Your also right owning a game dog can be lonely.

You talk about today's staffys not looking like their fore fathers!...Well that's because they Are Not Supposed too! If You breed for "PERFORMANCE" and Not Look "Standards"...you will have alot of Variations!! You Dont want your Dog to Look exactly Like your Buddy's! I'll take a Cow-hocked, Cross-eyed Dog that will Work a Hog or Dispatch a Badger Like Nobody's Business...Rather than a Silked Coated Poser that won't take hold and turns when it's time to go to.work!!!

All these dog breeders exploiting the animals for money...get a job. People should only breed to continue and protect the breed. I would like a female from STEADFAST and get a male from Staffordshire, England as I think there is a strain of pitbull in the STEADFAST dog...not a bad thing, but I want to see the traditional Staffordshire in prime form.

Breeding good dogs is a job. I say just as many sub par dogs come from hobbyists than people who are considered puppy mills. Then hobbyists will charge thousands more for dogs because they only breed once a year or every other year. I find no issue in the business of breeding dogs if done right by consumers and the animals. This anti free market stance that’s rampant in the pet world seems to perpetuated by animal rights folks. If we truly logically looked at what it takes to have access good dogs it takes more than hobbyists breeding a couple litters in a decade.

How do you determine who gets interviewed? I'm curious. Long time Stafford guy here and would love to see quite a few others that have been in the breed quite a while with a documented record of success with Staffords in a few disciplines.. Two of the most knowledgeable Stafford people have passed on but I can think of a few more.

Send me names and links and I’ll do my best to research and contact them. My criteria is that I go off word of mouth of others way more knowledgeable then I am. The only wats I don’t interview someone is if they don’t run a yard with the love of the animal first or do bad business with people. I’ve made mistakes in the past but I limit those types of mistakes now. Please feel free to send me all the links and ideas you have. Love to work on getting more quality people on.
