You might want to put in a two-by-four wrapped in Rope for a perch. They want to stand on the wide side with their feet pretty flat and the rope keeps bumblefoot from setting in if they get any cuts on the bottom of their feet in your rocky soil. The rope is a cushion and allows oxygen all around their feet. (Which is maybe a bigger deal here in the humid South of the US but good advice nonetheless.). Those guys are garden gold. Even with all that space, you do want to rotate them with paddocks that have shade and cover or they will find one spot they love and make it a moonscape. They are the best little pets though, you will love them.

Thanks for sharing the price. I’ve been looking in small towns in central Algarve and the prices seemed a bit high for properties in similar size and condition. This gives me a better idea of the”real” prices. Having you work as a team will make the work go quicker and less expensive. Yay for the hens! I think the spot beside the caravan is ideal for them!

@@antoniodasilva1230 Yes Antonio. That's why the building process intrigues me so. Milton Hershey was in love with Spanish style architecture and used clay/terra cotta tile on many of the buildings in Hershey. I've seen some the structures repaired and would more detail on how the system works in the dryer/hotter climate of Portugal.

Also kept hens, made big mistakes...btw, plant Lucerne, it's tough and hens love the fresh greens. All your veggie bits...love a lettuce, whole to peck into. Also collect fine shell shale from beach they peck at that. Water in shade at all times. In fact the hen house must def not be in sun...cruel. All the best.
