My dad died in my arms of a massive heart attack the day after my mom died. He couldn't live without her. That was back in 2001 and it marked me. I know I'll see them in heaven one day, but I still miss them so much. I can't watch this video without a lot of tears. It's beautiful.

James wanted this to be 100% real and authentic. This was the first time he'd sung it to his dad, who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and was not expected to survive, although they did eventually find a donor and he made it. Both James and his dad are former officers in the British military. First time I heard this was 3 days after my Dad passed away and it broke me I lost my Dad 5 years ago this August after he fell and hit his head sadly he didn't survive it caused a bleed on his brain I sadly never had the chance to tell him I loved him and that hurts but i know he is at peace now.

My father died two weeks after an airline mistake allowed me to stop overnight to see him at the nursing home; he needed 24 hour care. The last words my father spoke to me were, "I've always loved you". I could not be there for him when he needed me but somehow this song makes me feel better for he and I talked like two men for hours that day; I was so very lucky in that it was one of his good days. Thank you for this so very much.

This song of James Blunt’s, “Monsters” was a heartfelt tribute to his father. The emotional track reflects the deep bond between them and a touching farewell. In the music video for “Monsters,” James Blunt sings directly to the camera, his eyes welling up with tears...The video is so powerful because sitting beside James Blunt is his real-life dad, Colonel Charles Blount. who was a former cavalry officer, & battling stage 4 chronic kidney disease. The song captures the raw emotions of facing mortality and saying the things one wants to say to a loved one before it’s too late 💗 I can never get through this, without crying..........

James Blunt is a much derided singer here in the UK following on from his first smash hit "You're Beautiful", he has largely risen above this by displaying a wonderful, self mocking, sense of humour and, yes, being a damned fine song writer and performer. Both James and his father were serving officers in the British military, so it must have taken a high degree of courage to put such raw emotion on display in this video, especially coming from such a macho environment as the army. Another highly charged official video is "No Bravery", especially so with the horrors going on in the Middle East currently. This video is a record of his experience as an officer deployed in the Balkan War, some years ago now, it really is a devastating watch and you can almost see in James' eyes that he's re-living some of the atrocities he must have witnessed in that bloody conflict. How the hell he gets through the song without breaking down, I'll never know but, whatever, it's a Must Watch. KZbin link kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZmXYoqumt9shqc

Lost my dad when I was 17, I’m 47 now. He’d been I’ll, but sort of recovering. Kissed him on the forehead as I headed out for school, got the usually grunt as it was early . That was the last time I saw him alive, came home to an empty house. First time I’ve seen this, and has brought tears to my eyes. If you haven’t said it for while , say it now. You never know when………..

The first time I heard this song was a few months after my father passed. Although we didn't see eye-to-eye on many things and our relationship was often strained, we grew closer in the years after my mom passed. Unfortunately, he died during the "pandemic" and I wasn't able to be with him at the end because of the nonsensical /inhumane covid restrictions put in place. Subsequently, I became very bitter and refused to let myself process the tremendous loss and associated grief...until I heard this song. Then the floodgates opened wide and I wept like I had never done before, for days afterwards. Thank you James...I believe you saved my life by helping me feel what I needed to feel and getting closure on this very difficult time.

For many of us, we never had the chance to say goodbye to our father or mother because of a devastating heart failure or an accidental death… this is what my family had to deal with 2 years in a row, first our father and then our mother. Watching this video makes me realise how hard it must be to see our father or mother going away slowly because of sickness but how courageous are these people to evolve around a known fatality. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. The lyrics are so powerful and true.

James is so good at these sad songs, and I think a large part of it is how honest he is about them. Obviously I dont know the guy but from what little Ive read, most if not all of these songs are based on real events in his life and to a certain extent they are a form of therapy for him. I guess we all have tragic events in our lives, but to be willing and able to put some of the hardest moments in your life on public display like this takes a special kind of courage. I would also recommend Goodbye my lover, No bravery, Carry you home and The girl that never was. Tissues on standby. Although I must point out, contrary to popular belief, he does have a few happier songs too.

Surprised there are no reactions to Jacob Collier who's a master of so many things but certainly vocal precision, range and phrasing with different ways to be bright or dark. "Moon River" has microntonal changes and is a good start but his version of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" just came out and he doesn't even sing any lead on that one. Yebba, John Legend and Tori Kelly do. If you want to see him play instruments then try All Night Long or Hideaway. As for stage presence confidence... you should see his live concert improvised songs and crowd work. Phenomenal.

I have seen it mentioned on other reactions to this that when James or his dad were being deployed, they would say goodbye just like the chorus. “We’re just two grown men saying goodbye.” It helped them manage the emotions of that time. When I found that out the song became even more special. Ironically, it’s this song that saved his life. A distant cousin saw it thanks to all the media coverage, got tested and it was a match. James’ father is now doing well.

Crying and almost forgetting you are a stage presence coach only shows your humanity. If you are lucky enough to still have a living father, call him, tell him you love him, thank him for all he’s done, hug him before the time is gone.

When it comes to stage-presence, you should really really do "FOCUS : HOCUSPOCUS" Live Midnight Special 1973 (must be this version).

I love this song, barely know my dad to. I think the sadness is just wanting a relationship like this.

😍😍😍 It's been a year since you reacted to probably only one or 2 songs from Gigi de Lana. I wish you would react to her and give us pointers of her performance specially her cover of Sam Smith's Unholy and also her renditions of Fly Me to the Moon and Better Days. Thanks
