First saw Floyd live when I was 15 in 1977. In a big ass stadium that is no longer standing. In another stadium in 1988 and 1994 with the largest crowds they ever played in front of in North America. Life altering events they were. Gorgeous weather everytime. Plus a handful of arena performances over the years. No band ever effected me like they did. Saw Roger Waters and also Nick Mason last year. I will keep going as long as they do.

Imagine Dave jammin with Victor Wooten (if you haven't heard him playing Amazing Grace, it is a must see, playing harmonics and melody at the same time on a bass).

And not just PF either... all of the great musicians from the '60s to the '80s just kept putting out innovative and creative sounds at a frantic pace. Like you said, it's just the way it was and we took it for granted. Only in retrospect can we wonder if all those artists decided to be born during that time to inject the world with a musical explosion that has now since faded. The young people say I don't give their music enough of a chance. So I really try to listen to it and it just doesn't compare. Not even close. What they don't realize is that when you've grown up with the best music, everything else is just auto-tuned monotonous noise by comparison. Sort of like living in a world of colour and suddenly being thrust into B&W. I often wonder if the colour will ever return...
@ClandOp

@@islandseeker1260 The music industry has changed completely, with much more of a focus on individuals than on bands. Remember when you had to sit in your car in the driveway because the tracks on the radio were actually 6-7 minutes long and so good you couldn't shut off the engine? There are, however, some notable exceptions to the general mediocre music produced today. If you don't know her, check out Angelina Jordan -- believe me, no autotune required. Also, Aurora is exceptional.

When I saw them live, I got in line outside the store at 3:00 AM to get tickets. Was first in line, got 7th row center stage. I knew I was seeing something special. I got tickets for both days at the Sliverdome. One of the days was a very rare concert where they played the dark side in its entirety in one concert. It was not a concert, it was a spiritual event.

Best concert story ever or close. Good for you. I got similar seats to Rush in Portland Rose Quarter venue/stadium - I forget what they called it :) Seats isn't so accurate either, because they were stools to stand on from the start. Seems living your best life involves getting into places you can live a best life. Like up front seventh row. Where you might catch a drumstick from Neil Peart. That kind of thing.

@@arightscepter When I saw Rush for the first time live back in HS (Hold Your Fire tour I believe, at least that was the album being promoted at the time with Amy Mann guesting on Time Stand Still), the venue I saw them at was standing room only. I somehow managed to be fast enough to get literally front stage left (nearly right in front of Alex). I was getting pressed up against the solid barrier for much of the show which was uncomfortable, but getting one of Alex's picks made it worth it. I suspect it was due to the design of the album cover, but Alex was using those little disks from disk guns as a pick and it was red just like the shapes on the album cover. I have in my safe deposit box with my Ricky Henderson and Emmitt Smith rookie cards to this day.

When music was created, not just played. The words, the rythym, the composition, every part deliberate and set to evoke an emotion. It is the difference between a simple jam session and a masterpiece composition. If Pink Floyd had never existed, the world would be a much darker place. ETA: I think we need not worry about their stage presence. :)

WE were given much more than we deserved over the course of our teenage years and the music was the backdrop to a life of joy and peace. We wanted for nothing in our middle class English world, a world now just a beautiful memory. For me there is no higher art form than music and Pink Floyd was one of the pinnacles of the art at that time. This is timeless, like Beethoven or Bach, and when we are just cosmic dust the "echoes" of a distant time will still come billowing across the land.
