This groove is proof that programmed drums will never be able to fully replace humans!

Carter! As always, you bring the best of your drumming soul and each drum's voicing is heard so distinctively. I always love the way you tune your various kits. When played they are a collective of beautiful sounds!! Keep up the great work. You always inspire my playing. Thanks so much!!

What a difference! That was a major transformation from the sound you started with to the final sound. Thanks for demonstrating that for us. :)

Delicious. Complete image of the kit with 2 mics.... Unreal.

Man, that cymbal over the hats with what looks like an Xist Ion Splash on top stacked... I could listen to just that sound on repeat! Just such a great mix (to my ears anyway) of trashiness and definition. Doesn't hurt that it is being played by a truly amazing drummer. Great video, Carter!

I had a quick read: the Stager product descriptions indicate that the SR-1A or SR-2N would be better for drums. But of course Carter knows what he’s doing, and here the kit captured with the SR-5 sounds so good! And as always, such tasty playing. Nice!

Any studio quality microphone can be used on drum kit, particularly placed at a distance where the sound pressure is less of a problem. I am not a jazz drummer, so I can't use the coles ribbons as overheads playing at forte let alone forte fortissimo. They distort.

Wonderful, man. Funny, I've been playing with a piccolo in that position for a little while now. Such an inspiring tonal option to introduce to the setup. Sounds great as always!

Who cares about the mic... he's got *three snares*

Seeing those stacked drums and leaning cymbals behind him, I'm betting that he has more than three snares 😉

Maybe someone can help me as I swear i remember seeing that Carter did or offers lessons on how he tunes his kits? Because damn this is how drums should sound

It was taken off the youtube a while back.

Think there’s some courses on his site. Great teacher & amazing player 👌🏽🥁

How drums should be sounds depends of many things, the room , the type of wood, the genre someone plays so at Metal and Jazz the sound is huge different, the heads ! The tuning at the most sequences is low at Jazz ,low is the first total rods tighten level that gives note sound.
@StinsonTango3 жыл бұрын
Yooo cheers for the replies guys!! I usually tune my drums close to the type of sound Carter goes for, but theres something about the tone he seems to get out of them (which obviously is somewhat down to his playing) but his tunings have always stuck out to me

I recommend the channel "Sounds Like a Drum" here on youtube for everything tuning related. They cover a lot of different techniques for different genres and they talk about creativity and applications too

Sounds good here; but, Bs. drum levels are generally too hot in many KZbin recordings.

Hey Carter! What is that piccolo you have in front? I know you're a Ludwig guy, but those lugs remind me of an older Tama?
@lukefreeman9703 жыл бұрын
That’s a jazz combo from the 60s. Tama did similar things, different lugs, but similar, in the late 80s and up

Been playing metal drumming for almost 30 years. I am probably faster than Carter and can play double bass and all sorts of impressive shit. But I`m in no way near to Carter's soft touch! lol
@danwebd44813 жыл бұрын
but Carter can or will not play double bass... I bet he's practising on it !
