The fact that there are two beautiful women standing in front of a crowd of metal heads, fully dressed and ready to metal as goddesses, singing such a beautiful classic song, is just mind blowing.

Good reaction. I think it's a testament to the maturity of the metal community and their appreciation for good music that a stadium full of metal heads calms down, listens to, and appreciates a 13th century hymn performed beautifully.

2 friends on stage, a beautiful orchestra and a music hall full with metalheads, who love it. Now...try that at a rap, hiphop, R&B or popconcert ;) Metal and classical music go hand in hand. I was classical trained, but love to play and sing metal. It combines so well, because both genres combine feelings/emotions and are way more complicated and challenging to play or sing. Holland is a symphonic metal country who brought us many awesome female singers. Simone and FLOOOOOOR ofcourse, but don't forget Anneke from Within Temptation, the mother of classical trained female metal singers. A lot of my friends (metal lovers) love to listen to classical music as well. Again...they go so well together.

People sometimes remark it's surprising that the audience respects quiet or classical style pieces or parts - but that's part of prog rock, it's part of symphonic, it's part of jazz, it's part of folk, of metal too where every band had a ballad, it's in all the musical styles that come together to make symphonic.. There's a Chopin piano etude in the middle of Lovebites shows too. Miyako plays piano perfectly. One has to wonder instead why audiences for other types of music are DISrespectful.

@phillee28143 жыл бұрын
Both Simone and Floor are natural sopranos, so to me, it is far more impressive that Floor sings the alto part, which really shows her tremendous tonal range in a clean, clear voice, from the full range of alto right up to at least F6, and if some are to be believed (Like Elizabeth Zharoff, who certainly should now what she's talking about) there is more above that. Floor seems to avoid stretching right to her limits in live performance, as she has to do it night after night, often after flights, and not knowing in advance (thinking of touring for a year or more) how healthy she will be for each performance - in Bogata, for example, on the Decades tour, she was suffering from flu, but still put in what for anyone else would be an outstanding performance. Only those who know how good she can sound could detect any difference, but she could barely talk before or after the show.

@@jaapblaauw3735 I'm in no way belittling Simone's undoubted talent or her performance in this, but you stated she was singing the soprano part which is both her and Floor's natural register, and therefore the one which would be easiest for either of them.

@@yvonnecampbell7036 OK, I've checked and no version by Mozart. The best-known names I can see that have composed music for this hymn I can find include Sances, Vivaldi, Both Domenico and Alessandro Scarlatti, Pergolesi (this one, and it is the best known, from 1736 - and the 15th version listed by date), Haydn, Franz Schubert (two different versions), Rossini, Liszt, Dvorak, Verdi, and lots more in the entry on Wikipedia, although it says it includes the 56 is has listed, so presumably, there are more. I'm sure if Mozart, Handel, Brahms, Beethoven, or a number of other greats had been among them they would have been mentioned though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stabat_Mater#Musical_settings is the list they know of. I do know that there are earlier unsigned manuscripts, including the earliest, which has musical notation, in a Dominican Nunnery in Bologna which had already been incorporated into their Gradual and set to music, which casts doubt on the claims by Jacopone da Todi OFM, to whom it had previously been ascribed - that version, although contemporary with the Dominican one, is not notated for music, so the Dominican one must be a transcript of an even earlier work.

@@yvonnecampbell7036 No problem - I used to regularly play this piece (This arrangement by Pergolesi) as lead violin in the music school orchestra where I was a moderate student (I suppose my teachers must have had a decent opinion of my playing for me to be leading the orchestra), so know it very well - the vocal part was in the syllabus for singers, so we had to play it for them as an accompaniment for their practices pretty frequently, and in concert a few times. I wish I could still play, but arthritis makes it impossible, although at least my treatment got me moved up the vaccination schedule - a silver lining, I guess. Stay safe ;)
