Groff is so good as King George III that he scored a Tony nomination with only 9 minutes of stage time doing basically one song (his other two songs have the same melody as this one) 👑

A hilarious little bit of trivia on this song: You can thank Hugh Laurie for this song's existence as it is. LMM was in the middle of writing Hamilton when he took a short role on the show "House M.D." (Great show, btw. Watch it if you can find it.) According to LMM, he was talking to Hugh Laurie (who played House) about how he was trying to write something like a breakup song from the King of England to the Colonies when they left. Apparently, Hugh Laurie jokingly did a little saucy, kingly parody and said, "Oh, you'll be back." And thus, this song was born.

I first saw Johnathan on the TV series Glee. He works a lot with the star of the show, Lea Michele. They sang Rollin’ in the Deep. On the show and they were amazing. He’s just become better and better as time goes by. I’m so happy for his success. Hamilton peeps will hate me for this, but it’s actually my favorite song and was well placed as the first part of the musical was sooo rap-amazing. This was a great way to end the first half. 🎶🎶🎶

I know nothing about theater or singing, Groffsauce's performance made me wonder if it's easier to perform alone or together with other singers. I know it probably depends, i just wonder if for example it's easier to focus on your own singing when you are alone especially if you don't have to also dance, but i understand it would be taxing because you are carrying the whole performance.

Random recommendation for reaction, You should check out the songs from Julie and the phantoms, it’s a show on Netflix that I would highly recommend which is directed by Kenny Ortega. The music is incredible and the actors are really talented musicians. All of the cast play their own instruments, and at the time of filming Maddison (Julie) was only 15, and the lads were 19, 21 and 22. (Plus Madi and Charlie - who plays Luke - wrote Perfect harmony themselves) One thing I would recommend is watching the trailer for the show before you react to the music videos otherwise you might be slightly confused about the storyline and what’s happening in the videos. (I mean I will always recommend watching the entirety of the show, and then reacting to the music videos so you can give a more in-depth analysis without being distracted by investment/confusion in the story, but if you don’t want to watch the entire show or react to the entire show you could probably get away with just reacting to the music videos and maybe watching the trailer for context)

I'd have to either ask my wife or turn on her piano but I think you got the right progression but may have been off half a step. Still pleasing since it was just out of context. I can't really sing but I have a good ear and when I do sing I go (to her accusation) a 5th below. I'll take that as a compliment. Nice video.

so a strange thing, i had just watched the music video michael buble "i just haven't met you yet" (just a random thing that popped into my mind) and then youtube suggested this "you'll be back" (never saw hamilton or any related videos until now). and both tunes felt kinda similar to me. i assumed youtube matched title words but does it also scan audio and look for similar things? (i'm not a music person so i don't know if these things really are very similar, and..i do have a thing with recognizing faces, so this might all be just an oddness of perception on my part)

Here are the two reprises: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4O8pp6jl8ZojMk kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHLKqKKChJWGY5Y Something unrelated is driving me absolutely crazy. Do you know much about the science of music--how certain specific things can affect us emotionally? I can't find an answer to my issue anywhere.
@SSTVocalCoach
@SSTVocalCoach 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a really interesting question! We know that music affects the brain, and it’s perceived as a kind of language on its own (hence why happy/sad/angry instrumental music is understood as such). Music is also subjective as an art form. What’s good to you is terrible to someone else, and that’s down to personal taste, culture, memories etc etc. So when we listen to music, all of these factors come into play while listening, and as we make sense of what we’re hearing, lots of parts of the brain are sparking with activity, memories, emotions, understanding etc and we get an individual reaction. Sound can affect more than just the brain though. At certain frequencies, we can affect the body! For example, 2-4kz is the resonant frequency of the ear canal, so things will sound louder at these frequencies, whether the volume is high or not. 19kz will make your eyes go funny because that’s the resonant frequency of the eyeball! It’s mad! I hope this answered your question!

@@SSTVocalCoach Thank you so much--that's really interesting. Since childhood, music has affected me emotionally for various reasons, but the issue at hand is very specific. I was reminded of this the other day when I heard an old song being played at Walmart. After an exhaustive search, I finally located this old Andy Gibb song last night. The song itself means absolutely nothing to me, but there's something about some of the notes/chords in the chorus that make me cry. I start out just getting a little teary-eyed, but by the end of the song I'm in full-on boo-hoo. 😭 It's crazy because now, just thinking about it chokes me up. There are a couple other songs that (to a lesser degree) do the same thing to me. In this great old song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpzFmJ2jotdorNk The part (and its repetitions) that gets me is @ 0:47 on that video. To be fair, though, the part @ 1:26 IS sad. The other one is kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWLGqniIjrVpqqc, where the part that gets to me is around 2:27. Again, nothing to do with the song itself. The original song in question is kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2qzaJSOedV9d5o and I get emotional about 0:49 (and over & over throughout the song). I just don't get it. Can you find anything these parts of different songs might have in common? Just for kicks, I looked up whether or not certain chord progressions can make you cry and lo and behold-it's a real thing! None of what I read made any sense, so I'm hoping you can explain.

Let’s face it the entire score and book and subsequently it is all a mish mash of styles and no one really is on point on pitch/ supported or have any stable proper resonance. None of this show is “normal”. In fact the entire take in history is entirely mixed up and innacurate. In cabaret everything a person does seems inspired and dominant. This entire show is in that approach. That is why people enjoy this show because it is a cabaret. It’s not really a normal unified musical with an actual script or focus. End scene.
