I love watching the staining videos. I know you did a lot of them but the truth is they are all one of a kind . The first never looks like the last or any in-between. Thanks Big D!🎸

I watched many of your video where you stain a guitar body, especially with gradient. They have been a point of reference on building some guitars from scratch with my hands.

Super job and great work in blending those colours to get the best you could with the book match issue you talked about. Shame about the binding work which looks like it was not done with the same level of care and attention that you apply to your own work - but that's why you have a following! Cheers for sharing, Paul in the UK.

Do you apply anything after the sanding sealer or is that enough? I’m working through my own guitar kit and want that matte finish
@mvyperАй бұрын
Mat varnish. Either sprayed or rubbed in.
@DavidRoyse6 ай бұрын
This looks absolutely amazing - is this steel wool you're using at 6.27 to dull the finish down? Would you recommend this over sanding at this stage & why if so? Apologies if this is covered elsewhere.

For anyone using these dyes from Angelus, I haven’t been able to find something that you can brush/wipe on without it pulling up and reactivating the dye. Tried Varathane sanding sealer and their clear lacquer on test strips with Angelus dye…both resulting in the dye moving around or lifting onto the brush. I’m assuming the only option is spraying sanding sealer like he is in the video. Anyone have any success with another product?

That came out absolutely fantastic!! Great work! 🙌🏻🎸🔥

My Angelus dye bled onto the binding as well... I thought it was because I put boiled linseed oil on top, (which really ruined the color) but it seems as if it can bleed without the oil.

Hi, beautiful guitar!; I want to know if the Angelous leather stain is the standard acrylic one or the one for suede leather, they are very different colors. Lorenzo from Italy

Derek, watching your dye stain videos has inspired me to give it a go on a project I'm working on, but I've a question for you; how long do the Angelus alcohol-based dyes take to dry completely? I'm planning to try a burst on a maple neck, and I've given them a trial on some scrap maple, but even after 5 days or so I'm still getting colour coming out when I wipe the wood with some kitchen roll.

Awesome job! It’s so cool to see the figuring on the maple top stand out like that. I’m interested to know where the customer got the guitar body from.

The binding issue. It could be the composition of the binding plastic reacting with the ink. I've seen binging "melting" because someone used alcohol to clean it. Angelus inks aren't water based right? Anyways those colors looks stunning. 👍

Beautiful! But I can't help but feel like the end product isn't what the customer wanted if they wanted the example picture. Although beautiful the guitar was more of a sunburst instead of the more uniform soft brown and yellow of the example picture. The body color should be continued much closer to the edges and maybe a bit more orange/brown? I hope they loved the result because I sure do. I'm just nitpickin and curious what the client thinks 😅
