Be sure to purchase a 200w or greater micro lathe. Less powerful models will give a lot more difficulty when filing and sanding. What guideline do you use for when to switch grits of sandpaper other than waiting to use the fine when band has been smoothed?

Sand until you aren't getting a smoother finish, then change to the next grit and keep repeating until you reach the finest grit you have.

How did you get the ring stretcher mounted on the lathe? Just bought one of these lathes, trying to make it work for turning wood rings. At 1 minute in, when you talk about the stretcher, I can see that there's something in the chuck of the lathe, but can't tell what.

I'm asking if this mini lathe chunk can open enough to hold the mandrel normal way. I have order this lathe and I would like to know this till I receive it. Thank you
