Very heart touching movie, I didn't say a single word until I finished the movie. I felt as if I knew everyone of the them. There is nothing worst than knowing your death, but sometimes death is the only way out. I am not Russian nor German, however, I learned that people treat each other so badly. It does not mean that I didn't know this before; this movie took it to another level. Some people will say this is propaganda, or Americans will not like it. Honestly, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. What I am saying is life is like a box of chocolate, watch the movie then say what you have to say.

Watched this last night in 3D, was an amazing movie!!! A few scenes had my jaw literally drop! The acting was amazing, and the effects were second to none so far this year! One note though, it is subtitled as the actors speak Russian and German. I had no complaints over this as I felt it added to the authenticity! A definite must see!

For all of you in the comments arguing about how Russia has portrayed themselves in this movie I am going to say something that may shock you; the Allied Powers would have lost the war if it weren't for the Soviet Union. Just looking at the numbers the Red Army was at any given time facing up to 90% of all Wehrmacht forces. The landings in Normandy were meant to draw off enough of the German forces in the East so the Soviets could gain the upper hand. I am not disputing that the Soviets didn't do terrible things in their history but, what I am saying is that there is no way they can overstate how important they were to defeating Nazi Germany.

Just saw this movie... I must say it was pretty good in my opinion... I don't like comparing it to any other movie and would like to take this movie as it is to be fair... But what I could say is... despite this being a Russian produced film... it was fair to blur the lines between which one was good and which one was bad... In this movie... they did a great job in making you sympathize for both Germans and Russians which I applaud so much about. Most Hollywood WWII movies glorify only one side of the story... this on the other hand had me rooting for both sides... Good Movie! :)

People say "America won the war" people say "The soviets won the war." People really need to take all the lives lost, all nations that participated in the war and really give them credit. They were human, just like you and I, they had lives and a family. Think about it, Russian, German, American, British, Japan and all the other countries that were defending their way of life. At the time every one thought they were doing one thing, defending their homeland. Russia thought that, Germany thought that, America thought that, Japan thought that, Britain thought that, every country thought they were defending their homeland. It was for their survival. May all the lives lost in WW2 never be forgotten. R.I.P

Erick Vollmer "if"? Are you implying Nazi's weren't bad people and weren't defeated? and why would the Russians need to be checked? WWII's 3 enemy dictators were Hitler(Germany), Mousalini(Italy), and Prime Ministers,(Japan/there were several during WWII. I don't recall which was the primary instigator, but all stayed the course.) Further more, trying to say the Russians deserved to be checked big time is just an example of HISTORY deciding who's right and wrong. NOT the latter. There are geo-political factors that pit countries against each other all the time without either side being any true form of good or evil.

This was the most horrific battle in the most horrific conflict in human history. Imagine being stuck in this seiged city for three years as this waged on. Imagine you're in the red army partnered with another man; he recieves a rifle, you recieve five rounds of ammunition. You are told in the likely even that he is killed, you will then take up his gun and it will then be yours, until then you work with him and survive and keep on the lookout for any munitions you can possibly use. Imagine starving. Imagine stripping old NEP era houses of their wallpaper to boil the starch out of to make a watery potatoe soup to survive off of. Imagine setting traps for mangery, undernourished rats so that you can make yourself a stew and eat meat for the first time in months. That's the reality the brave men of the soviet Red Army faced in places like Stalingrad and Leningrad. Unimaginable to most of us today, especially in the west. American civilians have not truly known the horrors of war since 1865 when they turned inward on themselves. War is hell for everyone, but civillians always seem to get it the worst. Soldiers can fight back with a chance of living, civilians have to bet on bad odds to survive. Horrible. Cheers and thanks from a yank to any veteran of the Soviet 40th army who helped defend the world and eliminate the nazi threat. The USSR's immense losses in the war must never be forgotten.

This was the first large scale battle that were fought in the narrow streets of a city amongst the rubble caused from buildings destroyed by heavy artillery and air raids. The Russians here were just starting to learn more and more about how to tackle the smart and mighty Nazi army that had been so so succesful in their Blitzkrieg tactic of conquering the whole western side of Russia upto the suburbs of Moscow. Stalingrad was located at the banks of a river and was held by the Nazis while the Russians had to cross the river and encircle the Germans with another army from the north, which forced both sides with no way out. The Russians would later force the German front back but in the meantime the parties in Stalingrad were forced to fight in a cage. Both sides were not used to this kind of fighting in the narrow city streets but the soldier that would win this battle was the ruthless, cunning and merciless soldier which was exactly what a Russian was. Those Russians who survived this battle would go on to lead the Soviets in the Battle of Berlin.

Im always sceptical with trailers that don't show a word of dialogue. It seems the tone they have gone for is a very somber one, very academy award winning, which makes the acting essential, but difficult to pull off as the tone is very specific. 0 Dialogue could mean the movie failed in that regard.
