18 minutes in but I have to mention, Australian here! It’s actually normal for police to say these things to you. DV and Violence towards women has skyrocketed over the last 3 years, and a very big part to play in this is how Australian Police don’t take your concerns seriously, and often will say to you they cannot do anything until something more extreme warrants it.
@annaromkey82914 сағат бұрын
Gosh, that's so scary... It's similar in Canada tbh. They just look at you and shrug saying "tell us when he acts on something", and I just don't understand how any criminal justice system can operate this way when it's so statistically clear that men like this are inherently dangerous.

@kittikat23188 сағат бұрын
Genuinely asking-but in the US, if our local/city police don’t want to take a report, we can go to the county (sheriffs). If they don’t care, we could then try for the state police. Or the state’s federal agencies (like the Colorado Bureau of Investigations), maybe even FBI-also federal but m for over state lines or multi state crimes. If your local police station won’t help, where else can you go? Can you report to other agencies? I think I’ll get a better answer here than if I Google it. 🤷🏻♀️

I went and looked this up and honestly, infuriated by the judge's response. Apparently she admitted his prospects for rehabilitation were extremely limited, that he showed no remorse, that he clearly was aware of what he had done... but on the very slim chance he MIGHT be rehabilitated she didn't want to take that chance away. When he already stole HERS away, she wanted him to have the chance to live his life. Awful.

sadly not all the time. i've an ex who i broke up with 14 years ago. he still send me messages, stalks me on multiple social media platforms, and tries to add my friends on them as well, as a way to get to me. ive closed my social media, and on others i use a fake name. Police wont do anything, as its only messages and not regular enough to be considered harassment/threatening. This is a man who emotionally/physically/financially abused me for 2 years. after we broke up i didn't go anywhere on my own for 4 years. i'm lucky i have a strong support group around me and can cope with this, but others aren't as fortunate and this type of thing can cause them to constantly be stuck in a bad place because of an ex.

I actually worked for the same company (but at a different site to Celeste). And yes, there was an expectation for us team leaders to walk out our staff who had either resigned or were fired. We didn’t have security guards onsite and there were multiple situations that team leaders would have to de-escalate themselves. I personally (as a 24 year old female) had a 60+ year old male yell and swear and throw things at me on one of these walk outs. I knew a lot of people who had worked with Celeste and to say they were devastated was an understatement. Unfortunately, this behavior almost always comes from someone you know, even if it’s someone you don’t know well. Even in this case, she barely knew the guy, but that in person interaction at their work was enough for him to start doing this. It’s more likely to come from a friend of a friend or someone you’ve come across a few times than to come from a stranger. And it’s more likely to come from a current or former partner. Most violent crimes and sex crimes are the same way. It isn’t a creepy stranger we all need to look out for, it’s a trusted family friend who gets a little too attached, or a controlling boyfriend, or a friend who freaks out after they don’t get exactly what they want, or an acquaintance who gets too attached. We can’t just hope to avoid awful people, we need to have the skills to recognize signs of a problem before things get dangerous.

When the judge spewed that bullshit from her mouth..my god. Absolutely unbelievable. Her poor mom, you can see the pain and anguish she feels, she’s beyond broken and my heart hurts so bad for her. I just can’t wrap my head around this one.

It’s a shame sentencing isn’t done more like in America! Here in the UK it’s not unusual for ‘life’ to mean 20-25 years. It needs to change for people like this!
@vanessacairns28058 сағат бұрын
Technically “life” in Australia is 20 years. However, many judges now place a higher number of years of sentencing before allowing parole

Guys, and girls, no means no. No is not an invitation. I can’t believe the length some individuals will go. Its psychotic. The fact that not even in her daughters death, momma couldn’t even read her thoughts. These last thoughts should be absolutely unfiltered. That’s the LEAST that should be allowed.

Australia has to have the most lenient and embarrassing excuse for a justice system out of everywhere. I live here, and this sentence sadly is no surprise to me. I am currently attending a sentencing trial for a loved one who was killed and we have all already been prepared that the person responsible will serve the most minimum sentence imaginable for taking 3 lives. Completely at a loss as to how to help make change in such a broken system.

I am a woman in Australia. Please please please do more women's stories from Australia 🇦🇺 to expose what is happening over here. 1 woman a week is dying in Australia, but our government CONTINUES to say the system isn't broken 'NOT TRUE'. That police response is the general response, so women continue to die 😢 It might surprise you that 30 years in prison is actually a high sentence in Australia Please do more stories. THANK YOU ❤
@alexduff62646 сағат бұрын
Unfortunately that seems like a long sentence here in Australia for murder😢 Our sentencing is absolutely atrocious!

This is another sad case where our justice system (and judges specifically) are one of our biggest problems. Cops can charge and arrest people but they'll end up out with a slap on the wrist, or "they had a rough life" or "they are mentally sick" only for them to continue their behaviour. Our country is failing horrifically on all DV fronts. Male victims are laughed at, and female victims are ridiculed and s**t shamed beyond belief. Then when murdered, there is an outpoor of rage with loud voices also going "what did she do" "why didn't she leave" "garuntee she was keeping him away from the kids and he snapped" ... our country has well and truly gone down the dang drain.

As an Aussie, I wish I could say this was and is a one off incident. But DV, stalking, SA and violence against women is just rife. And so little gets, seriously done. One of the worst cases in recent times was that of Hannah Clarke and her 3 gorgeous children. Murdered at the hands of her violent, abusive and controlling ex. The statistics are frightening. As a victim of both childhood SA, and then again in the workplace as an adult, who did try and report it to police, and was flippantly dismissed, I’m not surprised when these kind of tragic events happen, as often the victims are just not heard or never taken seriously enough. Thank you for covering this case Kendal. Absolutely love your content

Thank you for sharing such a devastating case about such an incredible woman. She’s from the same city as a lot of my friends so we have mutual friends and they continue to celebrate Celeste constantly. Everyone knows how beautiful, how intelligent and how great an impact she has had on the world. The police absolutely failed her and did nowhere near enough to protect her. All of my love goes out to Aggie and her family and friends - I don’t know how they are able to keep going 💛

The worse part of all of this is if the people who are getting harassed do something about the harassment they would get in trouble. Someone in my past harassed me and when I went to the police they did nothing. This person ended up braking into my home and tried to kill me and when the cops were called they told me “you could of avoided this by getting us involved” 😑😑😑

@@meowmachine9147 housing crisis is making it worse. IF you can get a rental property they are $600/wk plus. To buy a house is 700k minimum. A lot of people stuck in situations they literally can't leave unless they have family support or decide to live in their car or tent. There is no social housing... our building industry is also broken, so things won't be changing for a long time. It's a complete debacle.

thank you so much for covering an Australian case, this one happened right where I live, but there are thousands more of DV murders and random murders of women every year, and the government doesn't take it seriously. Even when the murderers have already been arrested for DV and the victims had already tried to ask for help. Thank you also for brining the petition to light and the call to email our government, I wasn't aware of either option before this video!!

another shocking Australian case was the murder of Mackenzie Anderson, at 21 years old. She had a restraining order against her ex partner and even though she called the police when he broke into her home, he was able to murder her in front of her three year old. SO horrific.

The justice system is SO messed up here, this year ALONE 94 women have been MURDERED. We need CHANGE and we need it NOW. Someone who helped transport NINETEEN year old Isla Bell's BODY IN A REFRIGERATOR AROUND MELBOURNE FOR A MONTH, HAS BEEN GRANTED BAIL. WE NEED JUSTICE FOR CELESTE, ISLA, AND ALL OTHER WOMEN WHO HAVE BEEN MURDERED IN THIS COUNTRY. REST IN PEACE TO ALL THE WOMEN WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES.

I’m currently being harassed, I don’t want to use the term stalked because it scares me, by my next door neighbour. I went to the police after I started receiving letters and consistent visits and they made me feel as if I was wasting time! Australia’s action towards women’s safety is appalling, Celeste deserved better we all deserve better.

Australian here! My best friend was harrassed and stalked by a male acquaintance. He found her house by driving around her neighbourhood until he found a house that matched the one that he saw in the background of a social media post. He would follow her and 'randomly' run into her at shops and restaurants. When she asked him to leave her alone he threatened to break into her house and slit his own throat in front of her young son. She left her house and stayed with friends for a few days. He ended up getting my phone number somehow demanding I tell him where she was. THE POLICE SAID SHE PROBABLY LEAD HIM ON! They wouldn't give her a restraining order because he never pysically touched her.
