It is technologicaly indeed very highend. What annoys me much is shiny, common, bezel part which is not nano coated. It looks weird. I would appreciate to have whole display area nano coated. But I can imagine, from other angle of view, it maybe a bit complicated to manufacture it. Maybe that was a problem ...

Ahh thank you! I’ve been trying to find someone that would talk about how the pencil feel on the nano texture is! I ordered one with that option just because I have high hopes for it. I didn’t need 1tb so it was quite the up-charge. As an illustrator I do 90% of my work on my iPad and I hate having to use screen protectors to improve the feel. Super helpful video!

Ikr, every youtuber is saying that it’s Apple’s brightest display ever, but iPhone 14 and 15 Pro/Max have higher brightness levels, even without tandem oled at 1000 sustained, 1600 for HDR, and 2000 outdoors, so I don’t get it

THANK YOU - you’re the first review that I’ve seen that has mentioned that the pencil feels better on the nano textured glass. This was my instinct for picking up that version. I wasn’t expecting a Paperlike experience but I figured there might be a good chance that it would beat the feel of traditional glossy. Excellent!!

Love your details about how it feels and showing the nano textured glass. Other reviewers talked about nano but just didn't really show it in comparison to the glossy version as well as you have. I had the steam deck oled with anti reflective coating and yes its awesome and yes I don't think it takes that much from OLED. I also have a g1 LG oled tv that is glossy and I am just so triggered by the reflections I see on It I instantly wanted that nano texture glass option on the new Ipad pro regardless of me being outdoors or not! The reflections just take way more from the display than the nano textured glass does with a ever so slightly muter less contrasty profile. I know many people over exaggerate the nerf from the anti reflective coating on oled because of how it looks on camera, especially from angles. But in person its more subtle and not bad at all.

Appreciate your perspective. I think the iPad's versatility is both a curse and blessing. It's such a good consuming device that the stigma of being a toilet Netflix not-Mac will never disappear, but so is its creative conductivity that are now enabling a new wave of pro workflow that set it apart from PC&MACs. Part of my workflow involves 3D scanning, complex modeling, 3D sculpting and I do those across both iPad Pro & Mac. The upgrade this year seems quite exciting. Modeling with 1000s of edges, constraints, objects is quite CPU & RAM heavy and on more complex projects my 8GB M1 is struggling to keep up. Also very excited about the Pencil Pro, pending developer updates but on 3D softwares I can see it be a game changer on pushing efficiencies even higher. Why not "just use a Mac"? A big screen is great for the whole picture and using multiple apps at once, and compatibility with pro input devices enable speedy editing, but when it comes to "putting the pen to paper", the Pencil really is unmatched in making the flow frictionless and I found that to be quite valuable. It's no different than why CAD ppl fork out $300 for a 3D mouse... It's also nice to work anywhere I wish, when multi-screen referencing are less of a must-have.

Quick update Day 1 with the 1TB M4: damn it's thin. Aluminum sure still is fragile but this makes the 15 pro max feel "heavier" in my hand. Some quick testing using the biggest model file I have, I'm seeing 40% faster loading vs. M1, and the same task on M1 that gets ~0.8s wait screen now completes instantly. In such complex project this happens a lot so it can easily add up. Jumping from M1, I'm also now discovering how good hovering is on supported app, really ups the accuracy and confidence on pixel-precise tasks like selecting items / surfaces.

If you disable “reduce whitepoint” in the settings, the screen gets way brighter at max brightness. if I remember correctly, reduce whitepoint is enabled by default on iPads and iPhones, possibly also MacBooks. This makes a huge difference when outdoors, and if you re-enable it, you can dim your screen even further than the normal minimum brightness for when using the device at night

The camera thing is funny for me - I don't care a ton about it but I want it to be there. If I'm doing a video call and want to flip the camera to show something or if I need to scan a document they're useful. For basically anything else I have no interest in the rear camera. The loss of the second module isn't a negative to me, but the loss of both absolutely would be.

The current pro iPhones actually have better displays in terms of brightness, same 1000 nit sustained and 1600 bit HDR peak brightness. What’s more they turn up to 2000 nit outdoor which the new iPads pro can’t. But tandem OLED will surely have longer lifespan and lower risk of burn in, amongst other advantages.

Tyler, Good point comparing it to crazy overpriced camera monitors like SmallHD, but then you completely missed the fact that brightness wasn’t increased from previous couple of gens, only the underlying tech (from miniLED to OLED), it was the same 1000 nits of brightness typical, 1600 peak. You automatically assumed that it looked brighter to your eyes which it isn’t.. (one thing I’ll agree on for SDR videos it probably looks somewhat brighter, but you were looking at the settings, my man) Next you talked about this brightness upgrades trickling down to iPhone which already was that bright too! 😂 1000 typical, 1600 peak and even 2000 nots specifically for outdoor…

It’s the same. I wouldn’t care if everyone reviewed only the 11inch. What the difference besides screen size, weight and thickness?

i don’t know how on earth a Tech reviewer who has 400k sub will going to tell to his viewers that removing all the camera is ok for a slab that cost $3k max out with keyboard and pencil, that’s a lot of money, maybe your a multimillionaire that doesn’t care about what they pay for 🤦🏻‍♂️ and by the way I’m an apple fanboy who is in Apple ecosystem.

OLED technology is not the future of display technology mainly because of the old lead material decaying overtime and the risk of burning the future of display technology is called micro LED, which is an entire screen made up of microscopic LED pixels

Another review with the same bullet points as all the other reviews. Even the obligatory display technology video snippet from Apple - must be a contractual thing Apple insist on.

I'm also curious. Maybe the next iphone pro max will have an M3, followed by the next having an M4.. but until confirming that it's A18 pro

Apple needs a new CEO. Just combine the Macbook Pro and iPad. Mac software on iPad, and make larger sizes, like 16 inch and 18 inch. Make an iPhone with a stylus, 7 inch. Get rid of the walled garden, you are limiting your customer base, and revenue.

@@stalman I have Samsung but Apple has so much potential; it’s just lost its direction. It baffles me how one of the most valuable and cash rich companies can’t figure this out.

M4 has only 4 cores if you buy 1TB of storage or more. Typical Apple.

< 1TB: 3x performance cores w/ 6x efficiency cores. 1TB+: 4x performance cores w/ 6x efficiency cores. That MIA performance core could be a big bump. Benchmarks and some heavy-duty performance will (presumably) be different.
