What would you say against the p30(pro)? I own the p30 but I didnt realize how good the 3a camera is, p30 makes imho a little sharper details but the pictures have wierd coloring, making sometimes pictures looking artificial. What worries me with the pixel3a is the restperformance, as it has a weaker processor and "only" 4gb of ram

I bought a Pixel 3a a couple of days after they came out just to try it on my extra mobile line. I already have an iPhone XS Max for my main line. My first 3 smartphones were Android until I went with an iPhone 6s about 3-4 years ago. Plus I still have a Moto Droid Turbo II as a backup phone. I took it home and immediately started testing the camera. The two things I liked best about the Pixel camera right when I started using it was that if you tapped a subject the camera would track it if you moved the phone a bit to change the layout of the photo. iPhone does not do this at all. Second was that I found the Pixel 3a much easier to get macro shots no matter what you did with the XS Max. I find the XS does a poor job of macro compared to my Sony A7iii and one of my macro lenses. And this is either using the standard camera app or the Lightroom app in auto or manual focus. On the other hand I found the google system for getting photos off the 3a phone or out of google on line photos to be impossible to live with. I have used google photos for over ten years and like it. I use it as a back up to Apple Photos and local storage. When I tired exporting to my MacBook Pro directly I got very small files from the 3a. Same thing by uploading to google photos and then trying to export from g photos to the MBP. Likely I just did not know the way to do it. But I have no problems backing up other photos from other cameras to google photos and then downloading from that app to my MBP. I also tried putting the Lightroom camera app on the 3a and getting photos to the LR app on my MBP as a workaround. Did not work, still small files. Seems like the google system does not have a way of getting bigger jpegs off the 3a, or I don't know how to do it. I also found the native camera app on the 3a much less organized than on the screen of the XS Max. Likely as I was less used to the 3a. Video seemed much superior on the XS Max. I returned the 3a after a few days as I just did not like it compared to the iPhone. I went back to using a Moto Droid Turbo II that I already own as my back up phone.

Walli your use of the phone is private unless you want to share. Very easy to get help via live person, chat, Apple store. Very high quality hardware. Face time. iMessage. Retains very high resale value. Works extremely well with any iOS device and very well with Mac computers and good with windows.

I am using pixel 3 now, straight outa my pocket 9/10 photo that i've taken is never missed. No more touching setting or tap the screen to correct the light, just double click power button then snap! But I still using my iphone 7 for video recording and instagram stories for over 2 years and never regret.

The top back glass in the pixel 3a is glossy ( not matte) it gets scratches and it's too slippery sometimes. So I applied a full body screen protector from gadgetshieldz.

Tyler you say pixel beats iphone i agree only in low light, pixel can't do 4k 60 fps, cinematic video in 24 fps , 1080 240 slow mo, 1080 60 video in front cam, no time lapse, that iphone can do , iphone also support wide color gamaut support dcip 3, extended dynamic range 4k 30 fps, pixels audio recording is trash compared to iphone, stereo audio recording , pixel take panorama in 5 mp iphone in 63 mp, smart hdr is is no doubt better that hdr plus because of the better isp in A12 bionic it takes more photo frames than hdr plus, portrait mode in iphone you can adjust the blur before or after, so i think iphone clear winner in camera department, except in lowlight..

It wasn't until I bought my 3a that I realized what the camera app on a phone could do - I actually used #whatcamera in my 3a review responses. The 3a's capabilities are not overly pricey; it's a $400USD phone! It's not leashed to a specific carrier. Hence I called it #SmartphoneSanity and #EverybodysPixel. It still has the fingerprint lock (from both previous Pixels and the Galaxy S series). Unlike face lock (which has security issues - in both the Pixel 4 and iPhones), fingerprint lock still works.

The pixel 3a prooves you don't need more than one sensor on the rear of your phone to take good photos a single good quality sensor is better imo. My 3a camera has generally suprised me and as a photographer myself I now use my phone in place of a pocket sized point and shoot for quick snaps. Obviously a phone will never hold a candle to a proper full framed DSLR (as much as youtube reviewers etc will try and tell you they do) but I think anyone buying something like a pocket sized canon powershot etc rather than using a good phone camera needs to think again.

Andriod OS gets some getting used to but at least if I want to switch back later, I am not spending $700-1000 on a new phone. The only thing I miss so far is Message. I hate having to download each sms txt message.

Hi Tyler, What are your thoughts on the Pixel’s night sight mode as compared to the low light performance of 1 inch sensor point and shoots? Do you think the low light abilities of computational photography eclipses the abilities of 1 inch sensors? I ask because I use an iPhone XS and a Canon 5d and am now looking for that middle ground camera that I can use in dimly lit places like dinner parties where a 5d would be out of place but the XS ‘ image quality falls short. A Sony HX 99 compact camera is the same price as Pixel 3a and is a far superior camera. Easier to fit into pockets than Pixel, smaller but not as thin. Sony comes with a Zeiss lens with 30x optical zoom. 24mm - 720mm. Does good 4K video. Can be used full auto to full manual easily. Raw or jpeg or both. Regular or usb charge. Has flipping back screen and EVF. Has face and eye auto focus. Very good built in stabilization. I have been able to catch birds and wildlife with this. Built in flash. Does actual bokeh with lens at 85-135 mm.

The impression I'm increasingly getting from the Pixels, is that while the cameras are indeed great (night sight is legitimately mind-blowing), the complete package isn't quite as compelling as an iPhone or a Galaxy. The 3a camera definitely punches way above its weight for the money, but the longer term performance of the 3a gives me pause. Even the regular (and more powerful) Pixel 3 has a reputation for slowing down after a few months of use. That's not to say the 3a isn't a great value, but its low price point doesn't come from nowhere. It might not be the most... mic-droppy... of endings, but I feel like Jordan made a good choice. I'm sure he can get as many years out of the XR as he got out of his 6S.

Tyler Stalman Can’t disagree with that. The current crop of smartphones has really cemented the notion that point and shoot cameras or bridge cameras are kind of pointless. Even with an iPhone 7, my 6D just doesn’t see that much action anymore. Seen as a camera first, the 3a is a great deal for what you can achieve with it.
