The anouncer said there was no knife under none of the cups. So the player would have to go upstairs to get the "model" knife and get to stab it by himself - what would crearly go beyond the rules of the game so he would get neither any kind of refound, nor his life being treated by proffesionals. When he get to the hospital the scene would be a play of "Squid Game" episode 2 when all captive escape and the protagonist tells the police officer that amazing story worth a nobel price but yet completely unbelivable. And so the hospital would be like "Give me all the money you earned so we could perform the surgery on you" or maybe "We can't run the surgery on you at this moment, dear. Come again next time"

Please remember, there was no way that Derren would have ever allowed him to actually be in any real danger. The Channel 4 lawyers would never had allowed this to take place otherwise, if there was not a fail safe in place by Derren, and there was, there was always a fail safe.

There have been versions of this trick that have gone wrong though. Usually they involve slamming your hand down onto a paper bag which might have a needle under it.

Always remember, with these videos, he was producing shows for Channel 4, and they operated under a strict guideline of what you can and can't do. Failsafes were always in place. Channel 4 and Objective Productions never wanted to get their arses sued

Left then he and the lady to the last one together. He'd do something similar with red blue and green cups on a table and he and a lady volunteer did it together each time. So this version has 2 big differences. That in this one only the volunteer is in any (apparent) danger and it's Matt's bare feet that are at risk not his hands.
