I was playing lead tenor in the band, I could hardly believe Stan Getz was playing right in front of me! Humbling for one thing, incredible for another.

This is so beautiful. Beta, would you happen to have the full version without some of the edits that come towards the end?

I wish I did. I don't remember exactly where I found this recording, maybe an old skippy CD...sorry

@@betaeta8620 no problem. I’m just glad you posted it as is. It’s a lovely arrangement and Stan Getz plays so elegantly.

Hi Beta. I found the CD where this track came from. It's Woody Herman Live at the Concord Jazz Festival featuring Al Cohn and Stan Getz, 1981. It's posted on KZbin. under the title of the CD. The CD cost around $37 on Amazon!

Yuk! Orchestra and jazz - no no
@gtpinter4 жыл бұрын
D.W. Don't get hung up on the word "orchestra", it's still a big band. A large portion of Stan's roots was this setting. It's beautiful music... you don't like it, listen to something else.. no "yuk", like a kid who won't eat his green beans. Where are your manners "pal"? LOL... "pal" is one Woody might have used on you if he was still alive to hear you say "yuk". One time a patron tried to tell Woody how to run his band.. Woody said "how much did you pay to get in here"? The guy said "fifteen dollars". Woody pulled $15 out of his wallet, handed it to him and said "go home". Anyway, you're not even paying to hear it.. so why insult talented & under-appreciated musicians?

Orchestra can also mean big band in jazz. If you think this is “yuk” then I feel bad for you. Plus I like my flute playing on this!
