My favourite thing about this is that its not just a bit Stone and Parker came up with for laughs, its actually a super specific reference to a real anti-bullying music video. Back in 2012 (when this ep came out) there was like a national competition for American schools to produce an anti-bullying campaign. A Texas high school made a lip synching music video which is basically the same as this (minus people in drag and a naked kid in a glass box). Thing is tho it wasn't a super viral video. It got attention but not nearly enough for people to know that it was being parodied in this episode. Like it still isn't a widely known thing.

This episode was genius. It showed that victims of bullying can still be bullies themselves, and made me realize how much of an asshole I was when it came to dealing with bullying in high school. Obviously I’m not saying bullying is justified, just that I might or might not have had it coming at certain points when my attitude wasn’t much different than the bullies I had. And I also like how the episode showed that even if you have good intentions and genuinely want to help someone who’s dealing with bullies like Stan or the bowl cut man, you still might be making the person feel uncomfortable and not really helping much at all.
@mayhare97544 жыл бұрын
Yup. This unfortunately turns into a vicious cycle in which nobody wins. This is very well exemplified by social media nowadays, where the slightest mishap or difference of opinion will have people (who at one point might have been coming from a good place) literally telling you to kill yourself, and the Black Mirror episode Hated By The Nation even addresses this tendency. I feel like this episode (Butterballs) is more relevant than ever in this day and age.
@Imlaor254 жыл бұрын
Yes, the way people speak on the internet really made me see this. A notable example: the SJW types who want to stop hate speech etc against minorities, yet they themselves act like complete assholes and bullies in their slactivist “struggle”. Funny thing is, I think these people are victims of bullying and this is just a way to act out their feelings on the internet.
@mayhare97544 жыл бұрын
@@Imlaor25 as a minority myself, I am unfortunately inclined to agree. I've seen a lot of these people make assumptions about me assuming I wasn't a minority because I disagreed with how they were handling things, or try to feel (very vocally) offended FOR me in my stead about something I was fine with. You'll see people complaining about movie posters, even, it's frankly getting really tiring. I don't know, I feel like most people on the internet nowadays just really love yelling at each other and trying to shout louder than everyone else, and that comes from both sides of whatever argument's going on. I honestly just want to see funny shit and laugh at memes. Way too much shit in real life for me to worry about internet drama as well.

"It showed that victims of bullying can still be bullies themselves," well, you got it wrong bro. It got nothing to do with this statement. The last thing a bullied person wants is to be exposed. But someone who doesn't understand what being bullied is like, exposing the victims seems like a great idea like you said. and in some degree it goes from saving the victim to using the victim to make yourself hero. I think you got the quoted idea from Butters beating dr. oz. In this part dr. oz clearly bullies butters, exposes him in his tv show to got high ratings and be a hero. He pushes Butters to stand up for himself and take actions. and in conclusion, Butters beats him, his bully. The episode is all about how anti-bully campains are not about stoping bullies, but making someone, some company, some establishment hero while bullying the victim even more. and it includes lots of ironic and sarcastic elements like a classic south park episode. Stan, kangaroo haircut man, tv producer and dr. oz are all douchebags with actually very little intention on helping the victim.
