Yeeeeeeeeeeees! Once, I was driving in Brooklyn. It was raining and when I put on my brakes my car didn't stop right away and I went through the red light! ( thankfully, there was no traffic from left to right) A police officer pulled me over. When I looked up, I was looking in the face of the best looking policeman I ever saw! He looked like he stepped off a movie screen! He told me to reduce my speed when driving in the rain and handed me a ticket with a beautiful smile. The ticket was for $125.00! @@八木あえ実 probably not. If a man called a woman officer _hot,_ it wouldn't be special to the officer cuz if she is a hot woman then she's probably used to compliments. If she were to be called _respectful and calm,_ it would also not be special because women officers are more often expected to be, or viewed as, calm and respectful and passive compared to male officers. So first off, it wouldn't be anything new, whereas a male police officer being both hot _and_ calm/respectful is typically seen as unusual. Secondly, when women randomly compliment men, there is usually not a feeling of threat or unease attatched to it from the part of the man. Because women are physically inferior to men in strength, they don't pose a threat, even if they are actively interested in the man in an unsolicited way. By contrast, when women are complimented by random men, especially in a way that is indicative of the man being physically attracted to her, then that woman has cause to feel intimidated or even _afraid_ if the man persists. Because men are physically stronger. And as a stranger, the woman has no reason not to believe that the man might get physical around her based on his interest in her, in which case she would be able to do little to nothing against his unsolicited praise or affections. Obviously, a trained police officer wouldn't fear this as much, but as a woman, it still tends to appear intimidating when a random man gives a lot of compliments. If the man was a small child or a frail old man, then it wouldn't be. And that is the difference between how men percieve compliments from random women, and how women percieve compliments from random men, on the basis of the threat they each instinctively feel from it. And that's the reason why men complimenting women can be seen as "creepy", whereby women complimenting men, though still weird and unusual, isn't creepy. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

I disagree, she does not have a point. What she's experiencing is the "halo effect", which is giving value to someone simply bc of their appearance. Studies show that people with pretty privilege are treated better, and this actually creates a sense of entitlement in people based on their looks, rather than them actually contributing to society in a meaningful way. We need to recognize the halo effect when it happens, bc it results in criminals being adored - some even getting modeling jobs right out of prison. We have guys like Ted Bundy who have female fans that defend his murderous actions bc he was good-looking and charismatic. It's scary that people can be so taken by someone's appearance and who can easily be manipulated as a result. I'm not saying this cop is a bad person, but I think we're giving him way too much credit for doing the bare minimum. He was just doing his job, him being good-looking doesn't accentuate his skillset anymore than any other respectful cop. Just sayin'.
