Great moment. I understand why a lot of people don't get why the crowd reacted this way to his dance. It wasn't technically that good, many other dancers could show more technicality, but what he had in spades was soul, after all, the name of the dance contest was "Dance Your Style", and in that one short magical moment, he let it all out and bared his soul in front of the crowd and felt the music with his whole body. He wasn't just dancing to the music, he became the music. And the whole audience felt that. Bravo to him. Edit: Wow, I did not realize my post would generate this much comments. It also made me realize most people misunderstood what I meant by the "technically good" statement which was my fault for not explaining it properly or rather for not phrasing it in the proper context. I was referring to the context of the commonly accepted technical standard and structure that most performance competitions have, whether it be ballroom dancing, figure skating or gymnastics for example. In these competitions, there usually are mandatory techniques and routines with varying degrees of difficulties that are usually expected by judges from the contestants to show their mastery of the basics and to show their versatility as well. They then take this standard and innovate by putting their own unique personal interpretation and variations on it and that has been the usual way of trailblazing new trends in dance or the performance arts. You see this in gymnastics and figure skating too, be it a double flip or triple flip or a flying tornado split😄, whatever is a popular trend at the moment. But once in a while, someone comes along and goes against the trend and makes their own rules, breaks the standard and blows the audience away. Instead of multiple flips they do rolls, instead of graceful hand movements they perform explosive kicks, etc. So while he did not show the familiar difficult dance moves usually seen on the dancefloor, he created his own unique dance moves and caught the audiences' attention with its sincerity and spontaneity. In short, he used his own unique body language and was able to communicate with the audience directly and well.
