Hey Guys, we're reacting and breaking down "Stand By me" starring a who's who of Young Hollywood Talent of the 90's Including River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connel, Keiffer Stutherland. It's a sweet Coming of Age Movie, and a wonderful venture into nostalgia.

Most people miss it, at the beginning of the film Richard Drifus is sitting in his car and on the seat next to him is a news paper with the story of a lawyer Chris Chamber kill in a fast food restaurant, which starts the movie remembrance.

This one's in my top ten. To me, a big thing in the background of this plot is fathers and sons, and how sons grow up in the shadow of their fathers, even in ways they might not realize. Keep up the good work my dudes

One of my favorite stories - Jerry O'Connell (Vern) said that his favorite part of making the film was that he was allowed to swear at such a young age.

Yeah , would have been nice if Gordie got his brothers hat back. Stephen King said that kid probably chucked the hat as soon as he turned the next corner and it was unrealistic to think he would still have it days later . which is probably true but still would have been nice if he got his hat back .

I grew up in the 70's in a town in Wisconsin on the Mississippi River. I lived next door to my cousins there were four of us boys aged 9-12. Most of our families worked for the railroad which ran right thru our town along the river. We had many days just like this (Minus the dead body). We would leave in the morning with a few snacks and be gone all day. Walking the tracks picking up iron ore pellets for our slingshots or go fishing. Some days stopping at the depot to see my Grandpa and see if we could get a ride up the tracks on the Putt-Putt Car. We had only one rule be home by dark or call home if we were staying over at each others house. It was a glorious childhood.

The ending always hits me hard. It was my generation. River's death and the abuse that Corey and so many others suffered. So many of them are dead or destroyed now. Just so sad.

This, along with "Shawshank Redemption" (1994), and "Apt Pupil" (1998), have been made into films, three of the four novellas from "Different Seasons" (1982).

If you want to talk about crazy things you did as a kid , I'm sure everyone in the comments will probably have their stories; so here's mine - We had a disused railway line near where we lived where us kids would sometime play. The tracks had been lifted but it wasnt yet very overcome by nature. It included a stone bridge across a river. Fooling about ( Iwas very much the tomboy) I was dared to walk the length of the bridge along the parapet; which I did; successfully (thankfully!) As I remember, the parapet was about 12" wide with maybe about 70/80' drop into the river below. I was about 9 or 10... Another time, we explored a tannery next to the river that had recently been abandoned (there had been a fire which had cause it to close). It had been left exactly as the day whe it caught fire; the office still had papers, pens, etc lying about. We had great fun exploring and scaring each other with creepy stories. However, looking back on that now, it was a death trap just waiting to happen. - The ground level was full of sunken tanks fed by the river and these were still full of water. Any kid on their own who fell in one of these wouldn't have gotte out again. I made the "mistake" of telling my dad about our exploits and the dorr that was open and....that was the end of that 🙄

This is a film with legs, highly rewatchable. In fact, it doesn’t really reveal its greatness until you see the opening a second time and the previous viewing starts to resonate. This kind of opening is also seen in the Christopher Reeve film Somewhere in Time (1980). The opening, upon a second viewing, is heartbreaking, not just because the ‘old woman’ now has a history, but the ‘interval of life passed’, which doesn’t get screen time becomes apparent in his labored walk. In this film, Dreyfus sitting, head down has no ‘first time’ emotional weight, nor do the kids on their bicycles, but on second viewing, the emotional wight of the bookending is very emotional.

It’s a shame what has happened to Feldman, if his life had taken a different turn I’m sure he could have still been doing some good work, he genuinely had something. And River of course.

First time I made out in a movie theater...."Stand By Me"! She broke it off a week later and I've never seen the movie since! 🤣 Man, Rob Reiner was on a roll with these good hit movies. Spinal Tap, Sure Thing, Stand By Me, Princess Bride, Misery, A Few Good Men. ("Spinal Tap" is the greatest of them, of course! lol). Hey, I've seen a couple of great reactions for the original '68 "Planet Of The Apes", I'd be interested in your remarks on that one, if you ever get around to it! The same director did "Patton" two years later, another great one I'd love to hear your thoughts on (and a movie that could use reactions!). (and on that same subject: Scorsese's "King Of Comedy" and "Cape Fear"! No reactions yet! And "After Hours" only has one! You guys would KILL on "After Hours"!) Ok, enough from me!

@@majormoviemadness9927 Cool! Which ones? Do you have 'em all picked out? I nominate "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid" (1969) It's a movie as much about the western itself as it is Butch & Sundance! Most of my fave Westerns are old ones, "Stagecoach", "My Darling Clementine" (both John Ford). "One Eyed Jacks" starring AND DIRECTED by Marlon Brando, his only directing credit, great western. I'm going to give you a link that will BLOW YOUR MIND, an amazing doc about the birth of the westerns, something you might want to have under your belt going in to this series! Narrated by James Mason, this is freaking great. (it's part of an amazing 13-part series about the birth of Hollywood that is a must-see. I've got a laserdisc print which I can get you if you want, better quality than You Tube. I guarantee you, this will change the way you see movies (both this episode, and this entire series!): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnSnhmRqbcqhd5I

Maybe in America girls always just do girly stuff. Where I grew up - some girls were pretty fun to hang out with and were even tougher than some of my friends - boys. We all went swimming together, played all kinds of games outdoors, built treehouses, etc. My cousin and I actually watched this film together when we were kids, and I think she loved this film even more than I did. She was also kind of like a leader of our little "gang".

We used to make a dummy, dress it in a white shirt and bluejeans, stick an arrow in its back and put some red paint around the arrow. Then we'd toss it by the curb and hide in the bushes watching people in passing cars react to it. Some funny shit.

we were throwing snow chunks at cars as they were driving by and buddy threw a chunk and broke the rear quarter triangle window on a car..guy slammed on his brakes and got out with a huge knife..ended up chasing us around the hood for what seemed like an hour..because we didn't want to get seen going to my friend's house..I BARELY got away by diving into a snow pile beside a shed around a corner of back alley with this car speeding behind me with a guy yelling death threats out the window..luckily it was dark out.. and of course that led to a period of "do you wanna get in a chase?"..as something to do..do some semi-crazy random shit just to get chased by somebody..

Greetings and Love from Köln/Cologne, Germany. ..Remember those sick idiots playing 'Mailbox Baseball' while driving by.? That was actually a thing back in the days...After three times setting up her Mailbox an older Lady got pissed. She put up a fourth one..but this time she filled the Mailbox up with liquide concrete. And after it was hard as a rock she sits on her porch and waited with an evil smile. So the butthead swings his bat with full power and headed out for a homerun. Instead the people from the next little town could hear a scream from hell...as this idiot broke his arm and probably one of his hand..on this old Lady's Mailbox made of stone ☺ ..damn, i would loved having seen this..hihihi...(true story)...stay safe, my friends & PEACE

1. I've read 53 King/Bachman books and this one (as well as this adaptation) rank about in the middle. 2. It's a typical coming of age movie and my only interest was because it was written by the GOAT. 3. Not a huge Reiner fan but I do like what he did with "Misery" also from a King novel. 4. My friends and I used to drive by mailboxes mostly out in the country farm area and toss beer bottles "overhanded" over the top to see if we could hit them. 5. Recommendations of King adaptations: "Misery", "The Mist" and his GOAT "The Green Mile" with Tom Hanks.
