Hey everyone, thank you so much for watching! Please consider subscribing to the channel. What are some of your favorite "coming-of-age" films? Also, I look up details of each film and the actor's after I'm done watching the film. So sad to learn about River Phoenix! What an amazing talent that would've undoubtedly brought so many amazing performances to this day.

Awesome Authentic Reaction👍👍 This is hands down one of the greatest movie stories Ever told and filmed, And i don't just say that lightly.. Amazing acting performance from all Great cinematography Everything about this film Was, Is and Always will be a 10/10!! This is what it really trully means To be in a Brothethood! Boys doing boy things Being crazy free and wild Pushing all the boundaries And having each others backs And looking out for each other in the process *That's what is All About Man!!* That builds character through life What it is To be a Real Man I feel sorry for all the kids being born these days With all this feminist and gender politics bullsht Being forced down their throats everyday Instead of embracing Masculinuty! They are missing out on all that The main parts of growing up The Normal way as it should be They will never know any of that They will never experience what it is To be One of the Boys!! I gotta tell ya man I did and experienced things just like that and and way more as a kid And i loved every bit of it!! It was Exciting Fun Dangerous Wild Free Being able to just Explore and see and experience the world through your own eyes Instead of being told what to do, What to say and how t o feel these days Looking back now, Of everything i did and all the risks i took On my own or with my friends as a kid growing up, I wouldn't change a damm thing man! Like i said before, Your're one of the Guys And although i dont like using this word or reference or how media classifies it Your're still one of us bro Gen-X! I can just tell and sense this by the way you talk and act Even though its only thtough a screen Your Heart's in the Right place Bro👍 You remind me of how some of my friends are Never Change Man Nomatter what Kife throws at You Never Change Who You Really Are! Be True to Yourself And stay faithful to who you are!👍👍

Also, here's another vote for Dazed and Confused. It's basically a look at 24 hours look at kids on the night of their last day of school in the 70s. Great music and a talented cast of young, mid-90s actors. (American Graffiti does the same thing, but IT'S a night in the life of graduating teens in the 50s...and it's directed by George Lucas!)

Director Rob Reiner made sure to do a lot of theater (improvisation) games before starting to shoot the movie with these boys. The 4 main actors became like actual close friends prior to the first day of shooting. That's a big part of how they acted so natural.

Dazed and Confused (1993) is another iconic coming-of-age film that's probably already on your radar for future viewing. Y tu mamá también (2001) is perfectly cast with Diego Luna & Gael García Bernal about 2 young men on a carefree cross-country journey with an older woman. The Kings of Summer (2013) is another wonderful contemporary film with Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso & Moisés Arias - a band of young men about to leave their family behind to build a house in the woods and live off the land. Stand By Me cast member; River Phoenix(Chris) was also in My Own Private Idaho (1991) with Keanu Reeves - a daring choice for both actors due to it's content about male hustling. Dogfight (1991), another overlooked movie with Phoenix - about a young Marine out for his last night in San Francisco with his military friends before all being deployed to Vietnam. Dark Blood (1993) was the film River was about a month away from finishing before he died in October of 1993. Great review, glad you enjoyed the film.

The reason grown Gordy was pulled over to the side of the road and looking sad and upset at the very beginning was because he has read the story of Chris's death in the newspaper that was sitting on the car seat. He started thinking about the old days with his best friends and the story begins. River Phoenix, who played Chris, had so much potential. He tragically died at 23 years old of a drug overdose in 1993. I always wonder what he could've achieved if he had lived. Will Wheaton, who played Gordie, played Wesley Crusher on Start Trek: The Next Generation.

When I was editing the reaction, I caught the newspaper moment. It's one that was so brief at first that I didn't make the connection. I wonder how my experience would've been knowing the whole time that Chris would end up being murdered. Honestly, I'm glad it's something that didn't notice and it hit so hard at the end when it was "revealed". I wonder what other amazing performances he could've delivered if he were still alive today. Such a sad and tragic story. I've read more about his childhood the last couple of days

@@jessebatres6895 Most of us didn't make the connection when we first saw the movie until the very end, when we remembered Gordie sitting in the truck at the beginning. Most of us had forgotten about that opening scene until the end. Chris destiny is terribly sad, but he also had an amazing and beautiful story. I think he's such a kind and selfless soul that he would do it all over again and still intervene because that's just his nature. Big up yourself as always bro, thanks for the reaction. You are very intelligent too and passionate, a very good mix 🙂 Great film and the scene in the water is tough man... everywhere they can bite but not there 🤣 And Stephen King has many good books like that. "Misery" is maybe the most famous but there is another film with Kathy Bates called "Dolores Claiborne". King said that this is one of his favourite film adaptions. More like a thriller / drama and with very tough topics but amazingly played. Hopefully someday you can see it too (or even react if you decide). 😎

The town, Castle Rock, is a shared setting that Stephen King set several novels and novellas in, and thus had characters who were incidental in one story be the protagonist in a different one. King does this on occasion, so there are other towns seen multiple times. So Ace does show up here and there in the Castle Rock books, but as another comment below noted, Ace's biggest role is in Needful Things, which is also pretty much the largest scale story in Castle Rock. Note, as you are hitting a lot of Stephen King works, at least three television works of his - Storm of the Century, the Langoliers and Rose Red - are worth checking out.

Before social media, video games and in many cases even before cable television, kids just hung around and found things to do outdoors together. We drank from the garden hose because we weren't allowed back indoors until mealtime, or the streetlights came on. I remember rock & dirt clod fights, BB gun wars, and lots of time riding bikes. (Never went on an adventure to find a dead body though. I think that's a good thing.)

I am a huge King fan. I've read every story and book several times over. I read this when it came out in 82 (I was 15). Same collection that has Shawshank Redemption. Rob Reiner made a wonderful adaptation of this story. He also made King's Misery. I saw a bit of myself in Gordie as I am also a writer. I also connected with Chris as I was always being accused of stuff I didn't do by teachers and my own parents. That ending hit hard for me too as I am also a peacemaker and try to break up arguments. A friend of mine was the same way and tried to break up a fight. He was killed as well. King writes incredible characters whether they are in a dramatic or horrific tale. He is a master storyteller.

"Do you think I'm weird?" "Definitely." "No man, seriously. Am I weird?" "Yeah, but so what? Everybody's weird." Fun Fact: Theatrical film debut of Jerry O'Connell. Author Approved Fact: After director Rob Reiner screened the movie for Stephen King, he noticed that King was visibly shaking and wasn't speaking. He left the room and upon his return, told Reiner that the movie was the best adaptation of his work he had ever seen. Sky High Fact: Kiefer Sutherland claimed in an interview that in one of the locations of the film, a Renaissance Fair was being held and the cast and crew attended and bought some cookies. Unfortunately, the cookies turned out to be pot cookies and two hours later, the crew found Jerry O'Connell crying and high on the cookies somewhere in the park. The Four Musketeers Fact: River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton, and Jerry O'Connell got into a lot of mischief in the hotel they were staying in during filming. This included throwing all the poolside furniture into the pool, Wheaton fixing video games in the lobby so they could play them for free and Phoenix (spurred on by the other boys) unknowingly covering Kiefer Sutherland's car in mud, only discovering whose car it was when Sutherland confronted a scared and nervous Phoenix about it later.

Ah nice!! I'll have to do read up on his character for sure. After I watch more of Stephen King's films, I'll have to look up how many of his characters share the same universe.

@jessebatres6895 I can answer that. Pretty much every story is connected. There are some distinct arcs where some books are directly connected to each other, and some that just have relatives of other characters. His writings as Richard Bachman are mostly stand alone, but he even did a crossover with those with The Regulators and Desperation. In the end, they are all connected through the Dark Tower.

I absolutely loved it! It brought back some memories of just out and about exploring with friends. And it also reminded me how we indeed lose touch with the vast majority of our childhood friends. But in many ways, they will hold special memories in our hearts forever. ❤

I love this movie even if the ending is a bit illogical. How is Ace going to explain to the authorities that in order to report your dead boy he had to kill another boy? But I'm happy to overlook that. However, Chris Chambers seems to have been fated to die by a stab in the neck. As a child he was protected from it by his best friend, only to die in this gruesome way a few decades later.

Ace floats around in the Stephen King legendarium. No surprises as far as I ever read. A cowardly, bullying loser always.

That's super interesting! I wonder how many of King's stories are in the same universe. That's something I'll have to do some research on once I get through the bulk of the films.

Boys doing boy things Being crazy free and wild Pushing all the boundaries And having each others backs And looking out for each other in the process *That's what is All About Man!!* That builds character through life What it is To be a Real Man I feel sorry for all the kids being born these days With all this feminist and gender politics bullsht Being forced down their throats everyday Instead of embracing Masculinity! I can just tell and sense this by the way you talk and act Even though its only thtough a screen Your Heart's in the Right place Bro👍 You remind me of how some of my friends are Never Change Man Nomatter what Life throws at You Never Change Who You Really Are! For Anybody bro!! Be True to Yourself And stay faithful to who you are!👍👍
