Those huge vehicles terrify me (reason why is shown in one of my videos), despite having travelled in his cab from time to time when I was a kid. I drive a lot more now we've moved to the South West and oh boy these roads are narrow! I have been down the odd single track road like what you're driving on in this video and I really don't like them! Well, they'd be good if they were one way! Still, I'm mortified when I meet a lorry on them but I would never have done what she did. We encountered a similar problem during one of my HGV drivers licence lessons. This woman just stopped a few meters shy of our truck and threw her hands in the air like "what am I gonna do now" and gestured at us to reverse. So I - being super new to truck driving and not exactly looking forward to reverse on a narrow road that my instructor had specifically picked for its narrowness to show me how to navigate tight bends - looked at my instructor and went: "Oh god. I don't know if I can get back to that intersection half a mile back." And he just looked at me as if I just told him, I didn't know how to bring Elvis back and said: "Reverse? Are you mad? Her shoebox is a quarter our size. She'll be reversing." And what should I say.. It took half an hour to get her moving, but move she did :D

I sympathise with you, had a similar situation in my van, what they dont understand sometimes in narrow lanes, when both your mirrors are both brushing against hedgerows you have no visability behind you to reverse. They come hearing down the lanes ,then stop a foot away from the hedgerows and expect you to drive through all the undergrowth and hedgerows on your side of the road ,while they sit pretty, One time a Range Rover had a passing bay right behind him, but because it was a little bit muddy, refused to move back, so I just sat there, I dont have a reversing camera on my company van ,so if someone is parked directly behind me I cant see them in my mirrors if I was to reverse, unless they are a reasonable distance back.

I can easily reverse a wagon up there. I'd have given her the keys and said be my guest.

Dal xurxall no she wasn't the driver. She got out of the passenger side of the car and as the trucky reversed she was standing at the back of his truck to watch for any traffic. The car,her car, moved slowly forward as the truck backed up.

I've had this issue before with another driver. I was driving down a road like this in the video clip. The driver that I met coming towards me started flashing his headlights at me and drove past a entrance to a farm. He stopped in front of me and got out off his car and walked to my car and told me to back up to the entrance that I past which was well over 300 yards behind me. But the entrance that he past was less than 40 feet. In the end he had to back up in the entrance that he past as I had 3 other vehicles came up behind me. He wasn't happy.

Our firm had a regular pick-up from a cheese farm in Devon, it was so tight the trailer would scrape and drag the mud from the 8ft banks, just crazy.

Unbelievable , ask her to reverse the truck lol

Good on you for keeping your calm with her and being the better person. Her attitude was terrible, but I suppose that's your private school education for you, to be swearing like that as well for no reason and you where being civil enough. Glad you have her on camera and thousands of people have seen her acting like a moron, hopefully she has seen this herself and seen how she behaved and is embarrassed by it.

James Carter I know. If he had went to the right in the 1st place when his prat nav had said. It would have brought him to his destination from the other direction on that wide road where he ended up.

This is when she finds out the driver is delivering her new gearbox so she can reverse
@ConalRF3 жыл бұрын
That was an intense showdown. LGV drivers always seem to be the more competent and patient ones. You'd think the tests were even more strict than car driving, and involve more experience. In my opinion, the opposing driver would probably struggle to reverse their car more than the LGV driver did.

Can you imagine being out on this road in the middle of the night.

no way in hell i would have backed up.
@smithy23896 жыл бұрын
Must have been annoying when your finally turned onto the wide road at your destination suggesting there was a better way... I’d always use gmaps first to plan those routes and I’d play it safe with the must longer distance to avoid dirty tracks!

i will never go back for a small car, if i did drive the truck.

Think she was perfectly right - HGVs should not be on single track lanes like that - the lanes aren't built for them.

@@fastasfox maybe should use vehicles appropriate for the roads you will be driving on? 😀

@mjb1957uk such as ? The load was too large to fit on a postmans bike... I would be happy to entertain your ideas on delivery though.

My usual response to people like this is, "I'm getting paid to sit in this lorry, can you say the same?" at which point I turn off the ignition, stick the hazards on, pull a copy of the Highway Code out of my bag, put my feet up onto the dash and start reading. Usually does the trick. I drive a box and drag skelly btw. Really hard to reverse without jacking.
@fastasfox2 жыл бұрын
I could imagine you don't find yourself in this situation very often then in a w.n.d . Funny thing is this road is like the M1 compared to some farm lanes I have had to go to.
@michaelkennedy85737 жыл бұрын
so what would you have done if another car came behind her after you let her pass?? Reverse again?? Sorry but I'd have let her wait. Kettle on and feet up.
@fastasfox7 жыл бұрын
Michael Kennedy I get what your saying but I can only deal with what is in front of me and not the what if's so much and bottom line the daughter could not reverse and I needed to find a solution to that problem mate....cheers.
@michaelkennedy85737 жыл бұрын
fastasfox oh aye don't get me wrong mate, you did the right, mature thing.. Its always better saying I'd do this and do that but in the situation i bet we'd all do the same, just I've had that same situation but not in an artic, i was actually driving a car with a trailer, couldn't see behind me so did not even attempt the reverse and they didn't want to help so i stayed and they eventually moved😂😂
@ricmoffet68437 жыл бұрын
Mate I had a similar thing once when I was driving a Diamond Reo truck and trailer in Australia very narrow road, a delivery of explosives for the Army, an old fart wouldn't reverse back, he was very irate and abusive, I called up to the base on two-way radio, my commander sent up a double lift forklift, picked him up, moved him back 250 metres and dropped him in lane way, if I didn't have explosives, I would have pushed him out of the way!

I’m a coach driver and even if I meet a truck I’ll back up and let him through, especially on tight country roads and if I have seen a nice space I will go back to him, artic or rigid, plus if I meet a artic it’s easier for me to reverse rather than the driver slug a loaded or unloaded trailer back, called being courteous
