Thank you for sharing this beautiful mele. I am a native of Guam (a Chamorro), and like our Hawaiian and other Pacific island brothers and sisters, we too, are in a fight for our true independence and return of our motherland's dignity. Thank you for doing what you do for your people - there is no struggle much like that of the indigenous who have to fight for what is rightfully theirs and their ancestors.

There seems to be a misunderstanding. I am not Hawai'ian. But my wife and I come to Hawai'i to swim in the wonderful Hawai'ian culture and traditions, and don't want to change a thing. "...the indigenous who have to fight what is rightfully theirs and their ancestors." ??? The distance between Chicago and Hanalei is much further than 4,200 miles. In comparison to Hawai'i, Chicago might as well be on the dark side of the moon. Hawai'ians, keep doing what you're doing. Do it more. Further embrace your ancestry. No one wants you to change except, perhaps, to further appreciate what you've got.

This song has a beautiful melody, and even though I am not Hawaiian, I am Korean-American. As a Korean-American, we went through so many hardships like Hawaiians. My second homeland korea was taken over by the Japanese, as the same for Hawaii front the U.S. and Japanese bombing and control in WW2. Let there be peace in the Pacific islands and nations, and together we are one. ❤️❤️

I am sobbibg. I so wish our school had done more like this to make us proud to be Hawaiian back in the day..Just think how far along we would be in the fight for our culture had Kamehameha had been then...what it is now As for Kumu Hina....I just love her..and I don't know her at all..except by what I watch and read about her. What a blessing she is

Kumu Hina is a nice, and beautiful person! She did so much for this land and we should do the same as like she did for us and our keiki and our moopuna and keep our lahui going for our keiki for our moopuna and teach our keiki our moopuna to do the same and as long as we stand together and stand tall we can get through anything it is that we are trying to fight against! I've been wanting to say all this for a long time!

I stoked people love our hula and chants but in all reality it's not done right unless done by Hawaiians and real kumu's of traditional Hawaiian halau or hula groups . But still thanks for the support and love . It's just a slap in the face when you see a hula group from Japan or British UK or England it's like wtf none of those cultures really know what hula is or anything about it's origin

He ninau ko'u. A'ole akamai wau i ka 'olelo Hawai'i (kekahi haumana, wale no), So I ask why the title would not be Kū ha'aheo... (Stand Proud...)? Ku'u is the (dear) possessive but Puku'i (Hawaiian Dictionary) does not recognize Kū'u as a word at all. That said, the choir did a beautiful version of this mele.
@AE-ix2iz
@AE-ix2iz 5 жыл бұрын
kapuoa i thought the same thing but I’m not a Hawaiian expert. The only thing I instantly thought about was her influence from her Tongan husband? Kū = stand (Hawaiian) Tū = stand (Samoan) Tu’u = stand (Tongan) Lā = sun (Hawaiian) Lā = sun (Samoan) La’a = sun (Tongan) When i hear some Tongans say these words it doesn’t sound like there’s an okina in there. It honestly sounds like the kahako
