Is there a way to reject gifts from this person politely? No matter what I do, she will slander me. I'm really uncomfortable with these excessive gifts. I would greatly appreciate some of your magical words for this situation. 😊

You might try: "Trixie, I appreciate your generosity, I do. However I can't accept any more gifts from you because I can't reciprocate, and that embarrasses me. I know you'll understand." I would say this every time she approaches you with a gift and I would use it as a broken record, starting with "that may be but . . ." if she tries to tell you why you should accept her gifts. As long as she will slander you no matter what you do, make sure you do what pleases YOU and what seems right to YOU and what protects your boundaries. And bear in mind that it's not necessary to have her friendship. You go to work to WORK and not to make friends. Some people mistake the workplace for a bar or a church social--and that is a huge mistake.

I wish you could tell me or do a video on how to express myself on: How do I break up with a long term marriage relationship that is turning toxic because I cannot stand living with the mother in law in the same home. My wife is weak and mother in law is dictative, controls her and drives her crazy and me too. People tell me to move on. Luckily I got no kids.

@wizofaffect. Wiz, I wish I could help, but this is a complicated relationship that could perhaps be helped by marriage counseling. That really is my best advice for you. I would NOT want to muck up your life by giving you strategies for exiting a relationship that might be salvageable.

Eh, The first example, for the High School teachers, was a bit cringey. For those of us who had to endure (for years) a more competitive, egocentric culture. But I still relate. I understand the "Love" intention, but using that in the breakroom would mean instant termination when Mary screams foul. She has just taken the helm, because the previous manager just got canned for embezzlement . And you are in the maze.
