My hero, Stanley Clark, in 1976 I sent him a self made reel of music recorded on a Sony tapecorder, I had an old les Paul I bought from bobby Vintane who was playing i n who was playing in Thunder Bay , Ontario, he said Todd Rundgred had played it once, I used it for years, up to my first child David Michael Tribe, I loved Charles Mingus and Joni Michel, thank you, Bruce Tribe. I am not sure if he listened to it, very rough, I got the address for fan mail, from I think his second album. Peace, I pray. And world ecology, god bless also Our David. Suzuki in Vancouver,BC, where my second child Kaitlyn Marie Tribe Hache lives and my grandson Jacob Lawrence lives, Jake’s birthday coincidently is the same as the holy Dali Lama .

Stanley Clark was in Best concert I ever saw in 1982 at the Berkeley community theater. I got a chance to see Stanley when he was with return to forever, Best concert I've ever seen in my life. He's a total virtuo it was just amazing. I think that night they got five standing ovations and people were throwing roses on the stage it was so brilliant

Stanley Clarke is one of the greatest bass players I’ve ever heard! But let me tell you this I was brought up apostolic/Penecostal and I’ve heard men play under the anointing of the Holy Ghost that would blow your mind I mean fast and NO mistakes but I am talking about man playing bass under the anointing of God and they are my favorite just hard to explain the talent that I’ve seen over the years in apostolic/Pentecostals service you would justHave to be there to understand what I am saying it’s unbelievable to watch musicians play in church while God is moving in a strong and mighty way! Now on the other hand my three favorites are probably most peoples favorites Marcus Miller/Stanley Clark/Victor Wooten and there was another bass player that played with Stanley Clarke on stage in the 2000 Stanley Clarke Put out a DVD that had a lot of bass players on it I can’t remember the name of it but there was a white guy when it was his turn to play the bass players we’re all taking turns this guy had a ponytail and played very smooth and I don’t know his name wish I did. he was very very good and mellow I could tell Stanley Clarke liked him To if anyone can remember The name of the guy I’m talking about please let me know it was Stanley Clarke and probably 10 other bass players on stage at the same time I want to know the name of the guy with the ponytail that played his solo when they was all taking turns if anyone knows I would love to know his name so I can see if he has a KZbin channel. I hope if you’re reading this you can understand everything that I am saying because I’m using the little microphone at the bottom to do my texting so some of it may not sound correctly sorry about that but it’s a lot faster for me to use the speaker to type thank you.

@@paulwomacks117 I think the player you mentioned is Jimmy Johnson, and he is definitely smooth. There was another white guy with a pony tail, Billy Sheehan, but I dont think thats who you are talking about

Reginald Fitzpatrick Stanley Clarke is amazing and I love his style and I have a hard time picking between him Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten all three are so amazing I mean if you look at Victor Wooten he’s got so much spayed and funky dump and grooving everything with Marcus Miller man he’s just like needs to be in this big 500 boys choir gym and out over there on his base he would sound so good doing that because he’s got that hardtop and that low sound that mean is just great I love it and I appreciate you forLetting me know about Jimmy Johnson I’ve been wanting to find out who he was but I don’t have the DVD anymore and I couldn’t remember the name of it I think it’s old school or something like that I believe isn’t it?

Robert, there have been many great versions; Rahsaan Roland Kirk did a great version; John McLaughlin has done it several times; Joni Mitchell wrote some words for it and recorded it twice. However to my ears the most compelling version was by its composer, Charles Mingus, on his 1959 album "Ah Um" with John Handy and Booker Ervin on the tenor saxes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKrcpqdqja-daa8
