Mike Mitchell is a Dallas based drummer. He has been a regular in Stanley's touring band for almost 3 years. He started playing with Stanley while he was still in high school! He's amazed me every time I've seen him. Stanley seems to love playing with him so I expect these guys to continue loving a day at work. Bekal Gochiashvili is on piano. He is only 16 (15 when this was recorded) and has his 2nd disc out Spring 2015! Born in the country of Georgia, he now lives in NYC. First album produced by Lenny White. Lenny, Stanley, John Patitucci and Victor Bailey... plus plus plus play on it. Cameron Graves is on the Roland on this date. He is LA based. Stanley has been surrounding himself with a number of hot young players the last few years on stage. It is truly a bountiful treasure of pleasure to see them interact on stage!

Cameron Hood @ Cameron and David, I was there also. In total agreement. It was magic. Last time I saw Stanley Clarke live was RTF in Vancouver in the mid '70s. I guess I've matured, but I find this iteration of his music to be the best I've heard from him so far (I guess he's matured too . . .), and Beka just had me spellbound. I liked that Stanley thanked the audience for listening with their hearts. They definitely stirred mine.

hey. guys are awesome, beka too, but where is a piano tone?
kind of an interesting statement. He sounds EXACTLY like chick corea. So far, no personal expression at all, even though he is at a fantastic level technically.
@MrTerrencef19 жыл бұрын
Mikael Vilhelmsson wow, I couldn't disagree more. He has played live with Chick Corea many times... many of those videos are up on KZbin... they have literally solo'd and done improv with each other...and duels for fun... they have VERY different styles and sounds... yet u not only said they sound the same but "EXACTLY" the same! :o lol Look we r all allowed opinions but just because they solo within the same music theory framework and understand chord structure, including when it makes sense to break chords and do chromatic based runs, doesn't mean they sound the same. Most elite jazz pianists (and jazz improv musicians in general) eventually learn the same "tricks" and how to break chords while still making notes flow and sounds "correct" and organic during improv and solos. Trust me, study up on their live stuff here on youtube, and elsewhere, and u will see a huge difference in how they interpret pieces and chord changes. Its fun to see how uniquely ppls mind with when it cubes to interpreting the same chords.... Eventually u should be able to close your eyes and know exactly who is playing, and when. ;) But yes, I respect ur right to have and express an opinion but as a jazz pianist I just think you're dead wrong. Im 29 and this kid is just a teenager and solos roughly at the level my friends and I did back in , undergrad university. Nothing wrong with congratulating the young guy. He's talented
@CamelOnDirtBike9 жыл бұрын
yes he is talented, and you can tell that he has playes MANY years already. I have listened to some of the chick corea/beka videos, and calling them exactly the same is exaggerating, i give you that. But my opinions remains; he plays a lot like chick corea. If i would have heard beka when blindfolded i would definitely guess that it was chick. Im also a jazz pianist btw. I won't argue on the fact that a lot of pianists learns the same "tricks", but i don't see that as a excuse. In fact it makes it more difficult to find your own unique voice when constantly using borrowed material for improvising.
@MrTerrencef19 жыл бұрын
Mikael Vilhelmsson awesome, I'm glad u admitted to exaggerating the "sound exactly the same" type comment... Yea I respect ur points but I stand by my opinion also... however perhaps u have a interesting point...See I remember in undergrad trying to study up on more jazz pianists other than my 4 or 5 favorite... the more influences we have the more likely we are to permanent create something unique and distinct... So perhaps what ur saying is that, while he may have other influences, his playing is too largely influenced and based on ONE guy? Chick Correa? And thus he doesn't have is own sound yet? That's interesting. I didn't consider that if that's what ur saying. That's an interesting point. See, eventually I started stealing runs and rifts even from sax and trumpet players as well. Sometimes we r foolish as we master improv in that many piano players only focus on other piano players as inspiration. Know what I mean? But yeah, we can agree on one thing, Beka is talented. My.only criticism is that he too often uses chromatic tricks with his left hand... breaking the chord and doing chromatics. But that's the point, he's IS a teenager and probably 2 or 3 whole years ahead of where I was at his age... so who an I to criticise... but those chromatic left hand chords; It was something I did more often when I was younger and hadn't mastered all my chords yet... its a useful trick... and who am I kidding, I occasionally used those tricks in college too to extend a run and impress... half the crowd can't even tell the difference between a transitional chord progression and straight up going chromatics just to extend a run.haha :p Cool, ur a piano player too? Im 29 yrs old played 21 years... CSULB alumni ...what about yourself? Nice chatting with ya by the way fellow jazz pianist :)
