BIG FINISH-we build the retaining walls, use the excavated soil to level out the upper and lower areas by the retaining walls to create flat(er) play spaces for the kids and finish the project with Sod.

Hey Stan, with your access to the public eye and the requirements of OSHA. You should look into the effects of silicosis on those who breath in concrete dust. I cut a lot of concrete a few years back without protection, then my employer brought in a presentation about concrete dust and it’s effects on your lungs. It changes your perspective on why it is important for you, your employees, customers and their neighbors.

Here in Oregon, OSHA has begun stressing Silicosis big time. They have began coming to job sites and testing what people are breathing. We can no longer use a hot saw without water.

Took an 80 hour OSHA safety class a few years ago at the Laborer's Union Training facility. Silica is supposed to be regulated just like asbestos. And most of the the paper dust masks are not adequate. You should be using a HEPA grade mask. Did commercial concrete for a decade and cut miles of concrete.

Yep! I use a half mask respirator to cut that crap! I’ve been saying for years it’s gonna be the next asbestos

I'm fascinated with retaining walls and the engineering behind each one. On my new property with lots of hills and lots of runoff I need lots of help, better know as...retaining walls. Also need lots of French drains. Thank you for your insightful tutorials!!! They ROCK!!!!!

I built my wife a short brick boarder for her flower garden and a separate raised bed this summer. After watching your videos i tried the hand split technique that Blaine does here. It worked better than I expected and I didn’t have to rent a saw. Keep the video’s coming, I like learning how to landscape. The wall is good enough, but it would have turned out a lot worse had I not been watching ur videos for the last 2 years.

Thanks to you guys It feels good signing your working and giving yourself a pat on the back that what you did was done with integrity. If you won’t sign it, it shouldn’t be called complete. Great work Sam. And Stan for keeping the guys treated well enough to continue calling you boss. That’s the hardest part of running a company

I'm a union carpenter who works specifically on bridges.. I've used a lot of different brands of masonry saws but never a Husqvarna... Ive also done some flood relief work for a non profit organization during the 2016 floods in wv, which involved clearing log damns, cutting out and down trees from waterways, and clearing debris that have washed up and piled up. During that time we used Husqvarna chain saws and they were very temperamental... they worked great the 1st few weeks we used them then they would start acting contrary after about a month of daily use... I was told later by the guys that work on them daily they needed to have their carburetors adjusted after a period of time... We were told that about 8 month into using the saws tho... don't know if it would've made a difference if extending the life of the saw or not but whatever the case, we went through saws like they were made of plastic... Some of that may have been due to user error as well, because we had a lot of inexpensive guys working on with us that tore up the cogs ( that turn the chain) because they either under tightened and or over tightened the chains (which also ruins the bar as well). I know this was a review of the masonry saw, but the motors are basically the same...so really just giving you a heads up just in case your starts not wanting to start after a few months of use

Thank you for the informative videos! I Just have one question: What was the reason for not installing a drain pipe system on this wall? My opinion would be because the grade is pitching away from the house and the water is not going to be draining directly into the wall. Additionally, the wall is not high enough and the downspout exit point is in front of the wall rather than behind. Thank you in advance!

In the UK you can't make dust from any kind of cutting. Dust suppression is required at all times, if the HSE drove past and saw that dust.. they would shut you down, fine you and not let you start work again until you had the correct dust suppression. Im surprised its not enforced in the US to be honest. Other than that, love the vids, you do awesome work, you take pride in what you do, so keep em coming!

Unrelated to this video but we are filling in our backyard large deep fill we have a few large pines 2 mainly in the area that will be filled and a few small maples / oaks I’m planning on making a temporary space between the fill & the smaller trees using logs etc on the small ones that are still too big to move will be moving a bunch of small saplings but the large pines I believe I have to build a dry well around them to keep the moisture at the roots the fill where the pines are will be 10+ feet deep I don’t want to take down the pines so I’m going to try to build a drywell deep enough & strong enough I might use recycled concrete slabs that will be self supported with rebar & correct placement just wondering if you could point me in the right direction
