Joe Zuray and Samantha (Sam) Wright of Tanana fish in the Rampart Rapids in summer 40 miles upriver of their village. This video shows the scenery around tells a little history about the Rapids while Joe feeds their fishnet into the river while Sam backs the boat out into the fishing eddy at the start of a fishing opening just recently. Coming soon look for "Joe and Sam Check their Fish Net for King Salmon".
Joe and Sam have spent most of this summer at fish camp putting up canned and dried fish products for the winter for themselves and extended family. Along with myself they are the main people who run the fishing gear and boats so about a dozen households here have what they need to cut and supply their needs for winter. This goes on at camps all over the river from the mouth way into Canada. While greatly reduced because of changing times and pressure from commercial overfishing it is the most healthy family lifestyle activity on this part of the Yukon River today and is essential to the future health of the villages.
Best, Stan Zuray
Also "Carry On: Stan Zuray's Journey from Boston Greaser to Alaskan Homesteader" is now available on Amazon in paperback, eBook, and audiobook. Amazon reviews always appreciated. www.amazon.com...
Anyone interested in a signed copy has two options:
Go to: www.thestanpro... and buy a pre signed book (the simplest)
Buy a book on Amazon and follow these instructions. (Many have done this and it has worked well. Done hundreds and no mail failures yet).
1. Get two 12.5 x 9.5" priority mail flat rate envelopes at post office.
2. Self-address and put postage on one envelope.
3. Address other one to: Stan Zuray, Box 77172, Tanana, Alaska, 99777 and put book and other envelope in it (folded) and signing instructions if any and I'll sign and return.
Please send no money - my privilege to sign but an Amazon review would be appreciated. Flat rate both ways will cost you under $15.

We should always try to live an adventure..sadly too many are too afraid..but we only live once! We’re lucky to get only 27,000 days of life! Just 4,000 weekends…puts it all in perspective ..and only 1 or 2 weeks a year to actually enjoy life (“vacation”)😳

Thank you. We actually are trying as a united group of fishermen to not catch the larger king as they have the larger size genes and are the best spawners with the most eggs. We have fought for use of small mesh nets and gear like fishwheels which do not target the larger fish like the now illegal 8,9 and 10" nets. However while fishing a 6" small mesh net an occasional large fish gets tangled and that is what this one was. It was incredible to see however. .
