Lol, I get avg 30fps now on a decent server after a new CPU build but that's usually best case senario. It's pretty bad at times though for many people. With my old 4690k I was lucky to maintain 8-11 fps at Levski. MUCH needed optimization hopefully coming sooner than later pls!

Just in case you didn’t know, the word “Alpha,” when used in the context and presence of game development, means the game is in still in pre release and thus has some issues - the main of which, in regards to Star Citizen, is that of performance. You shouldn’t expect a fully fledged, top performing game when it is obviously still in development! :P

Five years later, with 3.18's new PES and ship soft-death the opening cinematic portion of this trailer is finally fully realized in game! They may look jankier, but we are now really close graphics wise to this pre-rendered sequence, not to mention the ton of gameplay opportunities enabled by them.

As for where star citizen will be I wouldnt be surprised if the procedural cities were in place atleast to some degree. The fps will surely improve now that the delta patcher has been released and of course all the ships that are currently in the development pipeline will be done by then. We might also see some players finally flying Capital ships around the verse since sq42 is coming out soon

There are plenty of bugs (flushed features), but 'fleshed' out features refers to partially implemented or down the pipeline features that are coming soon (TM): mining, exploration, prisoner capture and transport etc.

True - you cannot, in fact, roleplay as a box tumbling into atmosphere. Otherwise, you can have similar experiences. Framerates are inconsistent across PC builds, a lot of features are buggy amd incomplete, server-side tweaks can change your experience from one day to the next; but, you can also have some amazing emergent gameplay moments that give you a taste of what will be possible.

I wish you could see the disappointment on my friends' faces when we finally played 3.0 only to see that it was unplayable. I got them hyped up for this game, got them to buy ships, where we then waited for 3.0 for a long time only to find out it was a bust. I know the game is in development and I understand that, but if you're gonna make people wait for a patch for over a year I at least expect some improvements in performance.

Though I'm a backer and fan of the project and what they are doing, this trailer of sorts is too soon. They shouldn't be putting out something like this tell the game is closer to a finished state. To me this comes off as misleading to people that havn't been following the game and don't understand it's in alpha and rightly full of bugs. And lacks optimization (which it should lack at this point in production). AND it's missing a very large amount of features that are still in the works. Even the characters are kind of place holders at the moment.

What there actually is right now is a real very very WIP alpha. Its something you can only really do with the mindset of testing. Its not fun to play. Its something people used to be payed for. Its tedious. But that is fine because it is an alpha. Expect its not fine when you advertise it as a polished early access kind of alpha. You are getting people into it only to get them disappointed when they get (rightfully) frustrated when trying to play the game. I don´t see the point of this trailer. All this does is annoy people. And that might impact the player count.

I've had pretty great experiences in 3.0, so far, along with some frustrating ones - Alpha testing and this type of crowd-funded development simply isn't for everyone. I love the SC project; but, I feel like this trailer should have been held back for 3.1 optimizations; because, a lot of people are going to look at it and think this is representative of normal gameplay, unaware of the current limitations of the playable Alpha that make a high degree of planning necessary for any significant group activity. That being said, when you have one of those magical instances when everything comes together and creates a positive emergent gameplay experience, you really get a taste for what the project is all about.

Hey CIG in case you read the comments Could we get some limited thrust jet packs and rock-climbing gear for planetary exploration? Maybe a thruster-pack with a 1 to 5 second burst adjusted for gravity. Those canyons on Daymar are literally asking to be climbed and explored. I think it would add a whole new dimension to game-play, esspecially in verse FPS and exploration moments. Just imagine (as seen in the video) being attacked at that downed Caterpillar site, noticing the guy in the top right, (enters full sprint) Thruster-packs up to his position, finishes off enemy before landing on top of the Caterpillar. Then from your new and better attack position you proceed to rain fire from above. Meanwhile your companion takes the opportunity of the enemy's confusion finish them off himself. 2:18 I don't mean to be pushy but I think it would be pretty cool.

Good footage but to be honest - 15-25 FPS even lower at Levski - Most missions are not working - AI ships invulnerable or broken - Nox does not fly well - Prospector has no gameplay, it's just a ship - Mobiglass transparant hard to read UI - Ship UI hard to read on certain ships - Ship behavior works bad when powering off and on - Earned credits have no real meaning as there is not much to buy - Combat is bad and boring Nice trailer though, but this should probably be a 3.1 trailer.

The game is just not fun in it's current state, if you can even call it playable. Any time I make a modicum of progress, my cargo disappears, or my ship thinks it's been blown up when it's sitting on the landing pad, or the client crashes. All I'm left with is how I just spent an hour trying to make progress, only to have the payoff taken away. I still have faith in a good game eventually, but man, it's just too frustrating for me to put any more of my time into testing it.

The fps was better is all that it was and later it will be better. Right now in the new small update 3.0.1 I can find servers with 30+ fps but it stills stutters a lot. Before it was around 5-20 fps.

This is a beautiful piece of advertising for the game. Star Citizen is starting to live up to its promises. However: It's alpha. I know, I know... Alpha (tm), but it's not finished. Alpha = BUGS! And there are A LOT of bugs. Combat, framerates, missions, ships, they're all buggy. CIG doesn't have any of these things right YET. Yeah yeah yeah it's been 5 years, 6 years, whatever. It's gonna take longer, whether you like it or not. So deal with it.

Having logged over a dozen hours in 3.0.1, I'm surprised at how unrepresentative of the actual gameplay experience this trailer is. Actual play experiences: Leave Crusader station, try and relearn controls to jump to target. Get jumped by another player whose system hangs as soon as he hits my shields, leaving him on a straight vector with guns blazing for a few minutes. Try desperately to wrangle the flight controls at 2-3 FPS to do some passes on him. Despite a lot of experience in Arena Commander in previous builds, can't overcome his shield regen before his system sorts itself out and he starts responding again. Repeat a few times before his system calms itself enough to get a missile kill on me. Log into Star Marine. Wait by myself in a lobby for 20 minutes for 5 other players to join to start a match. No one else shows up, leave. Re-enact that super cinematic re-entry scene in this trailer. Eject and let my ship fall with me. System hangs a few times during the fall. Hit the ground, take no damage, lag seems worse on ground. Ship bounces and takes no damage, walk over to get in, am killed by physics malfunction walking up the ramp. I really, really, really wish this was the game that 3.0.1 was, as I'd dearly love to play it, but like others have said, the FPS are abysmal this build. Walking around a station is a single-digit FPS experience, going outside drops to 2-3 FPS, and fighting, jumping, etc. drops to way less than 1 FPS. Was getting a playable 20 FPS in the previous build. Friend of mine has a beast of a machine and is getting the exact same FPS as me.

mansuy adrien one of the things im stoked about for this game. Unless you are in a group with someone, you will have no blatant indications of whether they are an npc or player. Im sure paying attention to subtle behaviors will clearly indicate a player (tea-bagging and goofing off probably Wont be npc behaviors)

The resources spent making a trailer like this is negligible, not to mention required, when it comes to crowd-funding projects. As a neutral observer in star citizens progression through development, I have to say it is interesting watching its community basically turn on each other. The nay-sayers just think that the game is a tech demo over-promising on features that won't be possible to bring into the game. But the people commenting on the current status of 3.0 are actually just the people playing the game who support star citizen. It is interesting how some devoted supporters of SC basically lump these people together in order to invalidate any negative feedback about star citizen, even if they are actually just the supporters of the game being vocal about their experience 👀

Yes, you are right, it is in alpha state. For so many years. Its like someone would announce: " I can't build a flying car using money from huge investors (publishers) - they will destroy my point of view of this flying car turning it into something bad just so ppl can buy it - without any soul." I can get that and totally agree, so do backers. But... than what is happening: "I am creating my flying car, but it is so hard and long process, so I can give you early versions of this car, so you can enjoy it (not for free ofc), its not flying at all YET, but you can buy some paint jobs for this car - very huge variations. There are few bugs even driving this car (not flying), but it is early version." And in the end what we got: that dude is not making car of his dream, that will fly. That dude is making videos making of (to satisfy so many backers) and paint jobs for so many years, instead of making this goddamn car. It is turning to prolonged version of destroying a very nice idea by huge investors. Prove me wrong if this game will be released withing 2-3 years and will be really good at what it was first about in the dream of creator.

All I say is my opinion, that is different to many others that I am reading here. I am worried about game more than some backers, that think that everything that they ask to make "as community" is actually ruining the game. Don't you heard enough of examples of early access games that ended up in timeless alphas/betas just to implement some features that community is asking? And you know why this is happening? Because developers depend on that community (backers), as much as they depend on huge investors (when there is such). So my analogy is really close to what we can see here, its just you can't see it. Maybe we all gonna back up some writer that is writing huge novel, and after that every backer will imply something in that novel? Wow, so professional it would be, because everyone of backers is writer (developer) ;). Is idea of this game was brilliant? Yes. Is it implemented? No. But, you can buy numerous ships and watch numerous videos, that are slowing down development process, but you think it is ok. I think that is the same if they would have an investor, or even worse, because investors, sometime, know what they are doing.

I kinda agree with OP. It plays alright for me usually just under 30 fps. But my wifes computer oh man she cant play it all. So guess who get a build a new computer for the wife lol. Yeah a lot of people can play it lot of people cant. 3.1 looks promising to get it playable for most. It wouldnt been a bad idea to wait till 3.1 to make a trailer. Your only talking about 2 more months from now. That would have been a better time. Someone who doesnt follow the game very closely is gonna see this "butter server" trailer and think thats all servers are gonna play. They're gonna be a bit disappointed. I see (and accept) your point about expecting bugs/issues in a game that's currently in Alpha. Some people can be prone to impulse buys when they get hyped about a product, most people need to get burned at least once before learning to research something before throwing their money down. Personally, I'd be willing to wait 'til 2025-2030 for the game to come out of Beta if it meant the game was closer to what was originally promised.

star marine and arena comander run well ahead the 60-90 fps on a decent machine , but for 3.0 well yes 20-30 fps is probably the best most will get out of it ... but its a unoptimised version of the game wich incorporate so much tech and features that we cant expect it to be " optimised " sadly while for peoples like me who enjoy combat mostly have to wait till its more optimised to enjoy 3.0 but for peoples who like cargo etc.. it will still be playable for them and will help to refine the systems
