@Cander5142

To me the 3.0 demo is the first time SC looks like a game and not a tech demo and have avoided playing the current alpha universe. 3.0 will be the first time I start playing it.
@orioncorgard7111
@orioncorgard7111 8 жыл бұрын
To be fair it's in an alpha and well the term is used more ambiguously it's suppose to mean internal testing. It's suppose to be a tech demo fleshing out into a game and 3.0 seams to be the point where the game starts to show. Now there are countless reasons why CIG have an almost public alpha (Chris Roberts thinking of the fans as if they're the board at a software company, the ability to test multiplayer functionality with more than just the people at the company, ect) but you're right as think of star citizen as a tech demo until now.

Not the most efficient system hence why the view didn't always switch in a timely manner. Still Jared's fault. :P

They use the same explanation that Eve Online uses, sim sound, your ship/suits computers analyse events and project them as audio input in a simulated atmosphere to help with spacial awareness. Doesn't really make 100% sense, but only hearing internal sounds would get dull, they do it on some maps in Mechwarrior online, and it's fun, but limiting.
@coaltionforces
@coaltionforces 8 жыл бұрын
If you want a truly realistic space sim there is rogue system coming out in a year or so, its like the DCS of space sims. No sound from space and all that realistic stuff, with buttons on the control console for every function check it out.

It's called an investment. Some people don't want to invest in something they aren't certain of, they rather buy something that is out now and is completed. For example, if by any reason the game can't be completed or flops (turns out to be an over hyped pile of trash) well then their goes the investment; money you won't be seeing again. So, they aren't retarded; they just won't take the risk.

Give Braben a break, at least ED is out and was produced in half the time of SC on a made from scratch engine with a budget of £8 million. SC on the other hand is what another 6 years from release as I keep seeing and hearing people talk about how the game supposedly not even 20% done and the games production budget is larger than what ED has even made in sales plus what they got from crowd funding to develop the game. Everytime I think about SC all I can picture is every SC developer lounging around on there own personal Yachts spending like 5 minutes a week actually working on the game while the rest of the time is spent sipping Myties and laughing at all the people still hyped over the game and throwing money at content they have yet to produce.

Well, to be fair, it's like 10-12 devs with a few million bucks versus hundreds with over $100 mil now. NMS's fatal flaw was it's stupid AAA price and refusal to acknowledge what it really consisted of. If Elite is the miles wide and inch deep of gameplay, NMS is the planet sized millimeter deep gameplay.
@W4ldgeist
@W4ldgeist 8 жыл бұрын
I really think the gameplay of NMS is not its main flaw. I think the size is. Because only the idea of an unlimited space to explore sounds intriguing. The reality of it is as fun as 1000 square kilometer grass plane here on earth. After a while you've seen every combination of grass types. It gets repetitive really quickly. At its core the NMS gameplay is a subset of Minecraft, but spread thin across gazillions of kilometers of only mildly varied terrain/biomes. They could not ever make that fun. But that universe what got the game hyped. If they would've done it like SC and built a more focused, couple of galaxies with more story and combined the excellent idea to use SuperFormula + artist input and hand crafted places then the game would've never gotten the hype it got. Sadly sometimes what we think we want as gamers is not really what we enjoy to play.

***** NMS is hardly a shitty game. It's experience just doesn't last through the "game's runtime". The first couple of hours are really awesome. It just tapers off too quickly. And Star Citizen is not vaporware, because it exists, we've seen and played the parts of it. vaporware was Duke Nukem Forever for ages, with only vague trailers etc. or Daikatana. But Star Citizen is just a yet unfinished game.
@W4ldgeist

How is what we've seen even possible on a technological point of view? I mean the fluid transitions in a space as huge as a solar system. The fact that everything is connected, like space stations aren't even instantiated. You fly around on the planet and at the same time, in the same space, there's people in your ship and on ground all interacting with the world. What monster of an engine have they created? If they deliver, this might be the definitive space game and set new standarts for years to come. IF!

Why are people comparing this to No Man's Sky? It's an indie game made by less than a dozen people with 1/20th the budget. I think it's a complement to a game for it to be compared with Star f****** Citizen.
@tacoblocko
@tacoblocko 8 жыл бұрын
I think it's just cause it's in the same genre. (Space sim type games), though I disagree with comparing a game JUST based on their genre.
@MahBones
@MahBones 8 жыл бұрын
Probably because it's also an indie game - yes, you're welcome to read the meaning of the term, which was started by a team of four. The fact that it has received huge public funding doesn't in any way alter how it came to be or that it's not funded by commercial interests. It's also a space game which allows you to leave your ship to explore in person, so I'm really not sure why they get compared at all, no common ground, clearly. Push come to shove though, No Mans Sky is out and playable, so enjoy it, Star Citizen is still a long way from multiplayer release with all the hurdles that involves.
@deadzombies4496
@deadzombies4496 8 жыл бұрын
MahBones They're both indie games and both share the genre. But they're clearly targeting separate audiences. Its the same thing when you talk about cyber-punk and hard sci-fi. They're both in the sci-fi genre but target separate audiences within the genre. In terms of gameplay too, its like you're comparing Battlefield's jet flying and handling with Microsoft Flight Simulator. They're not meant for the same audience even though the core package allows one to fly a plane.
@MahBones
@MahBones 8 жыл бұрын
Personally I wasn't comparing them, I get why people are though. I am target audience to both games too and ED, like a lot of people I grew up with an abundance of space games, then they stopped - so the more the merrier IMO.

So exciting ! The game is really taking shape ! One thing though... Is it just me or does the heavy armor seems really really OP ? (I know it's in alpha, but still, just asking) Also, I think the pirate base shouldn't be on the radar immediatly, it would be funnier if you had to scan the planet to find it, and it would give a job to do to the copilot.

the developers want to game to be realistic and all yes. but realism shouldn't "ruin" the gameplay aspect of the game. the developers intentionaly made it so that ships and players really can take a punch instead of a 1-2 shot death. if you were to travel from one galaxy to another, explore an entire city to find a guy with a mission for you, you go to the next system to land on a planet from which you need to walk a good distance and a enemy fires 1 bullet to the head and you''ll die instantly. it will ruin the game so to say. that is why ships take quite some damage before they go down and same goes for players. it gives the game alot more action and thrill.

I'm going to hold a safe scepticism for it all until I can do it and do it stably without crashing but i'm all for you taking your time and making it right. Good work so far. I know you guys get a lot of hate for things but just remember you are making something great. Not just star citizen, but an idea and dream made real. It takes time so dont rush, dont cut corners, and keep up the good work. Some people seem to want this to fail and those are the small group that just likes to shout at things others like. Dont get discouraged and dont do this for us or for them. Make this the game and art you want it to be. If you do that it will be worth the wait. Star Citizen has inspired the return of a genre and inspires people to keep making space games like they used to, that alone makes this game a success to me. If this game sucks I will rip it apart and you can be sure I wont go easy on it even if its great. But the influence alone makes me grateful for its existence.
