Elite dangerous had a kickstarter up around the same time as CIG started their grift. Fdev had a functional beta out within two years. Mean while star citizen is just the grift that keeps on grifting. Hell elite is almost abandonware at this point and still has far more content than CIG will ever produce.

@@nikushim6665 I'm not sure that's true, the content in SC is ships. Elite has 41 ships, SC has 190, and plan on 250. They are basically stuck on endlessly making more ships because that's the only way to keep the money coming. It's hard to compare planetary locations because they are clones but I think SC has more. Elite certainly does not have mini city type locations like SC has, or the sprawling camp outposts - though there's not much to do at those.

I'm a 2,000 CHF Star Citizen backer and understand your points-this project is far from finished, and only heaven knows when it ever will be. I started with the Mustang Alpha package for 35 CHF back in 2016, and over the years, I’ve gradually invested more. This year, I hit the 2,000 USD mark (couldn’t resist the Ironclad-it just looked too cool). That said, most of my clan members share the sentiment that it may never become a fully finished game. The bugs can be frustrating, but the visuals are stunning, and the flight mechanics feel incredible. We’ve learned not to pay much attention to the promises they make and simply go with the flow. As a group of mostly 30- and 40-somethings with families, we’ve come to enjoy the slower-paced gameplay elements like mining and salvaging. It fits our lifestyle well since we can’t dedicate time to gaming every day. That’s the main reason we stick with Star Citizen and are okay spending around 200 bucks a year on it. If you haven’t already, I’d also recommend giving Elite Dangerous a try. It’s still one of the games I enjoy the most.

I actually enjoy the tedious parts of the game, but unfortunately you can't have it take that long to do basic things and have the possibility of bugs ruining your entire session, as an example. I rented a ship with my starter cash to do some basic missions, got a couple done but next day when I tried to get on, elevators were broken, now I have no way to make back the money to rent a ship again and it destroyed the entire gameplay loop, because of elevators, something that has been an issue from what I can tell THE ENTIRE TIME THE GAME HAS BEEN OUT IN ALPHA, how can this games community constantly support devs who simply do not care about the enjoyment of the community? if the elevators are broken, then change the mechanic so that you can quick travel to them, remove it when you fix the physics engine and interact options. I have never seen a community so willing to turn around and take back shots over and over and over again, this is what gaming has become in 2024, broken overpriced content being released and people just accepting it as the norm, game devs will continually get away with this if people do not start actually speaking out about the glaring issues in star citizen and gaming in general, 10 year alpha and almost a billion dollars is unacceptable, you can not tell me that any of you could not make this game work with a billion dollars, even an ape could hire more competent programmers.

I love seeing multiple viewpoints on the project. I haven’t spent, nor do I intend to more than the starter package. I probably have over 1000hrs in the project at this point, and put up with the bugs because in it’s current state Star Citizen delivers a level of immersion that isn’t available in any other game. That’s the thing for me. There is nothing else that comes close. I always give other games a go, but come back to SC’s emergent gameplay every time. Also, while I understand the negatives to hull limited ships, I also like the fact that there won’t be hundreds of Javelins flying around in a 1000 player shard. This game has some incredible lore behind it, and military-class capital ships should be for large orgs only, and not something you see every 5 minutes.

BEFORE YOU BUY note that one of the "bugs" is that CIG will randomly delete any of your in-game earned ships when releasing a patch. This never happens to real money ships, only the ones you earn in game. The ones that take weeks of work to earn. This "bug" has been present for many years and support say they don't have any ability to restore lost ships.

I've worked out that if I did the most profitable cargo run in a Starlancer on my own (to maximise profit), risking 1.3m per run, and never losing, it would take at least 5 months to earn back just the last 5 ships they deleted. Then I'd be back to zero. Though of course they'd delete more ships in that time, and doubly of course 4.0 will delete them all. I'm actually in favour of a full wipe but random ship deletion makes the game pointless.

yeah due to major changes they have to reset? its not to delete it because they hate you. its because new core functions get added that can break current ships you own or bug current money you have or your character model. So they just reset your character to prevent a slew of complaint tickets about broken items... there is a bug deleting items randomly but you are playing an alpha. if you really like a specific ship buy it with real money or stop complaining. tell your logic to Rust players and they will tell you to stop crying as well about resets and lost items.

If this was a bug they somehow could not fix after a decade, with paid ships magically being immune, they could give support the ability to restore ships. It is trivial for a program to store a list. ​@@leslieviljoen paid ships are carefully monitored due to laws and protections for the consumer. its not magic by any stretch of the mile. they explicitly state in-game earned content could be lost during updates or changes. they dont have to help anyone. im sorry you didnt get that memo, sir. i acknowledge the bug has been around for a long time. i have pledge ships before i knew the issue was ever there. so i have no problems. i acknowledge it needs to be fixed. from an objective/unbiased standpoint the project is a total mess. if its too much for you i understand. Workarounds for your problem: Make friends in Star Citizen (takes 5 minutes) Ask in open comms for credits to help get a ship. credits roll in. Ask to be apart of a large mission in open comms. a party invite will come. Ask for help running a mission. players will come to help. echo chambers are not the solution.

Keep in mind he previously said that they ALREADY had 110 star systems in the game, like, 8 years ago. They're planning to ship with 3. This is not the game anyone was promised. Also, those 110 star systems that were initially promised didnt even have anything of interest. Planets werent real planets, just backdrops/empty spheres. There wouldve been loading screens everywhere AND most importantly those 5 Star systems (Stanton, pyro, terra, nyx, castra) will have more locations and Personality than all of those inital 110 star systems COMBINED. These wouldve been the features those 110 star systems wouldve had: A few landing zones, loading screens, maybe a bit more introduction to the lore but other than that it wouldve been starfield with even worse graphics and you'd be even more confined to a single zone/space. Do you even remotely realize how much of a difference there is between ONE star system back in 2012 vs ONE star system in 2024? I have still not forgiven Chris Roberts for the terrible writing of Wing Commander 3. Wing Commander 2 cautiously tried to make the conflict between humans and kilrathi more complex and flesh out the latter's culture. But because that was done without Chrissy's involvement he turned the kilrathi into whisker-twirling cartoon villains in WC3 who apparently can't spend a minute of their day without thinking of committing some gratuitous atrocity. And they turned Hobbes into a brainwashed double-agent. And the gameplay went down the crapper too, even though some people might not wanna' hear this. I bought the game, starter ship for 40 quid or thereabouts, played it for about a month. Nothing in the video was in the game. Fair enough. I jumped the gun. But AFAIK, none of it is in the game still, today, a year later. I remember not being able to do PVE missions because all the enemies would either spawn outside the map or would fall through the floor. No patches to fix this for the entire month I played. That is one example of the compotency of the developers. But more worrying: I started to notice that the design direction and culture is just completely wrong. Exploration as a gameplay loop, for example. There's one star system. One. People buy ships to "explore it." Explore what? You can fly across it in an hour. Oh, Pyro, a second system. Two hours. These are deep-space long-haul exploration ships. Anyone who cannot see that "exploration" is either going to be randomly generated instances, or else just a traditional MMO quest, is surely a true believer. But people honestly think that they are going to be Captain Kirking it across the unknown reaches of uncharted space in the (IIRC) Carrick. Half the ships people have bought and paid for are designed around mission mechanics and gameplay loops that just cannot make any sense without majorly revamping massive chunks of the core game design. It's madness. I'm sure one of them is a bloody TV news camera van thing. The amount of gullibility that goes into thinking that there will ever be TV stations in the game... Let alone player ran TV stations... Let alone MULTIPLE player ran TV stations. It's just insanity. But they need to hype it up to sell it. And instead of adressing these issues instead its: "BTW I watched a ping-pong tournament this weekend so we're proud to announce we are working on full ping-pong simulation to be added to the game. And here is our next ship, the TournymentiDX, a dedicated ping poing tournament ship, to host and broadcast all your P.P. tourneys across the verse! Buy it now for only $250!"

Let me clarify some things here because theirs clearly some misunderstandings: The reason it takes so long to finish, is because they had to build up a whole company from 4 to over a 1000 ppl from skretch while working on 2 diffrent games and developing their own engine and technology. That takes a huge amount of time. The most money goes into Squadran42 (the singleplayer story version of SC) right now. They've released a 1hr gameplay showcase of the game and it looks amazing. Star Citizen is NOT(!!) pay to win!! Yes, the ships are overprized but you can buy every ship ingame. Those big expensive Ships arent bettern then any small one. If you would fight a against a guy with a giant ship even if youre flying just a small fighter, you'd win because those overprized ships need up to 25 real players to operate correctly. I know the game isnt in a good state, but its still in alpha and still has achieved things that other games could have never.

The Xeno Threat event a couple month's back was legitimately some of the most fun gameplay that can be experienced in a multiplayer game, and it has been cool to be part of the development cycle, providing feedback, and being heard by the developers. Seeing your direct feedback improve the game is incredible. Sure, presenting the Alpha in a playable state exposes CIG to criticism, but it also pulls back the curtain in a very human way that no other dev has done before.

True facts. I wouldn't recommend to spend in videogames more than one person reasonably would spend in a videogame. Spending hundreds is already insane in my opinion (i do not judge billionaries who waste their grand peanuts) and also spoils the company to take it more easy than it should. Another thing is there are 2 games in the making where it was originally going to make one. The ideas couldn't fit the technology when the project began, so Company started to create a single-player game which now seems to be closer to have a release date, but the MMO is still a WIP. This is buggy, incomplete and lacks purpose in the gameplay available, at the moment.

I was very tempted to jump into this game. It does look good and is exactly the sort of thing that I would like. The thing that stopped me that they sell ships for thousands of dollars. I think that's predatory behaviour. I highly doubt that many of the people willing to drop so much can truly afford to. Rich people usually get rich by not wasting money like that.

Your review was spot on man! Every person who disliked your vid is off their rocker. I picked it up in 2018 ( 6 YEARS ago) and it still plays terribly in 2024. The argument of "it's an alpha, it's not out yet", try telling that to their marketing team and their legal department. Game's been released since 3.0 (December 2017) yet they pretend like it hasn't been. It's fair game to review it.

The question is why still is an Alpha instead of why an Alpha is buggy and incomplete. My guess is the project it's been improvised. They did spend years piling ideas, being blocked by tech limits and then overhauling. The reality with the ships proves this. They need to upgrade almost all ships because they keep adding features not present and not even considered at the time when the ships were created, at the same time they added features to the ships for a gameplay they have not put in the game yet, trying to move ahead of the possible need they might have but not really knowing if that would be discarded. For example the freezer. There no gameplay related to keep food cool. Food does not root, there no need of kitchens because there no cooking, and there's no need of bathrooms because there's no gameplay related, yet. They'll keep it? Back in the day they wanted to have the full "The SIms" expericence, do they want it still now? I don't know the answer.

I saw that you seem to be pretty responsive so I thought I'd throw my hat in. I think an apt comparison here for SC would be to the NFT market that crashed a while back. Folding Ideas' video "Line Goes Up" is how I learned the most about the NFT trend so I'm a bit of a lay person, definitely not an expert. I feel like SC probably deserves a similar level of critical analysis as what NFT's got by Folding Ideas at some point. I also think that SC is definitely more ethical than NFT's, which are a straight up scam, so it's probably a bit more complicated than a straight scam. You kind of hinted at this towards the end of your video but I wish you'd given it an extra five minutes or so to really expand on that idea. It looks like the future of SC is sort of a toss up right now- it might or might not get completed. It feels more like this to me; a super risky donation for whales and a one time purchase to poke around at for your average person who can afford it. At the end of the day it's still art, even if it's super garrish and unpolished. But yeah most people aren't dumb enough to go buy a multi million dollar piece from the Lourve. What do you think?

I feel like there are other factors as well, the vast difference in types of players being a huge one. This game can be the biggest time suck I have ever seen but for my old ass and the friends I play with, we enjoy a little noodle. We semi-role play and enjoy mundane tasks like loading and unloading cargo and salvaging ships. I am about $150 in and I voiced a similar concern to one of my friends who has an undisclosed amount in his game. One of the points he made is that his payments into the game are less than the monthly payments for most MMORPGs out there. I would agree that there are some outrageous extremes involved in this whole thing. When it's good, it's really good, like what a lot of us have always wanted in a game like this. When it's bad, it is so bad. Bad enough to take breaks that can last weeks or months, hoping the next patch will fix it. Anyone who plays will understand that I got military grade PTSD from 3.18. A lot of us in the trenches did. It's nice to hope that eventually this project will reach a stable, playable version and that might be a different thing for each player. Scam? Maybe, I mean who really knows the dev's intent and if those intents have shifted over time. But, there is actually something here. So much more than many kickstarters have produced. It's gets better over time. It has. I've seen it from about 2019 until now and I have gotten hundreds of hours of play and over 5 years it has cost me $150. That's not bad. I have all the ships I want in game, yeah, they'll get wiped but I know how to replace them. It just takes time. I guess that's really what it comes down to. What is your time worth?

you didnt mention the bugs and crashes and shit going on join server for 10 minutes, cant get out of bed bug, character repair from website, rejoin server for 10 minutes, get out of bed go to ship claim ship, QT to a destination just to realize your ship is suddenly UNRESPONSIVE and only a serverchange is the solution... suddenly you aggain CANT GET OUT OF BED... this game stole A LOT of hours from me... i WANT to play the game but it doesnt let me very often. after 1 year of star citizen, i even think about pledging to a M2 Hercules... but i think i will wait until i can AT LEAST play the game for a few hours straight

I really enjoyed this video. I've been playing Star Citizen for 3 years, and it pains me to say it, but you're right. This is why I play the game without dropping a car payment on it. SC has many problems and is practically a landfill for garbage like unholy amounts of server desync, missing features that were promised eons ago, an atrocious new player experience - need I say more? It's a disaster right now and will continue to be for a long time. I'm sorry to my fellow citizens out there, but it's true. However, the reason I've been playing for 3 years and will continue to do so is because when the game works, it delivers some of the best moments I've had in gaming... ever. The best way I've heard someone put it is that the game is like being addicted to crack. It's not good. It doesn't make you feel good a lot of the time. However, sometimes it does work, and the memories I can share from these moments are unforgettable. This game is not for everyone, and I'm not even going to say that everyone should try it. What I am saying is that it attracts certain types of people, and I mean very certain types of people. Those of us who play SC play for different reasons, but despite my support in the project, I will not let my emotions blind me from the predatory ship sales and other business tactics CIG has been pulling more and more. To anyone who is thinking about trying SC: If you can't play an unfinished mess and are sick and tired of CIG making promises they may or may never deliver, stay the f away for now. If you can push through the lack of content, the bugs, the BS business tactics, and the pain of not being able to deliver your cargo or complete your bounty mission, but can cherish the moments where Star Citizen gives you a taste of what the game can be and what we all want it to be, you will always be wanting to come back for more.

I got this game many years ago on a $20 backer. I finally played it this year. Took my ship out for a spin, tried to dock like the tutorial said, got stuck INSIDE a portion of the spaceport, blew up and lost my ship. Def a pretty void of space. Oh and I didn't have "insurance" on my ship, so it's gone for good.

uh you never played the game. you can just request your ship back at the ASOP terminal... Insurance isnt even implemented yet. Since your ship is probably an Aurora you can just pay a small amount of credits and get it back instantly. Ships you pay real money for dont just disappear. That's literally fraud. I like, many others, donated/pledged a dollar amount I could afford to support the development of this game. I have had countless hours of entertainment flying around a solar system and raising hell in a way no other game can provide. It is open world, no script and that makes it a ton of fun. If you can think of it, you can probably do it in this game. There are a ton of flaws, there is no way to win this game, there are countless wipes of progress, but, I can jump in this game, catch you off your guard, kill you and steal your ship or not.

To try and be charitable by saying the game is half done implies it will be alright after 30 years of non-stop development. ANY developer can make a decent game in three decades when supplied with infinite money. The skill is in not needing infinite time and resources to ship a nice game about spaceships, something Elite: Dangerous, Eve: Online, Star Wars: Squadrons, and others have done in less time for less money. For some context, Bungie made the entire Halo trilogy in 10 years.

It's never been tried. I guess it remains to be seen whether it works out or not. God knows, I hope it does.... It would be nice to see something for my investment. edit: I think it's about time that people start taking risks when they're developing games again. A lot of the problem with the industry right now, is that people are only going with ideas that are completely safe, mostly ripoffs of each other. ie, hero shooters. It's good to see someone take a chance now and then, right? If no one took a chance on new tech and stuff, we'd never have DOOM or anything. Im a long time player and spend about $150 USD on my Zues mk2 and I agree the game often feels like a scam. Other times it feels like one of the coolest games ever made (When things work). The game seems to break between new patches and they keep changing how the game works. This last patch is mostly unplayable if you want to make some money. Unless you want to wear out your salvage gameplay loop. I wish they just perfected version 1 of the game and years later came out with version 2 instead of spending 10 years messing around with the same version. I strongly disagree people paying thousands of dollars for ships when you are supposed to earn them in game. This might be the beginning of a real Matrix that people get trapped in and invest too much real life into.

The game is also very skill-based, so players who earn the ships in the game usually play a lot better than those who buy them. One guy in my org owns two of the most expensive packages, and he rarely plays the game. Not seen him online in two years. The game is also in a transition period for 4.0 and server meshing, so most bugs won't be fixed until after 4.0. So from every small patch from now on will be more and more broken until 4.0 releases. 2/10 originality since there are like 1000 other videos like this one. But at least you use new footage instead of clips from 2015 like most of the others do, so you get points for that. But I only watched like 20 seconds of the video so I could be wrong.

PLEASE Please review the 4.0 update that is coming ALLEGEDLY soon , i wouldn't go so far as to call it a scam but it definitely shouldn't have as many problems as it does now , but there is something 80% ish of the community agrees on . after 4.0 there's no more excuses they gotta start polishing because for years they hid behind the " server meshing will change the game so we would rather wait until its implemented so we don't have to redo everything " which is a kind of valid point , luckily server meshing was tested 3 times already and devs announced there would be a new test roughly every week , meaning soon they'll have no valid excuses left . id love to see you follow the game from 4.0 forward and hear your valid criticism of every patch afterwards . i root for this game because no one else will ever attempt anything like it and no one has come close to something like it , its one of a kind and that's why i want it to succeed , i have decent fun and daily WOWS in the game and hopefully after their last major tech hurdle in 4.0 they'll make the game more fun and more polished , for anyone wanting to try , do wait for a free fly event , there's one coming soon , whenever it feels ready ENOUGH for you , go ahead and back the game . they do like 4 free fly a year lasting a week long each sometimes 2 . also keep in mind this game had to start by building a studio from scratch , then working in a basement for 4 years , and after acquiring Crytek devs , decided to restart development because the new devs could make fully rendered and explorable seamless planets in 2016 , this was supposed to be originally like starfield full of loading screens and limited landing zones so thats combined with the ambitious tech and covid and working on the story mode is why i cut them SOME slack ... they still suck Hella bad sometimes tho

Politely: Is it so wrong to dream Mr Spoon? We backers are starry eyed at the possibility of what this game could be. It was this or endorse Concord, I'd make the same choice tenfold. I'm not going to dunk on you or your well researched video (you gave the game a chance at least , more than most critics). call me naïve but the slightest possibility of the game not being a scam has me optimistic. Give it a whirl next decade, with any luck it'll be in a better place XD !!!

​The game isn't really a good representation of the vision. It's more like a tech demo I think. Some players aren't going to enjoy it mainly because it's not really a game right now. It's a sim arcade that is being heavily developed behind the scenes and never could make deadlines because of the complexity of systems they plan. A lot of the dev time has been simply building out the infrastructure and engine to make the rest of the game. ​It's just now starting to become possible to server mesh in a limited form, but they are on the cutting edge of what's possible currently. I'm going to put this out there, I got really into it for a bit because of the awesome scope, but the bugs turned me away, not forever but until 1.0 is reached. In the mean time I play other games and revisit it on KZbin to see how it's doing. I've spent a lot in game enough to reach concierge tier. All because I think it's worth the gamble. @@mcspoonz
