For me this is one of the best assets that Star Citizen has and while it's not unique it still been designed in a really thoughtful way and is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. No doubt Eve influence is in there too and many other previous or current games maps parts have been incorporated to make this what it now is.

The green band really doesn't mean that much though, since many other factors such as atmospheric composition, greenhouse gases (or lack thereof), as well as alternative heat sources (or lack thereof) like tidal forces, radioactive decay, etc. could make the surface of a planet outside the 'green band' relatively earth-like in terms of temperature.

By the time of release 16 gigs of ddr6/hbm will be standard with 32 gigs of ddr5 for system memory I wouldn't worry about upgrading any time soon. Games for the time being will be built to run on this gens consoles. The real question is will star citizen be able to run on next gen consoles and if so, would cig put it on console. I can see the shitstom already.

If you want floating forest ecosystem design I could help. I've ever written a paper on that in a journal. A proper floating ecosystem would need several species of buoyant plant. Landing on an ocean should not be hard with 29th century technology. The space shuttle is the only space ship we on earth have built so far that would not float. Loading a ship on a floating platform is another matter.

Its been like a year since I've gotten my aloted share of lore guys! I'm entitled to at least one lore post a week! Not one every month or so dammit! I live down the street from your Austin office... is that where the lore team is? Can I just come over and get a little bit of lore? Just enough to tide me over for the next few months until you guys decide to make another 10 minute episode, 1:30 of which will be your standard intro and 30 seconds of which will be spent crying as I hear the words, "well that's it for this episode", while I reflect between sobs on the countless hours I've spent refreshing the page... just to see last months episode... leering at me like my wife when I tell her I'm going to miss another one of our kids birthdays to make sure I don't miss the next lore makers guide... its all Ive got until 4.0 makes this game playable... just one lore... for old times sake.

I know AA all too well lol There will be no land shortage in Star Citizen though, all the current player accounts could have a land claim and in total would very easily fit on one moon ! There are going to be 100's of planets and moons in UEE space that can be populated, literally Billions of square kilometers of area to choose from.

Can the lore team come up with an alternative name to the 'Cold War'. You would think the UEE population would have created slang or terms like the 'Mesors' Rancor' but instead of reflecting off of the U.S. and Soviet cold war it would more in tune with the Star Citizen universe.

That's like objecting to calling something a "civil war" because of the American Civil War. A cold war is essentially when you have two sides that aren't fighting openly but have their "finger on the button".

Kyzar has a point. Very seldom in history are there repeats in naming of a major event. The social perspective of the people alive at the time of the similar incidents are generally very dissimilar. So naming the UEE and Scion cold war something different would be very historically and aesthetically appealing. The Perry Line War. The Perry Line Years. The Cold Line War. The Line War. Etc.

Well you're in luck because that's what this game is all about! Take a ship with a couple of your buddies and go check that place out! Build an outpost there if ya like! I'm interested in that asteroid belt, sounds like it might have some valuable resources. Perfect for a prospector, just have to remember to take an escort.

haha yeah man. I'm currently testing alpha 3.0 with the first wave of PTU (public test universe) testers. It's freaking awesome, and we're currently at 50 people per server. It's actually surprisingly lively even with only 50 people. As more play area gets added, so too will the server population. I expect server pop. to increase dramatically with the release of alpha 3.1 as that is when the major net code improvements are slated to be implemented. Currently, net code is what's holding the performance back more than anything, but we're getting there! Even 50 people is a huge step up from 24 :) Fingers crossed 3.0 goes live soon! My best guess is shortly after the new year :D Welcome aboard buddy.

I'm sorry, maybe someone more educated in astrophysics can correct me, but.. At first you said the Tohil-0 (the star) was a K4 main sequence star. A K4 star is usually 0.6-0.7 solar mass, not 0.19. On top of that, no K-type star ever found had solar mass lower than 0.45 - so your 0.19 K-type star is a complete paradox. Next, energy emitted by a star is also dependent on its size, among other factors. even K-type stars with solar mass of 1 emit less energy per second than M-type stars (like our Sun), hence the longer lifetime. That moves the "green belt" - goldilocks zone - much closer to the star. Energy dissipates with distance squared, remember. Thereby, Tohil's goldilocks zone should start at 0.08 AU and end around 0.2 AU (give or take). Tohil-1 should then be much closer to be this molten planet - around 0.02 AU. I thought Star Citizen kind of took pride in being accurate and realistic. Instead, it seems to me you're introducing us to a system that defies everything we know about astrophysics. And I just can't decide who to blame for this blunder.. so I'll settle for the content creators who didn't bother to take a crash course in astrophysics. Edit: I realized you said 0.19 brightness, not mass. Even so that still makes the star 0.3 solar mass, tops. The rest of the argument remains.

They say it's a K-type star of magnitude 4 (which is just a bit smaller than our Sun), but then they claim it's only 0.19 as bright as Sun. Well hello, that would make the star maybe 0.38 of our Sun's mass. No K-type star is smaller than 0.45 solar mass. Now, that would put the goldilocks zone (they call it "green belt") at 0.08 - 0.2 AU. While they claim that Tohil-1, the closes planet, is a molten inferno sitting at 0.7 AU. I'm like, what? A planet at 0.7AU around a star that tiny and mellow would be a frozen ball, not a lava-land. And then they put their goldilocks zone around this tiny weenie star to way farther away than our real goldilocks zone is.. That's like wanting to model our solar system and claiming that the habitable planets are somewhere around Pluto..
