As a new player who only started a few days ago, working out my controls (Warthog, X52 Pr, Cougar MFD's) is the biggest pain aside from remembering them all. I watched your video on combat controls and it helped a lot. I'm not really using the X52 pro, per se, but I use the switches at the base of the X52 Pro for powering up systems, request landing/ and the like. Once that's done it doesnt get touched again until its time to land. I want everything else to happen on the Warthog and MFD button boxes, elininating the keyboard and mouse as much as possible.

Thanks for the upload. Im an original backer, but I never took combat seriously in SC because I just died all the time and gave up on combat game play. Now the Squadron is getting close to release, I want to start getting good. I have got Star Citizen working with a Valve Index VR headset using a few tools, opentrack, desktop plus, reshade and some others, its super janky but when its working its really nice to be able to look around in the cockpit.

Standard Controls: Left Stick: X = strafe left right Y = strafe up down z = roll Pedals: push right pedal = throttle forward push left pedal = throttle backward Right Stick: X = yaw Y = pitch I've changed my axes of control majorly at least 10 times. The one I use now is the same standard A1 is using except I use left and right sticks brake levers for roll instead of twist. I agree that changing your settings sets you back each time, and also that any control setup has potential, as long as all 6 degrees are bound. If anyone is unsure what axes to bind their HOSAS to, here's the standard, it's pretty easy to pick up, and makes aiming more intuitive imo.

great video! interesting that you dropped the head position tracking for the tobii. I could see maybe having a toggle to turn it off but having it on is handy depending on your ship. ships that have poor visibility due to pillars or other details that block view then being able to move my head left and right a little to see around a panel in the cockpit is handy. But in pure dogfighting I will admit this is almost never useful really. Its main use is looking up to see if the hangar doors are opened without using 3rd person view. The redeemer for a perfect example has a set of buttons above the pilots head, to see above the ship you can lean to the left and look around these to see directly up. BUT this is a pretty specific use case. on another note I use pedals and really want to drop them, I use a warthog though so with no twist they are my Yaw pedals. I liked them a lot previously however I am sitting on laminate floors these days and the pedals slide sometimes. I cant really rig something up to make them permanent as this PC is used for more then just star citizen. I kind of want to just change my stick for the Virpil alpha prime. but its a lot of money. My throttle is the Virpil which I had to replace the warthog throttle as it died and to get it repaired was going to cost 100 dollars... I decided it just made more sense to replace it. I love the throttle so far and im sure I would like the stick. what are your thoughts on this? with SC getting more and more polished and maybe even SQ42 on the horizon I want to nail down my setup to build up a better muscle memory

I think most people set curves because it makes landings and precision maneuvering a lot better with them. I think it's worth nothing that the no-curves recommendation is primarily a PvP focused decision. I honestly never considered removing axis curves until some of Avengers earlier videos, but once I started focusing more on PvP combat I found that with curves it is much easier to overshoot my opponent just because of the different turn acceleration at different points on the axis. It sacrifices a little bit of smoother gameplay for better combat feel.
@xela-its-me7 ай бұрын
The recommendation is not a primarily PvP one. In all the flight sim games I play I never set curves. Curves fucks up your precision and your brain because you can no longer anticipate precisely the result of the deflection you're about to put since the result ratio is changing all along the curve. If you have problems to make landing you need to learn to be gentle with your joystick. Using the tips of your fingers can help you to learn the process.

In game setting under the Controls heading. You can change the sensitivity by lowering the values. I set mine to 50 for all sensitivity so I only have to move my joystick in any axis by half as much to get full scale output.

Personally, I've never changed the "saturation" of the stick as I like to have 1 to 1 control. Where as the higher that ratio, the less control you have. But in an effort to protect the stick, I can see how that could be appropriate.
@militarymaster077 ай бұрын
Is saturation a stick setting or can it be change within Star Citizen? I'm not super savy and would hate to mess up my sticks completely.
@ForwardKinematics7 ай бұрын
@militarymaster07 I'm afraid to explain, depending on your sticks, and their software it'll have a different name, but it refers to the sensitivity of your stick. For example if I pulled halfway down on my stick but set it to 2:1 50% would be 100 and etc etc.

I can't use my VKB without a curve. Certain inputs like strafing will get stuck unless I either add a substational deadzone or use a curve. But I like the curve anyway because it lets me apply finer control during TOL without fiddling with the speed limiter. I researched the issue and found that I'm not the only one with this problem with VKB Gladiator EVO sticks.

@coviper00197 ай бұрын
Maybe I am misunderstanding the adjustments for saturation on Virpils. You say that one should adjust the extremes of physical movement so that you dont hit the max extents to save the hardware.... I am thinking I set the S curve to hit 100 before I hit the end of physical stick movement... Later in the video you say that we should keep a 1 to 1 ratio.. Just a little confused on where I change the settings to accomplish saturation.

HOSAM for life. I've got 30 years of PC gaming, 18 of them using the exact same make & model of mouse. Giving up my right hand's muscle memory and hand eye co-ordination with my mouse is a massive handicap. OK so my keyboard is all digital input (on or off, pressed or or not,) but my mouse is already an analogue control input. Stick and mouse gives me analogue input on all axis. I found the transition from K/M to HOSAM was really easy and intuitive, and the real advantage is, my stick is beside my keyboard, I just move my hand and I'm back to K/M for all the non-piloting and non-combat ship system controls and movement. I bought a HOSAS setup for SC. The right stick is back in the box, I don't need or want it!

Cannot bring myself to use head or eye tracker after I fell in love with using VR headset in other games. For some reason Star Citizen doesn’t support view changing well. A simple setup of an eight way button on the joystick that snaps to a different view should be better supported by star citizen. It’s not like there is a shortage of buttons on the high end joysticks like VKB or Virpil.

HOTAS describes a concept of arranging peripheral controls on a pilot's primary flight control, such as radar, trim, autopilot, radio, flight management, targeting etc. It does not matter what kind of primary flight control the pilot is using, HOTAS is also found in vehicles other than fighter jet, such as helicopter (collective) or ground vehicles (steering wheel), So if you want to describe your setup of primary flight controls just say 'dual sticks', MKB, S&M whatever but these variations of the acronym HOTAS are difficult to tell apart at first glance and again, that is not what HOTAS means.
