While it would be very cool, I don't really think that would make any sense. As it currently is, you would drive literal days to the next location on most planets. This is a universe where starships have become ubiquitus, ground vehicles are used for leisure and for certain areas otherwise inaccessible. I do however believe a highway systen could work on the very densely populated planets where you'd (potentially) have thousands of POIs, such as Terra.

I wonder how much space will be reserved around the landing zones. It'd be amazing to build a small home somewhere overlooking a city and see the comings and goings. Of course if those spots do exist I'm sure they will be snapped up super quick. Also, many ships right now have furniture in them so I wonder if those will become items that you can remove, craft or place yourself manual in your ship.
@puntmannoor3403 Жыл бұрын
There will probably be initial problems with in game infrastructure, such as habs, hangers and landing pads, but once they free up their hands, they should be able to mass build these systems to fit everyone, there are a 100 systems planned, and once the planetary techs are complete, it will be much easier and faster to make these systems, furthemore, who says 100 is the limit. As for furniture in ships, thought I do not think it is anytime soon, there will be probably at some time in the future more customization and crafting mechanics integrated with the ships we have. Perhaps, they will start of as cosmectic changes such as interior designs but might become more comprehensive. All of these things feels like something Chris Roberts might do, the man is insatiable when it comes to immersion.

Given hat CIG raises funds by selling ships, I suspect that crafting ships will be constrained by some resources needed to make larger ships, like cost of materials and scarcity of blueprints. We might be able to rebuild a derelict Bengal with friends and org members, but we probably won't make a Bengal from only raw materials. Making ships from only raw materials with little cost may be limited to snub ships and ground vehicles for ship-value balancing reasons.

Once the ui changes come in we Sooooo need org tools... Something that strikes me is that this will drive orgs together, not only to gather the resources to build, then construction, followed by its operation and defence, but also in lawless systems like pyro orgs will need to escort haulers to and from the base to locations to sell their wares. It brings together people who want to focus on mining, logistics and defence.

High sec / low sec will also influence the type of building the players make. Mining sites will be in low sec, so you can extract more. Shipyards will be in high sec, so others don't blow them up. Then you'll have to transport materials from one to the other.

I believe that base building was always part of the plan, but way out on a back burner … then we all saw Starfield and the obvious and massive enthusiasm for their base building feature. Next Citizencon and presto - base building has been moved up in CRs priorities. It’s still only a ‘promised feature’ so there are all those grains of salt to be taken with it, but it’s on their radar now, so maybe in 2 or 3 years we will have the basics of homestead … until all those land claims and carefully crafted bases are wiped from existence with a new patch.

I agree and I would add that I'd rather build a "settlement" than a "base" where other people (not only org members) can visit, trade, chill in a bar, buy crafted items in custom shops or even stay in a local hostel, i.e. building a living cosmopolitan town, with automated public transport including roads, stations and ground vehicles ran by npcs for instance. So I have reservations on CIG presentation since, even in concept, it looks very self-centered. I mean players have the right to build their own private base but here I don't see anything on the community/social aspect apart from trading cargo with foreigners eventually. My other concern on the "town" aspect is the lack of verticality of those habitation buildings that reinforce the "just an enhanced production outpost" feeling. I hope that this is just a first draft and that this will evolve over time to offer diversity in the design language, as well as advanced social interactions. That said, it seems promising.

One thing. I guess in the future, the UEE will have to face Vanduul swarms across the verse. I think this is one of CIG's end goal, to have those massive battles where players could play real heroes. And during a war, you need everything in extra quantities and the industry runs at full speed. So, even if you settled in a peaceful location, you could be an essential part of this war as a food/pharmaceutic/weapons/ships/fuel provider, a mercenary, a transporter, a medic, etc. With your base, you could craft those items, being a logistic checkpoint for commodity transport, being a combat base on the frontline of the verse or offering services like extra medic assistance to wounded players and refueling/repairing. Like in the game Foxhole : thousands of players build bases (trenches, bunkers..) and fight at the front while thousands of others stay behind to provide the logistic, craft every single item and war vehicle of the game and transport these across the map to the frontline. So yeah, base building could play a great role. Even the pirates orgs wouldn't stay away. Some of them could be directly involved in the war as Vanduul easy targets or could take advantage of a chaotic situation to expand their illegal activities and conquer UEE's or other players lands. I don't say it this will be absolutely a true thing but the game as it is designed has this potential.

I want to PLAY in Star Citizen, not WORK in it. I hate the term 'End Game' with a passion. And this smacks heavily of End Game, and all that goes with it. Fine if you want to role play a life, a career, fine if your mind set is set towards Orgs and Group play and team play, working as part of something bigger than yourself. @renaudabbadie8154 Жыл бұрын
For the moment, we just know that CIG won't allow the players to practice speculation on lands so in the lore, land claiming should be very regulated and limited by the UEE. As I understand/expect it with the current infos, you or your org should reach differents reputation tresholds toward the UEE to be able to claim multiple lands. Perhaps as a single player, this will be as simple as sharing a part of your own reputation points to your org, so the more members you have, the faster you progress. It would be logical and balanced since a giga org will probably need more lands to accomodate all its members. That said, I wonder how CIG will deal with subscriptions to multiple orgs. For balancing the reputation thresholds needed, one of the multiple questions CIG's designers may ask themselves (next to frequency of playing, missions difficulty and reputation rewards) is how many players can decently house on a single land on average without compromise the rest of the utility buildings, before needing an extra location. Among other things, this calculation could include a minimum empty zone around the base, used presumably for turret defense. But the players could be free to use it anyway.
