Iwata was a great person took a 50% pay cut after the Wii U underperformed so drastically after its release. Trust me if you loved star fox our Zelda the Wii U was your thing that Wii U remaster of windwaker was gorgeous. sadly I don’t think the remaster of twilight princess majora mask our ocarina of time have not been put on the switch I don’t recall if those remasters were Wii U our 3ds release twilight princess got a Wii remaster I think in hd.

As a fellow lover of the two original games "Starfox" (Starwing in Europe) for Super Nintendo and Starfox 64 (Lylat Wars in Europe) for the Nintende 64, I just had to get this game. So I bought this right after its release and was simply blown away by the presentation, the mission design and the gameplay. It was fun, nostalgia, challenging at many times and increased in dramatic and over the top situations on the right occasions. I never got the initial hate press and gamers alike felt towards the controls. It was a bit strange at first, but once you really got into the controls, the game was so much more fun and got way more intense than in Starfox's previous iterations. Loved it from the very first second and I like it just as much as our commonly beloved N64 game. Just a shame it's not really a possibility to bring this hidden gem to the Switch due to its gameplay mechanics and reliance on the second screen.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ve been a fan of Starfox since the SNES and I absolutely loved this game when it was released in 2016. The revamping of the N64 story to make it original and fun while paying major respect to the source material was not lost on me (and many other fans). I didn’t mind the controls, and that says a lot considering I have lost much gaming skill over the years. It was so heartbreaking to see the game get so much hate from the gaming community. Good to see other fans here that enjoyed the game and see it for its many merits. 🙂

What if we had an Avatar in a Star Fox game? Here’s how it would work: 1. You first choose the character’s gender. It can be male, female, transgender, no-binary, demi-girl or demi-boy (I’m more sure about male and female, but who know?). 2. We could choose the species. The choices are: Cat, bird, fox, rabbit, toad (Not like the ones from Mario), wolf, chameleon, pig, monkey, dog, etc. 3. We could obviously choose the fur color and the eye color. The eyes can have different colors. 4. We could choose the name of the Avatar. 5. We could choose in witch team the character is. The choices are: Star Fox, Star Wolf or Neutral. It’ll affect the story for the Avatar, because the bosses will not be the same. 6. We could choose the outfit for the character. Note that the two teams have exclusive outfit, but the Neutral choice allow the player to choose any outfit. 7. We can choose accessories if we want to.

This game was a lot of fun! Zoness was boring as hell, and so were some of the timed challenge levels, but everything else was great! If they ever bring this back on Switch, they can assign one joycon to arwing flight and the other to aiming and firing the laser. I imagine a lot of people would find this game more enjoyable if they only had to focus on one screen rather than two. Also, not having an actual radar was painful.

@@panuru9175 dude, the last new entry in the series before this one was Command in 2006, barring the 3DS remake of 64. The entire series was dead long before this game came around. None of the games in the series outside of the first three were outlandishly bad or boring, just underwhelming at best. Granted, Zero not spectacular, but it’s still decent. I pretty sure Nintendo isn’t interested in making Star Fox games anymore because they just don’t sell well, regardless of how good they are. Same story with F-Zero.

Great job on this terrific game! This was one of my favorites back when it was first released and one of the reasons I keep my Wii U hooked up. I loved the innovations to the game and some of the major twists they took to keep it fresh. The Zoness level was a bit slow-paced for me, I loved the fast fly-through mission on the N64, but it was still good for what it was. The arwing missions are the best but they made all the vehicles pretty cool. Overall, an amazing game I still love to play!

This game will never be on switch because of the control scheme, it’s deeply ingrained into the scoring system, and this game is all about the highscores (like all Star Fox games). If you ever want to try Star Fox Zero and you’re afraid of the controls, here’s my advice: use the game pad for gameplay, play primarily through the cockpit. The tv or cinematic view is for strategy. Always use full gyro. The half gyro limits your ability to play the game properly. Once you learn to use the controls, you need to learn the mechanics of the game. (This full play through does not show everything you can do in Star Fox Zero). Once you master the mechanics and shoot for really highscores, it fundamentally changes how the game is played each time. The medals are learning tools for mastering the mechanics. Each medal gives you a clue on how you can play the game differently, so pay attention. Personally, this is my favorite game of all time. It’s just misunderstood, heavily misunderstood. Don’t let other peoples opinions make you an “NPC”

This is a good game. It gave me nostalgia and new memories when I played it, but looking at two screens was really messing me up, along with recalibrating the laser back in place, and hitting things when All Range Mode was in place, and getting destroyed in the process. Those were the most annoying parts of the game. However, the new mechanics for the Arwing and Landmaster were great, great new dialogue, and graphics were beautiful. If they ever do put this game on the Switch, I'd play it. As of now, I'll play it on the Wii U with the help of another person.

Best game on Wii U. I think being an avid high score chaser made it easier for me to understand this gameplay. This is light years ahead of what was accomplished on the N64. I wouldn’t say mandatory motion controls werent a mistake. But it was a mistake to make a game where you make the game smarter than the person. You need to fool the person into feeling smart. I think Star Fox has done a poor job teaching people the mechanics over the years. A lot of people like Star Fox 64 but most people are terrible at that game too. Just watch a random let’s play of 64. The massive amount of terrible Star fox players comes from the hang over of being a child in the 90’s and not really having a grip with the gameplay. I was also one of those people. Over the years I figured out the deep mechanics and it made me appreciate these games. Especially zero. There’s so many secrets the average person didn’t find. The missing ingredient is skill. So much content hidden behind skill. Whatever Nintendo does in the future, they need to slow down and teach people how the gameplay loops in a Star Fox game. Massive communication error on their hands right now.

Mc Ren the control setup is frustrating to get used to and there are no options to turn off motion controls. It’s not that bad, but it is a frustrating learning curve and the game plays “slower” as a result. Also the story is a retread which maybe bothered people. IDK, I love it despite all that.

I agree it does but they “forced the weird motion” control as a core gameplay mechanic with no option to turn it off. I was hoping to relive my N64 nostalgia completely with this title but at the time upon release the controls put a sour taste in my mouth.

I believe its just because of the mechanics and it’s difficult to watch the pad and tv at the same time. It pains me i only beat andross once and i stopped cuz of how frustrating it is the constantly move the pad around and switch view angle, ill always have a soft spot for star fox

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. This would have been infinitely better if the motion controls weren’t shoehorned in and you could turn them off like in splatoon. That’s the only thing holding this game back from being good.

I'm baffled by how Nintendo treated this franchise...they just kept remaking the same game and plot over and over; space is vast with billions of planets! Starfox Assault gave us a fresh plot at least even if the game was a little short. I preferred the voice acting in Assault too which seemed more cinematic as well.

Andross battle looked tougher in this one, I loved more James role and the fact andross talked during the battle. Ending though I gave to the n64. N64 had u literally fighting his brain like good lord.

Kai, I tell ya I was thanking God yesterday that I had a Wii U. If I hadn't watched The Completionist's Star Fox Zero episode on Thursday, I would have never known how great a game this is. And I wouldn't be playing it right now. I found a copy at Walmart for $15 yesterday :D

From what I can tell this is basically a remake of 64. Like not perfectly, with slightly different levels in the most part, but extremely close. They added Walker phases to the levels and Andross was a bit different, but identical story.
