OK just a tip from someone that made prob over a 100 3d printed helmets..one dont use xtc,,,also if gooed up as you say them your mix wasnt right or you lay on to heavy or was to cold to set proper (need at room temp or warming room). Here's my finish (paint not included) in less the 2 day program. One get your self 2 part bar top expoxy (amazon your friend)same thing as xtc but better cheaper and you get way more. make sure you mix to directions and only use small amount as you put on 3 thin coats with a min of 8hours in between coats. slap some filler primer on...wet sand a little (as you shouldnt need to sand that much) slap some filler primer on again to make sure all smooth and your done your prep. When I see guys sanding props for days or even weeks it kills me! Maybe I should do a video as I feel when I see all these lets finish a 3d prop and a hour of the video sanding it just wrong...WRONG I SAY! lol Great video though for sure. Would of like to seen it without a kit you had to buy..but hey Im cheap! lol

If you ever do another build where you need small, circular screens, they sell packs of them at smoke shops. I don't know if they have different size specifications, like say "number 5 screens", "small screens", "half inch screens", or whatever, but they do come in different sizes. I went in with a friend a couple of times when she bought them, but it was years ago, so I don't remember exactly what she asked for, but if you ask for "screens" that will at least get you started, and you can discuss sizes from there. Or probably Google "pipe screens". They're stamp cut out as pretty much perfect circles, so it'd save you some fiddling around.

Excellent work Kevin, you have a really good eye for detail and it completely paid off. It sounds like most of the time was on taping and spray painting; would it be more economical to paint the mask with a brush? Also at 14:40 maybe printing a tiny filler piece to fit in that gap would have saved a lot of work trying to glue epoxy it. But the basketball idea to get the mask to fit was brilliant. Where there's a will there's a way.

Also I know it may seem simple to you but can you show how you put the elastics on the inside as i think thats a great alternative to magnets and shitload easier! lol thanks!
@3DPrintedProps
@3DPrintedProps 6 жыл бұрын
I'll see if I have some video. But what I did was tape the helmet together with blue tape, cut the elastic to there was enough to give some stretch, then super glue it to the helmet. I used little clamps to hold the elastic down to dry. That was it. I was going to do magnets but then I was like, I need this to have a little give, and elastic popped into my head. :)

This video convinced me to get this file to work on, nice work! I am trying to figure out how to slice the pipes off for separate printing, did you do plane cutting or is there an easier way to split the file? I am using meshmixer at the moment and am afraid I'll make it asymmetrical if i try to eyeball it. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the good work!
@3DPrintedProps
@3DPrintedProps 5 жыл бұрын
I don't believe I had to cut them off. I think I just chose separate model and it separated pretty much everything, and I picked what I wanted to export as stls.
@keanbobeanbo1486
@keanbobeanbo1486 5 жыл бұрын
That's what I was afraid of. The model they sent me is a completely fused piece, and separate shells won't work on it. I'll send them an email and see if they can send me the un-fused version. Thanks!

Well I bought those lenses. I found them on RPF. But all you would need is to cut and sandwich some plexi with LED in-between.

3D Printed Props Is it true that you save a lot of money with 3d printed props? How much did you have to spend in total?
@3DPrintedProps
@3DPrintedProps 6 жыл бұрын
Good question. A roll of filament coats about 13-20 bucks. I get hatchbox so it runs 20. That helmet took pretty much a whole roll I think. So I'm in 20 for the helmet. But yeah, it took weeks to finish here and there when I could. And u need other things like sanding paper, Bondo, paints, etc. But if I had to put a tag on it, just materials is say 20 for filament, 15 paint but I have plenty left, eyes were 15 think. So 50 bucks. Not bad. And I learned a lot and of course i.love making stuff.
